Abstract: The design and reconstruction of the Square of the Fallen Fighters in pre-war Stalingrad is considered. First attributes of the various buildings is produced, their specificity in the host city planning and building of architectural look is identified. New information about authors-architects and engineers who formed the town planning complex of the center Stalingrad, is described. Stylistic and features of buildings, designed in the years 1928-1938, are discussed. The search for a new style, which combines techniques of constructivism and the logic of classical planning tracks, relying on the ambidextrous symmetry, is recognized as the basis for work on the architectural and artistic work of building the central square of the pre-war Stalingrad.
Freshwater Fish Abundance and Distribution in the Orange River, South Africa
P.P. Ramollo
Journal of Fisheries International , 2012, DOI: 10.3923/jfish.2011.13.17
Abstract: Fish species abundance and distribution in the middle and lower Orange river basin were investigated in November 2010. Fish specimens were collected by means of an electric shocker and seine nets. Sixteen fish species comprising of a total number of 13,762 individuals belonging to five families were collected. The number of individuals caught showed that 64.7% were represented by the family Cyprinidae, 34.1% Cichlidae, 0.25% Claridae, 0.67% Austroglanidae and 0.36% Poecilidae. Aliens Cyprinus carpio, Gambusia affinis and translocated Oreochromis mossambicus were also recorded during the study. Labeo capensis, Labeobarbus aeneus and Pseudocrilabrus philander were the most abundant in the middle section of the river while Mesobola brevianalis and Barbus hospes were more abundant in the lower section of the river. During this study, a new distribution of Gambusa affinis was recorded at all sites except at site one and seven. High abundance of Austroglanis sclateri was only recorded at site three.

Journal of Minerals and Materials Characterization and Engineering (JMMCE) , 2009, DOI: 10.4236/jmmce.2009.81005
Abstract: The low-grade siliceous manganese ores from Bonai-Keonjhar belt, Orissa, India was mineralogically characterized and investigated for their possible upgradation. Different physical beneficiation techniques like gravity, magnetic separation etc. were employed and results reported. The results reveal that a feed having 26% Mn could be upgraded to more than 45% Mn by using a dry belt type magnetic separator with 69% recovery at 1.00 tesla magnetic intensity at finer sizes.

Abstract: Forests play a very significant role in the global carbon cycle, having absorbed approximately one third of recent anthropogenic emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere (Streck et al. 2008). However, human activities in forests have also become an important source of carbon emissions, with deforestation contributing to about one fifth of the annual anthropogenic total. Humans contribute to CO2 emissions in two ways - through burning fossil-fuels and converting forestlands to other uses. Initially, land-use changes (deforestation) were the principle source of carbon emissions. However, starting in the 20th century, fossil-fuel emissions have increased rapidly, while emissions due to deforestation have gradually declined. Therefore, one way to address the issue of increasing carbon emissions and climate change is to maintain and increase the stock of sustainably managed forests.
Don quijote, Christelike geloof en natuurwetenskap 1
H. P.P. L?tter
Koers : Bulletin for Christian Scholarship , 1987, DOI: 10.4102/koers.v52i1- 4.910
Abstract: The story about Don Qulchote and the windmills is used in this article as an analogy to typify the debates that have taken place in history between natural science and representatives of Christian religion. The analogy is tested on debates that took place around Galileo. Darwin, Newton, Cuvier and the Big Bang theory. The analogy matches these debates quite well and this Is explained by the view that scientific claims to knowledge, and claims to knowledge based on Christian faith, belong to different categories and are thus not concurrents for the same truth. Gilbert Ryle's criticism on Descartes' mind-body dualism is used here to strengthen this argument. The article is concluded by pointing out in what ways one can engage in a meaningful debate on the nature of the relationship between science and Christian religion.
Darwin and Genesis

Koers : Bulletin for Christian Scholarship , 1987, DOI: 10.4102/koers.v52i1- 4.899
