Acta Veterinaria , 2007, DOI: 10.2298/avb0703157m
Abstract: The frequency and characteristics of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) based on morphological and cytological changes in equine lungs were studied in this paper. Lungs obtained from 51 horses of different age and sex were examined grossly and tissue samples were collected for pathohistological examination. Cytological examination was done on impression smears from the tracheal bifurcation. Pathohistological preparations were stained with hematoxylin eosin (HE), toluidine blue (TB), Giemsa staining, PAS staining and Pearls reaction for iron detection. The peroxidase anti-peroxidase technique was used to demonstrate CD3+ (T lymphocytes) and CD79+ (B lymphocytes). Tracheal bifurcation cytology impression smears were stained with hematoxylin eosin (HE), Giemsa staining and PAS staining. Pulmonary emphysema and lack of pulmonary collapse were the most common gross lesions whereas alveolar emphysema was described in 70.59% of all examined horses, more frequently in the distensive form (54.90%) and less frequently in the destructive form (15.69%). Pathohistological chronic bronchitis/bronchiolitis, with characteristic changes in the lumen, mucosa, submucosa and smooth muscle layer was described in all examined horses. Increased immunoreactivity was described in the lungs. The most common lesions seen on cytology impression smears from the tracheal bifurcation were thick, viscous, PAS positive mucus which forms Curschmann's spirals. The dominant cell population consisted of desquamated airway epithelial cells, as well as eosinophils, neutrophils, mast cells, erythrocytes and alveolar macrophages. Primary pulmonary pathogens as well as potential contaminants and secundary infection agens were isolated bacteriologically from lung samples. All the above-mentioned findings correlate pointing to the fact that chronic bronchitis/bronchiolitis represents the basic substrate of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) which has a combined inflammatory and immunological etiology. Emphysema being secondary to airway obstruction.
Thyroid Hormones in Rats with Hyperluteinized Ovaries

Journal of Medical Sciences , 2001,
Abstract: The findings of research work showed that animals with hyperluteinized ovaries (HL) obtained after mechanical lesions in the posterior hypothalamus, the circulatory patterns of pituitary and ovarian steroid hormones were disturbed. In these animals the pre-ovulatory surge of luteinizing hormone (LH) was lower and prolactin (Prl) was higher, while in early proestrus estradiol was higher, and progesterone in late proestrus was lower when compared to the intact controls. It is recognized that there is a close relationship between ovarian function and thyroid hormones, measured the serum content of total tri-iodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) in animals with hyperluteinized ovaries obtained after mechanical lesions in the posterior hypothalamus. There were no a significant differences in the circulatory concentrations of these hormones between rats with HL and intact controls. Histological analysis also showed that there were no significant differences in structure of thyroids between the two groups of animals, although the weights of the thyroid glands in the lesioned animals were significantly heavier than in intact controls. These results showed that lesions in the posterior hypothalamus, which result in a disturbance of the hypothalamo-pituitary-ovarian axis inducing HL, did not bring about changes in the hypothalamo-pituitary-thyroid axis.

Yugoslav Journal of Operations Research , 2007, DOI: 10.2298/yjor0701107c
Abstract: The application of flow networks on the example of the types of works distribution as well as the distribution of construction workers qualification structure according to particular types of buildings is presented in the paper. The flow networks considered were proposed by Zdzislaw Pawlak and are the tools for the new mathematical models related to the information regarding flow explorations in decision algorithms. The decision algorithms consist of series of decision rules for each particular case of various types of construction objects interdependence, as well as of various kinds of workers and their qualification structure. It is all generated in the paper. .
Histologic variant form of autoimmune hepatitis with prominent zonal necrosis

Srpski Arhiv za Celokupno Lekarstvo , 2002, DOI: 10.2298/sarh0204103s
Abstract: Autoimmune hepatitis type 1 in a 8-year old girl is described. The diagnosis was established using International Autoimmune hepatitis group scoring system. In addition to characteristic histologic features of autoimmune hepatitis (periportal hepatitis, piecemeal necrosis and rozettes) prominent centrilobular necrosis was discovered. As an isolate finding in autoimmune hepatitis, this type was described only in five cases. In our unique case centrilobular necrosis is a very important parallel finding previously not detected in autoimmune hepatitis. Some experimental studies suggest that cytokines present in inflammatory cell infiltrate in the liver play a pathologic role in autoimmune liver cell damage.
Hybrid Fuzzy Controller Based Frequency Regulation in Restructured Power System  [PDF]

Circuits and Systems (CS) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/cs.2016.76065
Abstract: This paper discusses the implementation of Load Frequency Control (LFC) in restructured power system using Hybrid Fuzzy controller. The formulation of LFC in open energy market is much more challenging; hence it needs an intelligent controller to adapt the changes imposed by the dynamics of restructured bilateral contracts. Fuzzy Logic Control deals well with uncertainty and indistinctness while Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is a well-known optimization tool. Abovementioned techniques are combined and called as Hybrid Fuzzy to improve the dynamic performance of the system. Frequency control of restructured system has been achieved by automatic Membership Function (MF) tuned fuzzy logic controller. The parameters defining membership function has been tuned and updated from time to time using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The robustness of the proposed hybrid fuzzy controller has been compared with conventional fuzzy logic controller using performance measures like overshoot and settling time following a step load perturbation. The motivation for using membership function tuning using PSO is to show the behavior of the controller for a wide range of system parameters and load changes. Error based analysis with parametric uncertainties and load changes is tested on a two-area restructured power system.

Circuits and Systems (CS) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/cs.2016.76086
Abstract: Performance index based analysis is made to examine and highlight the effective application of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to optimize the Proportional Integral gains for Load Frequency Control (LFC) in a restructured power system that operates under Bilateral based policy scheme. Various Integral Performance Criteria measures are taken as fitness function in PSO and are compared using overshoot, settling time and frequency and tie-line power deviation following a step load perturbation (SLP). The motivation for using different fitness technique in PSO is to show the behavior of the controller for a wide range of system parameters and load changes. Error based analysis with parametric uncertainties and load changes are tested on a two-area restructured power system. The results of the proposed PSO based controller show the better performance compared to the classical Ziegler-Nichols (Z-N) tuned PI andFuzzy Rule based PI controller.
Projection of the Semi-Axes of the Ellipse of Intersection  [PDF]
P. P. Klein
Applied Mathematics (AM) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/am.2017.89097
It is well known that the line of intersection of an ellipsoid and a plane is an ellipse (see for instance [1]). In this note the semi-axes of the ellipse of intersection will be projected from 3d space onto a 2d plane. It is shown that the projected semi-axes agree with results of a method used by Bektas [2] and also with results obtained by Schrantz [3].

Journal of Geographic Information System (JGIS) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/jgis.2010.24026
Abstract: A study of the spatial and temporal changes in land use and land cover (LULC) was conducted using Remote Sensing and GIS. We analyzed the LULC of Bharathapuzha river basin, south India using multispectral LANDSAT imageries of 1973-2005 time periods. 31% depletion in the natural vegetation cover and 8.7% depletion in wetland agriculture area were seen in the basin during the period. On the other hand the urban spread in the basin increased by 32%. The study highlights the need for a scientific management plan for the sustainability of the river basin, keeping in view the recent climatic anomalies and hydrological conditions of the basin.

Open Journal of Modern Hydrology (OJMH) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ojmh.2012.24011
Abstract: Baseline morphometric information at a sub basin level is essential to develop appropriate strategy for sustainable, socially acceptable, ecologically benign and economically viable development of a river basin. The present study was carried out in one of the less studied Bharathapuzha river basin (BRB), the second longest river in the state of Kerala, India. The annual discharge of the river is 3.94 km3. Nevertheless the basin, which receives about 1828 mm of annual rainfall, in recent years has been facing dearth of water. We used GIS and RS tools to study the morphometric characteristics of the basin. The seventh order main river is formed by several lower order streams forming a dentritic flow pattern. Basin geology, slope and rainfall pattern in the basin determine the morphometric characteristics of the basin. The linear aspects of the basin including stream length ratio and bifurcation ratio indicate the role of relief in the basin while the areal ratios indicate the elongate nature of the basin.
