Abstract: during the development of the third mexican provincial council (1585), the bishop of nueva galicia submit for consideration of the consultants, theologians and canon lawyers, the case of a cleric who he doubts if incurred in excommunication, after having appealed and disobeyed an episcopal precept. therefore, we analyzed the application of the rules then in force, applied by the consultants from the facts, theology and law, in the ambit of sixteenth century new spain and the implementation of the council of trent.

Abstract: Durante el desarrollo del Tercer Concilio Provincial Mexicano (1585), el Obispo de Nueva Galicia somete a consideración de los consultores teólogos y canonistas el caso de un clérigo en que se duda si incurrió en excomunión, luego de haber apelado y desobedecido un precepto episcopal. Por lo tanto, analizamos la aplicación de la normativa entonces vigente, usada por los consultores a través de los hechos, la teología y el derecho, en el ámbito de la Nueva Espa a del siglo XVI y la implementación del Concilio de Trento. Abstract: The paper tackles the problem of reading singularities of the geomagnetic field in noisy underwater (UW) environments. In particular, we propose a novel metrological approach to measuring low-amplitude geomagnetic signals in hard noisy magnetic environments. This research action was launched to develop a detection system for enforcing the peripheral security of military bases (harbors/coasts and landbases) and for asymmetric warfare. The concept underlying this theory is the spatial stability in the temporal variations of the geomagnetic field in the observation area. The paper presents the development and deployment of a self-informed measurement system, in which the signal acquired from each sensor—observation node—is compared with the signal acquired by the adjacent ones. The effectiveness of this procedure relates to the inter-node (sensor-to-sensor) distance, L; this quantity should, on one hand, correlate the noise and, on the other hand, decorrelate the target signal. The paper presents the results obtained, that demonstrate the ability of self-informed systems to read weak magnetic signals even in the presence of very high noise in low-density ionic solutions (i.e. sea water).

Abstract: aim. to validate an instrument to assess research critical appraisal skills in residents in a university hospital by the extreme groups method. subjects and methods. 272 residents completed the questionnaire. the mean of correct answers was 45%. results. no significant differences between gender, specialty or post-graduate year were found. reliability (alpha = 0.83) was acceptable and difference between extreme groups was significant (0.45 vs. 0.91). conclusions. residents showed poor skills to interpret typical results of clinical studies, finding consistent with other countries.

Abstract: ASTRI is a Flagship Project of the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research, led by the Italian National Institute of Astrophysics, INAF. One of the main aims of the ASTRI Project is the design, construction and verification on-field of a dual mirror (2M) end-to-end prototype for the Small Size Telescope (SST) envisaged to become part of the Cherenkov Telescope Array. The ASTRI SST-2M prototype adopts the Schwarzschild-Couder design, and a camera based on SiPM (Silicon Photo Multiplier); it will be assembled at the INAF astronomical site of Serra La Nave on mount Etna (Catania, Italy) within mid 2014, and will start scientific validation phase soon after. The peculiarities of the optical design and of the SiPM bandpass pushed towards specifically optimized choices in terms of reflective coatings for both the primary and the secondary mirror. In particular, multi-layer dielectric coatings, capable of filtering out the large Night Sky Background contamination at wavelengths $\lambda \gtrsim 700$ nm have been developed and tested, as a solution for the primary mirrors. Due to the conformation of the ASTRI SST-2M camera, a reimaging system based on thin pyramidal light guides could be optionally integrated aiming to increase the fill factor. An anti-reflective coating optimized for a wide range of incident angles faraway from normality was specifically developed to enhance the UV-optical transparency of these elements. The issues, strategy, simulations and experimental results are thoroughly presented.
Divergencias en la estimación de receptividad ganadera en el noroeste de la Patagonia: diferencias conceptuales y consecuencias prácticas

Abstract: an effective estimate of the carrying capacity of different vegetation types would contribute to reduce some grazing-induced desertification processes in patagonia. at present there are several methods in use. however, none can be considered "a priori" as the reference-method. in this study, we compared the estimates obtained by two commonly used in northwestern patagonia, aboveground net primary productivity method (mppna) and pastoral value method (mvp). using both methods, we calculated the carrying capacity for 119 sites encompassing a wide range of anpp (130 to 2100 kg dm.ha-1.y-1). estimates obtained using mppna were generally higher than those obtained using mvp, and the difference widened as anpp increased. we used path analysis to identify the determinants of both estimates and their difference. mppna values depend mainly on anpp, as the other component of the metric (harvest index) is also calculated as a function of anpp. on the other hand, mvp values are more strongly dependent on the value of forage consumed prior to measurement than on the pastoral value of the stand at that time (vpstand), as the latter is used to estimate the amount of forage available at the time of measurement. vpstand, in turn, depends more on forage cover than on the vp of the vegetation (vpveg). as expected, the difference between the two carrying capacity estimates widened as anpp increased and as forage consumed prior to measurement decreased. the difference between estimates also broadened as vpstand increased, reflecting an indirect effect of anpp as sites of high vpstand had also high anpp and forage cover. the analysis suggests that mppna and mvp provide the upper and lower limits, respectively, to carrying capacity estimates. these estimates could be improved by developing more reliable models for the estimation of harvest index and forage available at the time of measurement, reducing the sensitivity to anpp of the first variable and increasing the sensitivity to anpp of
The Precise Determination of Mass through the Oscillations of a Very High-Q Electromechanical System  [PDF]

Abstract:

The present paper is based upon the fact that if an object is part of a highly stable oscillating system, it is possible to obtain an extremely precise measure for its mass in terms of the energy trapped in the system, rather than through a ratio between force and acceleration, provided such trapped energy can be properly measured. The subject is timely since there is great interest in Metrology on the establishment of a new electronic standard for the kilogram. Our contribution to such effort includes both the proposal of an alternative definition for mass, as well as the description of a realistic experimental system in which this new definition might actually be applied. The setup consists of an oscillating type-II superconducting loop subjected to the gravity and magnetic fields. The system is shown to be able to reach a dynamic equilibrium by trapping energy up to the point it levitates against the surrounding magnetic and gravitational fields, behaving as an extremely high-Q spring-load system. The proposed energy-mass equation applied to the electromechanical oscillating system eventually produces a new experimental relation between mass and the Planck constant.
