Via Spiritus : Revista de História da Espiritualidade e do Sentimento Religioso , 2010,
Abstract: This text deals with some main features that marked the everyday of the community living in the Jesuit College of Bragan a. The foundation of this college occurred in the period of the biggest increase of the Society of Jesus in Portugal. However, its beginnings were particularly difficult (climatic and food difficulties, the undesirability of the Jesuits to live in peripheral areas) so much that the possibility to close the institution was considered. The fulfillment of religious activities was naturally a main aspect of the everyday of these religious. However, all members of the community were compelled to accomplish manual tasks. The timetables were the same as the timetables of the rest of the assistancy. The food was varied and the dressing habits respected the local specific characteristics. The concern with health was another fundamental element that marked the everyday of this community. To conclude, this community was affected by two main noxious habits: food abuses and disciplinary problems.
Helena Osswald
CEM : Cultura, Espa?o & Memória , 2012,
Abstract: One of the fields in which the closest interpersonal relationships could be define along the earlymodern age, in Portugal, is that of kinship systems. Two interpretations of the kinship system were used and one was, from the standpoint of the church, binding. This led to the establishment of certain behaviors and of an activity of identifying and storing of personal and family data. The system and its implementation led to the production of bans and limitations of choices in the lives of many people with regard to moments such as marriage, christenings, etc. From the systematic study of cases in which exceptional circumstances were invoked it will be possible to try to assess the real importance of the system efficiency.
Controling the number of focal elements
Christophe Osswald
Computer Science , 2013, DOI: 10.1007/978-3-642-29461-7
Abstract: A basic belief assignment can have up to 2^n focal elements, and combining them with a simple conjunctive operator will need O(2^2n) operations. This article proposes some techniques to limit the size of the focal sets of the bbas to be combined while preserving a large part of the information they carry. The first section revisits some well-known definitions with an algorithmic point of vue. The second section proposes a matrix way of building the least committed isopignistic, and extends it to some other bodies of evidence. The third section adapts the k-means algorithm for an unsupervized clustering of the focal elements of a given bba.
APODICTICIDAD Y AUTOMANIFESTACIóN
Osswald,Andrés M;
Revista de filosofía , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-43602011000100014
Abstract: the current paper seeks to expound the principal aspects of the husserlian theory of apodicticity, to present its dificulties and to offer a posible solution to its mains problems. in conection to the latter the directive idea that leads the followings considerations is that we must understand the apodicticity of the "i" in terms of the temporal synthesis, in particular, in the characteristics features of the living present.

A new generalization of the proportional conflict redistribution rule stable in terms of decision
Arnaud Martin,Christophe Osswald
Computer Science , 2008,
Abstract: In this chapter, we present and discuss a new generalized proportional conflict redistribution rule. The Dezert-Smarandache extension of the Demster-Shafer theory has relaunched the studies on the combination rules especially for the management of the conflict. Many combination rules have been proposed in the last few years. We study here different combination rules and compare them in terms of decision on didactic example and on generated data. Indeed, in real applications, we need a reliable decision and it is the final results that matter. This chapter shows that a fine proportional conflict redistribution rule must be preferred for the combination in the belief function theory.
Human expert fusion for image classification
Arnaud Martin,Christophe Osswald
Computer Science , 2008,
Abstract: In image classification, merging the opinion of several human experts is very important for different tasks such as the evaluation or the training. Indeed, the ground truth is rarely known before the scene imaging. We propose here different models in order to fuse the informations given by two or more experts. The considered unit for the classification, a small tile of the image, can contain one or more kind of the considered classes given by the experts. A second problem that we have to take into account, is the amount of certainty of the expert has for each pixel of the tile. In order to solve these problems we define five models in the context of the Dempster-Shafer Theory and in the context of the Dezert-Smarandache Theory and we study the possible decisions with these models.
Generalized proportional conflict redistribution rule applied to Sonar imagery and Radar targets classification
Arnaud Martin,Christophe Osswald
Computer Science , 2008,
Abstract: In this chapter, we present two applications in information fusion in order to evaluate the generalized proportional conflict redistribution rule presented in the chapter \cite{Martin06a}. Most of the time the combination rules are evaluated only on simple examples. We study here different combination rules and compare them in terms of decision on real data. Indeed, in real applications, we need a reliable decision and it is the final results that matter. Two applications are presented here: a fusion of human experts opinions on the kind of underwater sediments depict on sonar image and a classifier fusion for radar targets recognition.
