International Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning , 2012,
Abstract: In this study we aim to conduct a complete evaluation of the e-portfolio application in the distance teaching practice course that is part of the Distance English Language Teacher (DELT) program at Anadolu University from the perspective of three groups: university supervisors, preservice teachers, and cooperating teachers. Using a survey on the needs of preservice teachers and how well these were met according to the three groups’ perspectives, we gathered qualitative and quantitative data on the feasibility of the e-portfolio application. Our analysis of the findings revealed that all three groups agreed about the needs of preservice teachers. And despite some minor variance in the perspectives of each group, we determined that e-portfolio applications can meet the majority of the planning, teaching, and reflection needs in the teaching process. We offer suggestions to improve e-portfolio applications so they will better meet preservice teachers’ needs.
Do Turkish Companies and German Companies in Germany Differ in Terms of Financial Performance?
Nurhan Aydin,Metin Coskun,Arda Surmeli,Gulsah Kulali
International Journal of Business and Management , 2012, DOI: 10.5539/ijbm.v7n5p40
Abstract: Turkish immigrants have always been an important dynamic for the social and business life in Germany since October 1961, “Agreement for Sending the Turkish Workers to Germany”. They have then started to become important players as entrepreneurs in the economy after 1990s. This study aims to analyze performance of Turkish and German companies in production and service industries operating in Germany by using financial analysis methodology, and it aims to compare the results. Using 2007 financial data, the empirical results show that Turkish firms in both industries take more liquidity risk than their German counterparts while they are using less leverage in order to finance their investments. Moreover, Turkish companies have less profitability than German companies with the effect of high cost of debt. Especially in service industry, Turkish firms have low level of return for a unit of risk and low level of output for a unit of input.
Introducing a Computer Aided Instruction into Nutrition Course: Student Evaluation
Nurhan Unusan
Pakistan Journal of Nutrition , 2006,
Abstract: Computer aided instruction (CAI) has gained reputation in a lot of disciplines. The aim of the research was to folds: student evaluation of the implementation of a CAI and perceptions of the value of CAI in learning nutrition. A prototype CAI nutrition program was developed to provide principles of nutrition. Descriptive, Kruskal Wallis test and Spearman correlations were conducted to explore the relationship among study variables. 399 students were included in the analyses. The vast majority of students reacted positively to CAI. There was significant difference between gender on preference, image quality, learning, and the motivation. There is a significant difference between gender on protein, energy, and health knowledge subjects. Students` responses to CAI were very high. Based on the results of this research, nutrition educators can recommend that nutrition CAI programs be implemented in university students.

Nurhan SAKAR
The Turkish Online Journal of Distance Education , 2009,
Abstract: Hereby in this study; the opinions of the senior students, who took course support through web based asynchronous communication methods in the academic year 2007–2008 at the Open Education Faculty, English Language Teaching Bachelor of Arts Program (OEF ELT BA) at Anadolu University, about the general online courses are presented. According to the results of the study favorable and unfavorable aspects of online courses for OEF ELT BA students are defined and amendatory precautions are proposed. ELT BA began accepting student enrollments in 2000–2001 academic years. Aforesaid program is a Bachelor of Arts Program which is identical to the program offered by English Language Teaching Departments of faculties providing formal (face to face) education. In this program web based asynchronous courses have been provided for junior and senior students since the academic year 2003–2004. Online courses are given by instructors from Faculty of Education ELT Department of Anadolu University. Data of the study were acquired from the questionnaires filled by 504 senior students enrolled in the academic year 2007–2008. These students were chosen among 1586 students who lived in Eski ehir during their study. The results show that 58,2% of students have computer and internet connection in their houses. Students generally attend online courses once or twice a week. Attendance to online courses increases during examination terms. Students, who don’t believe in the contribution of online courses don’t attend those courses.
Digital IIR Filter Design Using Differential Evolution Algorithm
Nurhan Karaboga
EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing , 2005, DOI: 10.1155/asp.2005.1269
Abstract: Any digital signal processing algorithm or processor can be reasonably described as a digital filter. The main advantage of an infinite impulse response (IIR) filter is that it can provide a much better performance than the finite impulse response (FIR) filter having the same number of coefficients. However, they might have a multimodal error surface. Differential evolution (DE) algorithm is a new heuristic approach mainly having three advantages; finding the true global minimum of a multimodal search space regardless of the initial parameter values, fast convergence, and using a few control parameters. In this work, DE algorithm has been applied to the design of digital IIR filters and its performance has been compared to that of a genetic algorithm.

Advances in Pure Mathematics (APM) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/apm.2012.25048
Abstract: In this paper we give sufficient conditions so that for every nonoscillatory u(t) solution of (r(t)ψ(u)u')'+Q(t,u,u'), we have lim inf|u(t)|=0. Our results contain the some known results in the literature as particular cases.
Software Competences of Geomatic Engineering  [PDF]
Serkan Aydin
International Journal of Geosciences (IJG) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ijg.2015.612102
Abstract: In this paper, it is both intended to effectively transfer and emphasize the relationship between geospatial data and software applications while presenting the learning activities which required software competences and presented some software techniques related with geomatic engineering. Effective software competence in geomatic is required for both the combination of information-communication technologies and interdisciplinary collaborative learning activities. The essential way to keep up with future competences is adaptation to different types of information technologies. Today, it is obviously seen that the using of interest-activated technology is a sine qua non condition of engineering education. The main focusing point of this paper is to present some learning suggestions while developing a software related course content in Geomatic to empower engineering education.

Open Journal of Pediatrics (OJPed) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ojped.2016.61003
Abstract: The aim is to present a case operated due to one-month ongoing intussusception and diagnosed as lymphoma. A six years old boy was admitted to our emergency department with complaint of colicky abdominal pain and bilious vomiting for the last month. He was operated due to 3 cm intussusception at ileocecal part. A mass which is about 6 cm in diameter, hard, partly mobile and invaginate the intestine at its posterior aspect was found. Pathology was reported as Burkitt lymphoma. He received two cycles of chemotherapy at post-operative period. He is still event free for the last two years. One must remember that lymphoma can be the lead point in intussusception especially in elderly children.

BUYUKKARTAL,H. NURHAN BAKAR;
Biological Research , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0716-97602009000100003
Abstract: the aim of this study is to describe the ultrastructural changes of the egg apparatus associated with fertilisation of the natural tetraploid trifolium pratense. the pollen tube enters one of the synergids through the filliform apparatus from the micropyle. before the entry of the pollen tube into the embryo sac, one of the synergids begins to degenerate, as indicated by increased electron density and a loss of volume. this cell serves as the site of entry for the pollen tube. following fertilization, the vacuolar organisation in the zygote changes; in addition to the large micropylar vacuole, there are several small vacuoles of varying size. ribosomal concentration increases significantly after fertilisation. in t. pratense, ultrastructural changes between the egg cell and zygote stages are noticeable. several marked changes occur in the egg cell because of fertilisation. the zygote cell contains ribosomes has many mitochondria, plastids, lipids, vacuoles. after fertilization, most of the food reserves are located in the integument in the form of starch. the zygote shows ultrastructural changes when compared to the egg cell and appears to be metabolically active.
