Abstract: the mite oxycenus maxwelli (keifer) (eriophyidae) is reported for the first time in brazil infesting olive trees, olea europaea. specimens were found on seedlings at maria da fé, state of minas gerais, in 2007. although minor symptoms were not noticed, significant damage to plants were observed. there is no reliable evidence of when the mite could have been introduced. it is believed that the mite occurs since the first introductions of olive trees, around 1820, through vegetative propagating material, but the mite remained unnoticed due to the lack of studies with olive trees in brazil.

Today, HIV infection is considered to be a risk factor for bone mineralization disorders. The test most recommended for diagnosing osteoporosis is measurement of bone mineral density by means of dual energy X-ray absorptiometry at two sites. Osteoporosis treatment has the aims of bone mass improvement and fracture control. A combination of calcium and vitamin D supplementation may reduce the risk of fractures. Antiresorptive drugs act by blocking osteoclastic activity and reducing bone remodeling. On the other hand, bone-forming drugs stimulate osteoblastogenesis, thereby stimulating the formation of bone matrix. Mixed-action medications are those that are capable of both stimulating bone formation and inhibiting reabsorption. Antiresorptive drugs form the group of medications with the greatest quantity of scientific evidence confirming their efficacy in osteoporosis treatment. Physical activity is a health promotion strategy for the general population, but only preliminary data on its real value and benefit among PLWHIV are available, especially in relation to osteoporosis.Keywords: osteoporosis, HIV/AIDS, diagnosis, treatment, exercise

Interaction between antibiotic consumption and resistance development is of particular interest regarding Gram-negative bacilli, whose growing resistance has represented a great challenge.Objective: Assess the impact of restriction of cefepime use on antimicrobial susceptibility among the Gram-negative bacilli (GNB) most frequently involved in healthcare-associated infections (HAI).Methods: Data relating to hospital occupancy and mortality rates, incidence of HAI, incidence of GNB as causative agents of HAI, antimicrobial consumption at the hospital and antimicrobial susceptibility of GNB related to HAI were compared between two periods: a 24-month period preceding restriction of cefepime use and a 24-month period subsequent to this restriction.Results: There was a significant drop in cefepime consumption after its restriction. Susceptibility of Acinetobacter baumanii improved relating to gentamicin, but it worsened in relation to imipenem, subsequent to this restriction. For Pseudomonas aeruginosa, there was no change in antimicrobial susceptibility. For Klebsiella pneumoniae and Enterobacter spp, there were improvements in susceptibility relating to ciprofloxacin.Conclusion: Restriction of cefepime use had a positive impact on K. pneumoniae and Enterobacter spp, given that after this restriction, their susceptibilities to ciprofloxacin improved. However, for A. baumanii, the impact was negative, given the worsening of susceptibility to imipenem.Keywords: ecological studies, cross infection, drug resistance, microbial, Gram-negative bacilli, cefepime

Abstract: A great number of semi-analytical models, notably the representation of electromagnetic fields by integral equations are based on the second order vector potential (SOVP) formalism which introduces two scalar potentials in order to obtain analytical expressions of the electromagnetic fields from the two potentials. However, the scalar decomposition is often known for canonical coordinate systems. This paper aims in introducing a specific SOVP formulation dedicated to arbitrary non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinates systems. The electromagnetic field representation which is derived in this paper constitutes the key stone for the development of semi-analytical models for solving some eddy currents moelling problems and electromagnetic radiation problems considering at least two homogeneous media separated by a rough interface. This SOVP formulation is derived from the tensor formalism and Maxwell’s equations written in a non-orthogonal coordinates system adapted to a surface characterized by a 2D arbitrary aperiodic profile.

Abstract: the present research sought to understand the affective relations among institutionalized children who wait for adoption. four children (two girls and two boys) aged from six to nine years old participated in the study. their life histories were examined in the documents of the institution and the children were interviewed individually. they were observed at play, in routine activities and in drawing sessions which revealed their feelings and behavioral orientations in terms of their affective attitudes and the significance of these attitudes. it was found that their perceptions with reference to the institution were not as problematic as might be supposed at first. between the children and their caretakers a certain level of affectivity was observed. following a qualitative analysis of the data it could be perceived that the children were positively linked to the institution. they did, however, manifest the desire for a home. other categories of behavior used to identify feelings of affection included their play activities, friendships and the distinctions they made between good and evil. it can be said that the children observed, in spite of having established affective relations within the institution, still remained captivated by their own imaginations, longed for families and hoped for their inclusion in family situations. it was concluded that the themes of the study are related to the possibility of the child to establish relations with others in informal and symbolic manners.

Abstract: a methanolic extract from neem seed kernels, obtained using the soxhlet apparatus was used to study the mortality of eggs and larvae of tuta absoluta (lepidoptera: gelechiidae) and to evaluate of the ovicidal effect. eggs 24 hours after oviposition were counted and sprayed with the extract at the concentrations of 1000, 500, 250, 125 and 62.5 mg l-1. controls were sprayed with water and methanol. the experiment was conducted in laboratory conditions at 25±2°c; ur 50±10% and 12 h of photophase. incubation period for all treatments, including controls, was four days on the average. the extract did not affect the viability of eggs, although the values varied between of 51.7% the 80.6%. larvae recently hatched from eggs were placed in glass tubes containing a tomato leaflet previously immersed for five seconds into the extract, at concentrations of 2000, 4000, 6000 and 8000 mg l-1 and conditioned on bod at 27±1°c; 65±10% rh and 12 hours of light. by the fourth day after treatment the extract caused mortalities of 82, 68, 94.7 and 100%, respectively. by the sixth day, all concentrations caused 100% mortality of the larvae. the controls with water and methanol presented mortalities of 4 and 8%, respectively.
