Revista Brasileira de Saúde Materno Infantil , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-38292010000300005
Abstract: objectives: to investigate the association between socioeconomic position and the presence of nonsyndromic cleft lip and/or palate (cl/p). methods: a case-control study with 110 cases with cl/p matched by age and gender with 220 controls was carried out, the cases were selected from the "hospital ni?o dif hidalgo" of pachuca, hidalgo, mexico. a structured questionnaire which contained socioeconomic variables was used to recollect data. applying the principal component analysis (polycoric correlation) the socioeconomic variables were combined and were builded several socioeconomic position indicators as: socioeconomic level (house characteristics), living comfort level (house supplies), parents education (school years), social security, indigenism (native language spoken by either parent). a bivariate analysis was realized using conditional logistic regression. results: the highest frecuency found was the cleft lip and palate at the same time (90.9%) either uni or bilateral. the most common defect was left cleft lip and palate (33.6%). cleft lip and/ or palate was associated with the living comfort level (compared with the worst quintil: 2nd or= 0.46; p=0.030, 3rd or=0.39; p=0.015, 4th or= 0.30; p=0.002, 5th or=0.27; p=0.001), socioeconomic level (compared with the worst tercil: 2nd or=0.46; p=0.004), 3rd or=0.18; p<0.001, father's schooling (or=0.86; p<0.001), and mother's schooling (or=0.84; p<0.001). conclusions: the study demonstrates the socioeconomic inequality in oral health, observing risk for cl/p according to socioeconomic position.

Abstract: Objetivo. Rheumatoid arthritis and the role of oral bacteria
Juan Pablo Loyola-Rodriguez,Rita Elizabeth Martinez-Martinez,Carlos Abud-Mendoza,Nuria Pati?o-Marin
Journal of Oral Microbiology , 2010, DOI: 10.3402/jom.v2i0.5784
Abstract: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and periodontal disease (PD) have shown similar physiopathologic mechanisms such as chronic inflammation with adjacent bone resorption in an immunogenetically susceptible host; however, PD has a well-recognized bacterial etiology while the cause of RA is unclear. Some reports have indicated that an infectious agent in a susceptible host could be one possible trigger factor for RA, and it has been suggested that oral microorganisms, specialty periodontal bacteria could be the infectious agent (mainly Porphyromonas gingivalis). It has been reported that PD is more frequent and more severe in patients with RA, suggesting a positive association between both diseases. There have been reports regarding the detection of antibodies against periodontal bacteria while other studies have identified periodontal bacterial DNA in serum and synovial fluid of RA patients and have explored the possible pathways of transport of periodontal bacterial DNA. In conclusion, there is no question that RA and PD have pathologic features in common and there is strong evidence of an association between both diseases, but further studies, including experimental models, are needed to demonstrate the arthritogenicity of oral microorganisms.

Izquierdas , 2012,
Planas, Nuria;Iranzo, Nuria;
Revista latinoamericana de investigación en matemática educativa , 2009,
Abstract: in this article, a part of model to analyze the description and interpretation of interactions inside the mathematics classroom is presented. the importance of real classroom cases that contribute to the deconstruction and interpretation of the mathematics classroom is argued from the double prospective of the mathematical content and the social interactions. to do so, the operational use and the integration of notions associated with different theoretical traditions, especially the ones related to mathematical practices, sociomathematical norms, and conflict of meanings are presented. once the analytical model is described, its use is applied to a transcribed episode of a lesson in a secondary classroom of barcelona, spain. finally, reflections about the interest and potential of the model to generate scientific knowledge about the interaction in teaching and learning mathematics situations are discussed.
