A mobiliza??o do discurso da democracia racial no combate às cotas para afrodescendentes
Oliveira Filho, Pedro de;
Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-166X2009000400003
Abstract: this paper addresses the debate on racial democracy in respect of the arguments used by whites to combat the proposal to introduce racial quotas in brazil. it focuses on the ideological functions of this debate. we interviewed whites (n=60) from campinas, s?o paulo. the paper shows the themes and arguments taken from our national discussion about race, the defense of miscegenation, criticism of racial division, amongst other topics, which are mobilized against the fight for compensating policies. this debate rejects an affirmative action policy and conceals our racism.
Miscigena??o versus bipolaridade racial: contradi??es e conseqüências opressivas do discurso nacional sobre ra?as
Oliveira Filho, Pedro de;
Estudos de Psicologia (Natal) , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-294X2005000200012
Abstract: this article analyzes discourses of white people about the bipolar system of racial classification. it focuses on the function and effects of discourse. often, in these discourses, the bipolar system of racial classification appears as a product of racism and the brazilian people appear as a mixed race, as a people free of racial separation. they are discourses that hide our racism and the inequality between whites and blacks.
Uso de nuevas herramientas para el control de triatominos en diferentes situaciones entomológicas en el continente americano
Oliveira Filho, Alfredo M.;
Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical , 1997, DOI: 10.1590/S0037-86821997000100008
Abstract: the field results of new tools for triatomine control developed under the sponsorship of who/tdr are reported: a) a slow-release "paint" containing malathion; b) fumigant cans containing cypermethrin and ddvp , and c) sensor boxes for the detection of triatomine infestations. field assays were performed in chile, honduras and paraguay against triatoma infestans, t. dimidiata and rhodnius prolixus, accordingly to a standard protocol designed by a who experts committee. preliminary 6 months post-treatment results for the three countries show an efficient control when insecticide paints were used indoors and in the peridomicilium, keeping reinfestation near zero. the final results presented for chile two years post-treatment confirmed the superiority of the slow-release "paints". sensor boxes were less effective than man/hour captures in the detection of infested houses.
Altoé, Leandra;Oliveira Filho, Delly;
Engenharia Agrícola , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-69162010000500003
Abstract: in this study, we analyzed the feasibility of using radiation concentrators in thermal solar systems for the hygiene of milking parlors. we analyzed three options for water heating with tank accumulation: system with electric resistance, the solar system with concentrator and the solar system without concentrator. it was calculated the total cost of these alternatives and the net present value of the solar system supplemented by purchased eucalyptus wood, eucalyptus wood produced on the farm, electricity and liquefied petroleum gas (lpg). a sensitivity analysis of the thermal solar system varying the number of dairy cows, the electricity and the firewood costs, the interest rate, the system's components cost, the life expectancy and the subsidy on the equipment value. the thermal solar system with concentrator supplemented by firewood produced on the property was the more feasible heating alternative. the use of concentrators caused a reduction of around 10 % of the purchase cost of solar heating system.
Forma??o histórica do movimento adventista
Oliveira Filho, José Jeremias de;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142004000300012
Abstract: hoping to provide a comprehensive history of the seventh-day adventist church according to the representation of "work" and "message" by their adepts, the establishment of the church's symbolic representation, and the organizational practices guided by prophetess ellen g. white, this essay deals with the emergence, in millenarianism, of the adventist movement - which would transform the initial sect into a bureaucratically structured church, with its "commissioning" symbolically legitimized by the "mission". the presence of adventists in brazil between the end of the empire and the beginning of the first republic sustains the same initial characteristics of the movement, although it also generates numerous sects.

Oliveira Filho, José Costa de;
Anais do Museu Paulista: História e Cultura Material , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-47142003000100008
Abstract: thanks to the care of the architect tommaso gaudencio bezzi (1844-1915) in filing documents and countless newspaper articles related to the matters that involved himself directly and the monument to brazil's independence, it was possible for us to rescue relevant facts to the understanding of the monument-building conceived by him. many descriptions of that time enable us to have visions as much of the power of representation of the work and its repercussions on the city s?o paulo's society as in the work and activities of the architect. in this sense the text reproduces articles published in s?o paulo and rio de janeiro's main newspapers in the end of the second half of the 19th century. the articles describe the work in that historical moment and valorize the architect's activity, reminding us of the importance and complexity of architecture as an artistic production. "[…] the foundations and the ground floor have are already built. the brick of homogen contexture and great hardness is handmade, making on it, as if it was to be uncovered, all the moldings with a perfection whose secret only the italian workers have. hundreds of workers are in the labor, a number that should increase later when the distribution of work allows for that. an inclined plan, of great extension and powered by steam, takes the material to the top of the hill. it is expected that the sculptor bernadelli is the responsible for moulding the statue of d. pedro i and the others that shall decorate the building, which should, in a short time, be appreciated by the model in relief, which is carefully making mr. bezzi."

Differences of susceptibility of five triatomine species to pyrethroid insecticides - implications for Chagas disease vector control
Oliveira Filho Alfredo Martins de
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1999,
Abstract: As pyrethroids are presently the favored group of insecticides to control triatomines, we performed a series of bioassays to determine the intrinsic activity of some of the main compounds used in the control campaigns, against five of the main species of triatomines to be controlled. Comparing the insecticides it can be seen that lambdacyhalothrin is more effective than the other three pyrethroids, both considering the LD50 and 99 for all the three species with comparable results. On Triatoma infestans the LD50 of lambdacyhalothrin was followed by that of alfacypermethrin, cyfluthrin and deltamethrin. On Rhodnius prolixus the sequence, in decreasing order of activity, was lambdacyhalothrin, alfacypermethrin, deltamethrin and cyfluthrin. Some modifications can be seen when we compare the LD99, that has more to see to what happens in the field. T. brasiliensis showed to be as sensible to lambdacyhalothrin as T. infestans, the most susceptible for this product. By the other side T. sordida is the least susceptible considering the LD99 of this insecticide.
