Abstract: critical incidents are events that are present in every organization. the analysis of these incidents was converted into a methodology that identifies and reflects on the most common disturbances present in classrooms. this article describes the usefulness of the critical incidents analysis technique (ciat) as a tool to improve the coexistence in classroom. it is also a learning tool about situations of conflict for practicing teachers and teachers in training. at the same time it serves to enhance the instructional leadership in the classroom, allowing the visibility of problems faced by teachers.

Abstract: land use changes have transformed much of the earth's surface in the last 300 years. deforestation, intensification of agriculture, and urban sprawl have radically changed the preindustrial landscape. in south-central chile, landscape change was initially related to the expansión of farming to address national needs and the growing international demand for agricultural products. subsequently, prívate forestry, subsidized by the state, promoted the accelerated expansión of industrial plantations, a process that largely determines the current landscape configuration. in this study, we document the spatial dynamics of land-use change in 2.3 million hectares of the biobío and araucanian regions during the last two decades of the 20th century. two land cover maps were developed from satellite imagery comparing a 20-year period (1979 and 2000). results confirm that major changes in the landscape were due to exotic tree plantations for forestry purposes, agricultural activities, and urban and industrial sprawl. accordingly, we conclude that substantial loss of native forest cover was driven by the expansión of commercial plantations towards mid-elevations in the andes and coastal ranges.

Abstract:
Representations of Muslim Bodies in The Kingdom: Deconstructing Discourses in Hollywood
Michelle Aguayo
Global Media Journal : Canadian Edition , 2009,
Abstract: In this post September 11 (9/11) climate of the “War on Terror”, Hollywood political-thriller films carry a new cultural currency. Drawing from literature in postcolonial studies and its engagement with representations in popular culture, this paper analyzes the film The Kingdom (2007)—a fictional political-thriller with a storyline inspired by real terrorist bombings in Saudi Arabia. This paper critiques and notes the film’s narrative practices, with particular attention paid to the racial and gendered discourses produced in it. In examining the representational codes and politics in the film’s construction of Muslim bodies post-9/11, it is argued here that a critical engagement with Hollywood cinema is necessary in order to reveal the complex ways in which Muslim bodies are scripted as dangerous, pre-modern and uncivilized in American popular culture. This analysis will expose how representations of Muslims in Hollywood not only are essentialized, but act simultaneously to discipline these bodies, which is grounded in the trope of the “War on Terror”, intimately linking it to the project of empire. A commitment to deconstructing Muslim bodies in Hollywood will illustrate the embeddedness of racialized and gendered imaginings of “Others” as they unfold not only “on-screen”, but also their relationship to violent colonial projects “off-screen”.

Abstract: people who work at palliative care face many ethical dilemmas. often they are related with the duty to tell the truth to the patient and to respect his autonomy, in opposition to the duty of caring and not harming. the autonomy principle is based upon respect for the patient?s values, beliefs and capacity of making decisions as the principal moral consideration and, therefore, it requires communication of the truth. beneficence, when looking for the patient?s sake and for his benefit, can suppose that truth may cause damage.

Abstract: diseases of genetic origin presently cause around 34% of the deaths of minors under a year old. the knowledge obtained since the human genome project begun has provided tools for prevention and cure. among them genetic counseling is included, which must provide the basis for an informed decision over child gestation. these new technologies imply more and more usual and complex ethical issues. what to do with the information obtained? may it be used to cure genetic diseases? how to promote and assure this information’s ethical practice? the basis for genetic counseling and its ethical implications are presented here under a personalized perspective
