Carotid body tumors, paragangliomas or chemodectomas are uncommon neoplasms originating from paraganglion tissues, generally are benign, of slow growth and painless course, have a great vascular component in its structure. They may to show an aggressive locoregional behavior despite histologically haven't malignancy signs. Frequently are present in patients inhabit in high altitude regions. May to be sporadic or familial and occasionally are associated with paragangliomas in other sites. Present case was treated in our service, which demonstrates its local aggressive behavior.

A literature review was made about rehabilitation techniques in general and of vascular diseases in special, Rehabilitation in patients presenting with edema of a high limb after mastectomy from breast cancer, helps in improvement of its quality of life. Here are the physiopathologic bases for rehabilitation, exercises program, and the use of a compressive glove for high limbs. Our interest is to give advice to primary care physicians to increase knowledges and seek solutions for handicapped patients with vascular conditions. We propose activities and orientations for Family Physician and the rehabilitation methodology for patients with postmastectomy lymphedema.

A literature review was made on general rehabilitation techniques and particularly on patients suffering from vascular diseases. Our main intereset was aimed at physicians working at primary health care so that they can expand their knowledge on this topic and contribute to give solutions to the problems of vascular disabled patients. This paper makes known the activities and orientations for the family physicians and the rehabilitative methodology for each group of patients.

Agronomía Tropical , 2004,
Abstract: in venezuela, the red rice weed complex is composed of three of the gender oryza, oryza sativa l. (60%), o. rufipogon griff (39%) and o. latifolia desv. (1%). the objetive of this research was to compare 15 red rice populations using electrophoretic techniques in starch and polyacrylamide gel. crude extracts of seed plumules, aged 14 days after sowing, obtained from seedcollected in rice farms of portuguesa, calabozo, cojedes and barinas, were used to evaluate 5 isoenzymatic system (idh, pgd, pgi, k and 2 est). five repetitions of each isoenzyme were made. data were submitted to a multivariate analysis of hierarchical tree using euclidian distance with a criterion of aggregation upgma in the program cirad, which generated a dendograma. results showed that the specie o. latifolia was different from the others populations and/or species in this study, for all the isoenzymatic system, whereas species o. sativa and o. rufipogon, showed a high phylogenic affinity, with similar band patterns for certain populations.
Disempowering Empowerment?
Eliseo Cubol
Kasarinlan : Philippine Journal of Third World Studies , 1993,
Abstract: This article provides a critical analysis of the important developments and problematic issues concerning the election of sectoral representatives in local legislative bodies or sanggunians and their implications to the Local Government Code’s vision of empowering the powerless. It discusses pending legislation in the House of Representatives and resolutions passed by local leagues that unconstitutionally deter genuine people’s participation in local governance, as they are veiled attempts to further the dominance of those in power while continuing to disenfranchise the powerless. The country’s elected leaders need to look beyond their hold on power and money; local legislators and politicians must look beyond the financial considerations of sectoral representation, as the dividends of empowerment would eventually create self-reliant communities. This would allow local leaders and their constituents to build a strong partnership and harness capabilities to extract resources for local development.

Abstract: serotonin syndrome is a clinical situation characterized by altered state of mind, autonomic instability and neuromuscular anomalies such as tremor, hyperreflexia or myoclonia, which are symptoms that may occur as a result of the use of drugs that increase serotonin levels when acting as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or their association with other drugs as monoaminoxidase inhibitors. this paper presented the case of a 78 years-old female patient suffering from terminal chronic renal failure caused by hypertension, low therapy of periodic hemodyalisis which gave rise to serotonin syndrome secondary to the daily use of 20 mg paroxetine prescribed for a depression condition. infectious, metabolic, neurological diseases as well as some drug overdose were ruled out. the patient improved her condition after paroxetine treatment was suspended.
