Isolation and identification of an isomer of β-sitosterol by HPLC and GC-MS  [PDF]

Abstract: Phytosterols are a group of steroids alcohols which had been regarded as a functional factor. An unknown compound in phytosterol samples and phytosterol standard samples was detected by HPLC using symmetry C18 column. The quan- tity of the compound was increased with the enrichment of β-sitosterol. After being collected and analyzed by GC-MS and compared with standard diagram from Wiley and Nist standard chart library, it proved to be γ-sitosterol, a 24β epimer of β-sitosterol.

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the role of p27 in the inhibition of emodin on the mesangial cell (MC) proliferation induced by tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Methods: p27 protein of MC was detected with western blotting analysis. The degree of MC proliferation was estimated through[3H]thymidine ([3H]TdR) incorporation. Different dosage of emodin (50 mg/L,100 mg/L) was added into MC stimulated by TNF-α. Results: TNF-α (200 kU/L) decreased p27 level of MC cultured in serum-free DMEM for 24 hours and increased[3H]TdR incorporation. Emodin increased p27 level of MC stimulated by TNF-α and decreased [3H]TdR incorporation. The more the emodin was added, the greater the above-mentioned effect of emodin. Conclusion: The increment of p27 level maybe play an important role in the inhibition of emodin on MC proliferation induced by TNF-α.

Abstract: The paper discussed some issues regarding blank string e in the formal language and automata theory.After analysis of the influence of production e on grammar and language classification,the paper discussed the effect of starting symbol S and the starting state qo from the perspective of grammer and infinite state and proposed a simple method to increase language or decrease sentence ε.The paper also proposed a new method to transit ε-NFA to NFA after studying the essence of ε state transition function of ε-NFA.The method is:first transit ε-NFA to formal grammar and eliminate production ε and single production.After that,regular grammar was obtained.Then transited regular grammar to NFA.Examples were given to support the discussion.
Progress in molecular and physiological mechanisms of water-saving by compensation for water deficit of crop and how they relate to crop production

Abstract: The theory and technology of water-saving through crop compensation for water deficit and how they relate to crop production are theoretically important and potentially promising in agriculture application. Molecular and physiological mechanisms, however, still constitute those issues that need further research. The molecular and physiological processes of water-saving of crop by compensation for moderate water deficit was systematically analyzed based on related research advances in recent years. The researches results showed that water deficit and re-watering could change growth of plant nutritional organs such as roots, stems and leaves. Osmo-regulation, transpiration, photosynthesis and other physiological processes were also altered by water deficit and re-watering. Protein activity and molecular metabolism of crops adapted to changes in water availability. A water deficit threshold controlled compensations in crop production. With appropriate degree and duration of water deficit, crop water use efficiency improved and even increased (instead of decreasing) crop yield. If widely adopted in agricultural production, water-saving technologies through compensation for water deficit could be vital for improving economic returns and food safety.
Limits on Construction Land Use in the Pearl River Delta

Abstract: This paper discusses the availability of land for construction use in the Pearl River Delta, with restrictions based on food security, use suitability and the need for an integrated life-support environment. Analysis based on food security restrictions shows that if land use conforms to the government-s Regulations on the Protection of Basic Farmland, then a baseline of farmland will be maintained. An analysis based on suitable use and integrated life-support environment factors shows that the maximum land area available for construction use in the Pearl River Delta is from 97.12×104 hm2 to 110.57×104hm2, 23.30 to 26.52 percent of the total area. The currently undeveloped portion totals 21.08×104hm2 to 34.53×104hm2. Based on the rate of urban expansion from 1997 to 2004, unused construction land in the PRD will be used up in no more than 13 years. Depletion of available construction land is projected to occur in Zhuhai, Foshan and Zhongshan in 3 to 4 years, in Shenzhen and Dongguan in 7 to 8 years, and in Guangzhou in 13 years. Since land use and land supply are not perfectly matched, we assume that land supply will be depleted even more rapidly than estimated and cities in the PRD will soon experience a shortage of land. Although other cities in the Pearl River Delta, including Huizhou, Zhaoqing and Jiangmen, have a relatively abundant supply of land available for construction, there will also be conflicts over land resources due to rapid economic growth and the increasing use of land for construction. Overall, the supply of land for construction use in most cities of the Pearl River Delta is quite limited. There should be strict control of the land supply in order to improve the efficiency and quality of land use.
Principal Component and Subordinate Function of the Alleviating Effects of Hydrogen Peroxide(H2O2) on Low-temperature Stress in Naked Oat(Avena nuda) Seedlings

Abstract: 为探明信号分子过氧化氢(H2O2)提高裸燕麦幼苗耐冷性的作用,以‘定莜6号’沙培幼苗为材料,在3叶期喷施10 μmol·L-1 H2O2 12 h后于8℃/5℃(昼/夜)条件下低温胁迫,以喷蒸馏水(H2O)为对照,分别在低温处理的0、1、2、3、4、5 d取幼苗叶片测定超氧阴离子(O2-·)、H2O2、丙二醛(MDA)、超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)、过氧化氢酶(CAT)、过氧化物酶(POD)、抗坏血酸过氧化物酶(APX)、抗坏血酸(AsA)、谷胱甘肽(GSH)、可溶性糖(SS)、脯氨酸(Pro)、可溶性蛋白质(SP)和热稳定性蛋白质(HSP)13项与耐冷性有关的生理指标及低温处理5 d后植株株高和生物量增量,采用主成分和隶属函数分析综合评价H2O2对裸燕麦幼苗耐冷性的影响。结果表明,与对照相比,喷施H2O2显著提高了低温胁迫下裸燕麦幼苗株高和生物量增量,降低了裸燕麦幼苗叶片O2-·和MDA及低温胁迫2~5 d的H2O2含量,促进低温胁迫期间裸燕麦幼苗叶片SOD、CAT、POD和APX活性提高及AsA、GSH、SS、Pro、SP和HSP积累。主成分分析13项生理指标离差标准化数据,提取的前4个主成分累积方差贡献率达85.6%;隶属函数综合评价4个主成分得分值显示,喷施H2O2显著提高了低温胁迫0~5 d的综合评价值。表明喷施H2O2能够通过调控生理生化代谢提高裸燕麦幼苗的耐冷性。
Apoptosis-Inducing Effect of Ginsenoside Rg6 on Human Lymphocytoma JK Cells

Abstract: In this communication our aim was to study the JK cell growth inhibitory and apoptosis-inducing effects of ginsenoside Rg6 (GRg6) from steamed notoginseng on human lymphocytoma. The CCK-8 method was used to observe the anti-proliferative effect of GRg6 on human lymphocytoma JK cells. Flow cytometry was performed to analyze the influence of GRg6 on cell cycle. The Annexin-V FITC/PI double-staining method was used to detect the ratio of apoptotic cells. JC-1 staining was undertaken to observe the influence of GRg6 on intracellular mitochondrial membrane potential. Finally, western blots were conducted to detect the expression level of apoptosis-related Bax and the Bcl-2 proteins. The results suggested that GRg6 can inhibit the proliferation of human lymphocytoma JK cells. GRg6 blocks an S arrest in the cell cycle. With the increase in GRg6 concentration, the potential in the cell decreased in a dose dependent manner, and Bax protein expression gradually increased, whereas Bcl-2 protein expression gradually decreased. In conclusion, GRg6 can inhibit JK cell proliferation in human lymphocytoma and induce its apoptosis. The mechanism of action may be related to mitochondrial dysfunction and an increase of Bax expression and decrease of Bcl-2 expression caused by GRg6.
Microwave Heating Preparation of Agmodified TiO2 for Photocatalytic Degradation of Gaseous Toluene

Abstract: Using Ti(OBu)4 as titanium source, Agmodified TiO2 was prepared by the microwave heating method and the hydrothermal ethod, respectively, and was characterized by Xray diffraction (XRD), Xray fluorescence (XRF), ultravioletvisible diffuse reflectance spectroscope (UV-Vis) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The photocatalytic activity of the samples was tested in the degradation of gaseous toluene under UV and visible light irradiation, respectively. The results showed that the presence of Ag promoted the phase transformation of TiO2 from anatase to other phases. Compared with the hydrothermal method, the microwave heating method had more positive effect on the formation of Agmodified TiO2 with smaller crystallite size (16.4nm) and aggregate (80-200nm), more phases structure (anatase, rutile and brookite), richer channel structure, and lower band gap energy (2.87eV). Furthermore, Agmodified TiO2 prepared by the microwave heating method exhibited a better photocatalytic activity in the degradation of toluene under UV or visible light irradiation.
Identification of Two Polysaccharides from Prunella vulgaris L. and Evaluation on Their Anti-Lung Adenocarcinoma Activity

Abstract: Prunella vulgaris L. (PV) has been used for tumor therapy in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries, however, systematic research on extracted PV polysaccharides believed to possess various biological activities, as well as their preventive and anti-tumor effects on lung cancer has not been reported. In this study, two polysaccharides (P31 and P32) were isolated from the aqueous extract of PV and purified through ethanol precipitation, followed by deproteination using DEAE-52 gel-filtration chromatography. The main monosaccharide composition of polysaccharide P32 was analyzed by GC. It was found that polysaccharide P32 consisted of rhamnose, arabinose, xylose, mannose, glucose and galactose in a molar ratio of 3.46:49.32:58.91:0.43:2.64: 3.11, respectively. In order to evaluate polysaccharide P32’s anti-lung adenocarcinoma activities and immunomodulation effects, a C57BL/6 mouse-Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) model was established and investigated. Our results showed that polysaccharides of PV had anti-lung cancer activity and could increase the thymus index and the spleen index in tumor-bearing mice, suggesting possible immunomodulation effects.
