Association of parents' nutritional status, and sociodemographic and dietary factors with overweight/obesity in schoolchildren 7 to 14 years old
Bernardo, Carla de Oliveira;Vasconcelos, Francisco de Assis Guedes de;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2012000200008
Abstract: to assess the association of parents' nutritional status, and dietary and sociodemographic factors with overweight/obesity in schoolchildren in florianópolis island, santa catarina state, brazil, this cross-sectional epidemiological study examined 2,826 schoolchildren 7 to 14 years old, classified according to body mass index curves for age and sex recommended by the international obesity task force. data were analyzed using poisson regression. the final model showed overweight/obesity in boys associated directly with father's educational level, mother's age, and parents' nutritional status, and inversely with mother's educational level, and number of daily meals. among girls, it associated directly with parents' nutritional status and the schoolchildren's age, and inversely with consumption of risk foods. the variables that associated with overweight/obesity differed between the sexes, except parents' nutritional status. boys and girls with both parents overweight or obese were, respectively, 80% and 150% more likely to exhibit the same diagnosis, indicating the need for interventions that include the family environment.

Oliveira, Francisco Assis de;Campos, Tarcísio Gomes da Silva;Oliveira, Bernardete Campos;
Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X1999001000018
Abstract: a field experiment was conducted during two years, 1990/91, in an alluvial soil, in the state of paraíba, brazil, to study the effect of the levels of soil-water tension, 50, 100, 200, 300, 400 and 600 kpa, at 20 cm depth, on upland cotton (gossypium hirsutum l.r. latifolium hutch, cv. cnpa-6h) yield. the experimental design was a complete randomized block with six treatments and four repetitions. there was an effect of the treatments on plant height, leaf area index and cotton yield, but the precocity index was not modified. water should be applied when the soil-water tension, measured at 20 cm depth, reaches values around 200 kpa. there was a quadratic (r2 = 0.893**) response of cotton yields to soil water tension, with the maximum when water was applied at 52% of soil water depletion.

Oliveira, Francisco Assis de;Bezerra, José Renato Cortez;Oliveira, Bernardete Campos;
Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X1999001200003
Abstract: in an alluvial soil, silt loam, of a?u valley, in the state of rio grande do norte, brazil, a research was carried out to study the effect of time of the last irrigation and plant population on yield and plant height of the herbaceous cotton (gossypium hirsutum l.r. latifolium hutch) cultivar acala del cerro. treatments consisted of times of the last irrigation at 65, 80, 95 and 110 days after emergence and populations with 30,000, 60,000, 90,000 and 120,000 plants/ha. the experimental plan was a randomized complete blocks in a split-plot design, with four replications. delaying time of last irrigation increased height and plant populations. a significant effect (p £ 0.01) of interaction between time of last irrigation and plant population was found for cotton yield. the highest cotton yield (4,090 kg/ha) was obtained with the interaction between time of last irrigation at 95 days and in population of 90,000 plants/ha. irrigation times at 65 and 80 days were considered too early, and at 110 days too late for cotton yields.

Abstract: Aiming to measure the resistance of ewes against gastrintestinal nematodes, an experiment was conducted at Centro de Pesquisa do Arenito, of the Universidade Estadual de Maringá, located in the city of Cidade Gaúcha, northwest of Paraná. Ninety- four Santa Inês, 14 Bergamácia and 25 Texel ewes were used. The flock remained on Tanzania (Panicum maximum cv. Jaq) pasture during the day, being withdrawn indoors, with suspended battened floor, during the night, when they were provided cassava bagasse. The ewes were monitored monthly and individually regarding the amount of endoparasites, through egg counting per gram of feces (EPG), and worms culture for identification of the species of those endoparasites. The Santa Inês ewes presented had lower (P ? 0,05) susceptibility comparing to the breeds Texel and Bergamácia, being the averages of EPG 838,58; 1240,31 and 1821,33 respectively. The highest percentage of endoparasites corresponded to the Haemonchus contortus, showing that this was the main type of endoparasites responsible for the EPG levels, followed by Trichostrongylus colubriformis. The counting of EPG of Santa Inês ewes showed a cubical behaviour over the year of observation, reaching the higher level in October, month in which the giving births happened. The Texel and Bergamácia ewes also showed cubical behaviour during the year, however, the higher EPG levels happened in the months of May, June and July. The Santa Inês ewes were the least prone to infection by endoparasites.

Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: The quantum error correction theory is as a rule formulated in a rather convoluted way, in comparison to classical algebraic theory. This work revisits the error correction in a noisy quantum channel so as to make it intelligible to engineers. An illustrative example is presented of a naive perfect quantum code (Hamming-like code) with five-qubits for transmitting a single qubit of information. Also the (9,1)-Shor codes is addressed.

Abstract: this work was carried out to evaluate the effect of irrigation water at different salinity levels, and of seed treatment with plant growth regulator, on the development of the cotton plant. the experimental design used was completely randomized, arranged in a 5 x 2 factorial scheme with four replications. the treatments resulted from the combinations of five levels of salinity of the irrigation water (s1-0.5, s2-2.0, s3-3.5, s4-5.0 and 6.5 ds m-1) on seeds, both treated and not treated with growth regulator. the evaluated characteristics were: number of leaves, leaf area, height, dry mass of stems, leaves and vegetative parts, specific leaf area and leaf area ratio. there was an interaction between salinity and seed treatments with mepiquat chloride, but only for leaf area and leaf area ratio. all other characteristics decreased with the increasing salinity of the irrigation water, with greater reductions in leaf area (mean of 65.8%) and dry mass of vegetative parts (64%). seed treatment with mepiquat chloride affected plant development, independent of salinity.
