Balbachán,Silvia E.; Merino,Luis A.; Merino,Daniel E.; Balbachán,Mariana Lorena; Miranda,Olga A.;
Revista Cubana de Medicina Tropical , 2007,
Abstract: in corrientes (argentina), from january 2004 to april 2005, fecal samples from under 5 years-old children with acute diarrhea were collected; the stool samples were cultured onto selective media, and those colonies suspected to be salmonella, vibrio, aeromonas, shigella, or escherichia coli o157 were identified. the antimicrobial susceptibility was assessed by the disk diffusion method. among 590 samples, the 7.7% were positive (salmonella spp 32.6% and shigella spp 67.4%). of 31 shigella isolates, 81% were s. flexneri, and 19% were s. sonnei. s. flexneri serotype 2 was the more frequent. s. flexneri strains showed higher multidrug resistance than s. sonnei strains. among the salmonella enterica serotypes, s. typhimurium and s. newport were the most frequent. two isolates of salmonella presented with multidrug resistance. this paper was a contribution to the knowledge of bacterial gastroenteritis etiology in our region and it called the attention to the emergence of multidrug-resistant enteropathogenic strains.

A leishmanioasis outbreak is reported among the inhabitants of an endemic area for this disease located in Cancha Larga, Chaco in Argentina. Frotis and biopsy confirmed that 11,8 % of the whole population was affected. They were all treated with meglumine antimonate.
La Noción de Referencia en Searle y El Sustrato Semántico-Pragmático de Los Actos de Habla
Balbachán,Fernando;
Boletin de Linguistica , 2008,
Abstract: from the standpoint of analytical philosophy, searle intends to elucidate the notion of reference as one of the two instances (the other is predication) that correspond to the propositional features of any speech act, an aspect of language that has traditionally been subjected to controversial analyses due to the ontological and epistemological commitments that it entails. in this article, searle?s thesis on reference as a speech act will be presented in the first place. then, the already known classical path form frege and russell will be discussed in order to compare their positions with searle?s and to point out shortcomings and flaws. finally, some interesting semantic and pragmatic implications of this traditional problem will be offered.

In Corrientes (Argentina), from January 2004 to April 2005, fecal samples from under 5 years-old children with acute diarrhea were collected; the stool samples were cultured onto selective media, and those colonies suspected to be Salmonella, Vibrio, Aeromonas, Shigella, or Escherichia coli O157 were identified. Revista Cubana de Medicina , 2008,
Abstract: 41 503 cards of donors or potential donors were examined to know the prevalence of some parenteral transmission agents in the central blood bank of corrientes. it was found that the prevalence of hepatitis b was 0.38 %; hepatitis c, 0.41 %; and hiv, 0.03 %. it was proved that the figures obtained were higher than the reported in the national epidemiological bulletin, which may result from the non-detection of the affected asymptomatic subjects or from an incomplete notification.

Revista Cubana de Medicina Tropical , 2008,
Abstract: background: it is quite complex to determine in practice the prevalence of antibodies to hepatitis b, c and hiv in the general population, given that the relative low presence of antibodies in some countries would demand very large samples. therefore, the seroprevalence studies performed in blood banks like that of corrientes city, contribute to knowing about the symptomatic effect or not of these diseases. data taken from the national surveillance system that appeared in the national epidemiological bulletin reveal that argentina had in 2001 an incidence rate of 2,1 cases of notified hbv cases, 1,3 hcv cases and 2.9 hiv cases per 100 000 pop. respectively. objectives: to determine the prevalence of antibodies to hepatitis b, c viruses and hiv in regular blood donors or potential donors in the central blood bank of corrientes through serological testing. methods: to find out this prevalence, the blood bank of corrientes examined 41 503 records of regular or potential donors. complete serological studies were conducted such as hbsag (elisa), anti-hcv (elisa and hiv(elisa) and vih confirmation using western blot). results: the prevalence of hepatitis b was 0,38 %, hepatitis c was 0,41 % and hiv was 0,03 %. conclusions: these figures were significantly higher than those reported in the national epidemiological bulletin, because although it shows incidence rates, it does not detect asymptomatic sick persons and the notification is still incomplete in argentina.

Olga N. Kononova, Nataliya G. Goryaeva, Olga V. Dychko
Natural Science (NS) , 2009, DOI: 10.4236/ns.2009.13021
Abstract: Sorption recovery of palladium (II) from nitrate weak acidic model solutions and solutions of spent catalysts on some ion exchangers with different physical and chemical structure has been investigated. The palladium concentration in contacting solutions was 5.0 ? 10-5 – 1.0 ? 10-3 mol/L at nitric acid and potassium nitrate con-centrations 0.01 and 1.0 mol/L, respectively. It was shown that anion exchangers AV-17-8 as well as Purolite S 985 and A 500 possess the best sorption and kinetic properties. These sorbents can be recommended for selective recovery of palladium from solutions of spent catalysts.
Protective effects of polar lipids and redox-active compounds from marine organisms at modeling of hyperlipidemia and diabetes  [PDF]
Alexander M. Popov, Olga N. Krivoshapko
Journal of Biomedical Science and Engineering (JBiSE) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/jbise.2013.65069
Abstract:

Cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus are leading causes of mortality in modern society. The search for a novel effective remedy represents an important task for modern medicine. A total mixture of phospho- and glycolipids from sea macrophytes Sargassum pallidum, Ulva fenestrata, Zostera marina was separated and the fatty acid composition was determined. The biological activity of the mixtures of polar lipids and natural redox-active compounds (echinochrome A from the flat sea urchin Scaphechinus mirabilis and a polyphenolic complex from the sea grass Zostera marina) was studied under conditions of impairments of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. Doses and compositions of mixtures of pola lipids and redox-active compounds possessing high corrective activity were optimized in mice with the experimental model of hyperlipidemia and diabetes. Based on these results possible mechanisms of the effects of polar lipids containing various polyunsaturated fatty acids and the investigated redox-active compounds (echinochrome A, rosmarinic acid, luteolin and its sulphate conjugates) have been proposed. The developed compositions may be used for creation of new biologically active additives and remedies.

A New Criterion for Distinguishing Yendonia Kylin and Mikamiella M.J. Wynne (Delesseriaceae, Rhodophyta)  [PDF]
Olga N. Selivanova, Galina G. Zhigadlova
American Journal of Plant Sciences (AJPS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ajps.2013.412305
Abstract:

An additional morphological criterion is presented to distinguish vegetative samples of the genera Yendonia and Mikamiella (Delesseriaceae, Rhodophyta). The undescribed earlier feature of Y. crassifolia is the presence of abundant lightrefracting cells in the tissues of the blades of both fertile and vegetative plants. This feature was never observed in Mikamiella, namely, in M. ruprechtiana. Additional data amending the description of the genus Yendonia are presented.
