INVENTARIO DE GASES CON EFECTO INVERNADERO EMITIDOS POR LA ACTIVIDAD AGROPECUARIA CHILENA

Abstract: the greenhouse gas emissions from chilean agriculture were estimated. the results showed that during 1994, chilean agriculture emitted 321.92 gg of methane; 21.80 gg of n2o; 2.96 gg of nox and 51.97 gg of co. also, agriculture generated 2.59 gg year-1 of non-methane volatile compound emissions (nmvoc). these figures as a percentage of the non-energy sector emissions are as follows: 74.3% for methane; 5.1 % for co; 93.8 % for n2o; 9.8 % for nox and 4.9 % for nmvoc. taking into account the potential warming effects of methane and nitrous oxide as co2 equivalent amounts, agriculture is responsible for 10,504 gg co2 year-1. since forestry, land-use changes and handling of residues in chile represent a net capture of 29,709 co2 gg year-1, agriculture reduces this surplus to 35.4 %. so, the total surplus is about 19.205 gg year-1.

Abstract: Se realizó una estimación de los gases con efecto invernadero emitidos por la agricultura chilena. Los resultados indican que el a o 1994, la agricultura chilena emitió 321,92 Gg de metano, 21,80 Gg de N2O; 2,96 Gg de NOx y 51,97 Gg de CO. Además, se estimó que las emisiones de COVNM llegan a 2,59 Gg a o-1. Estas cifras expresadas como porcentaje de las emisiones del sector no energía chileno llegan a un 74,3 % para el metano, un 5,1 % para el CO; un 93,8 % para el N2O; un 9,8 % para los NOx y un 4,9 % para los COVNM. Al sumar el potencial de calentamiento de las emisiones de metano y óxidos de N resulta que la agricultura estaría emitiendo un total equivalente a 10.504 Gg de CO2 a o-1. La silvicultura, el cambio de uso del suelo y la gestión de residuos del país, generan una captación neta de CO2 de 29.709 Gg a o-1, por ello se reduce este excedente en un 32 % el que quedaría en 19.205 Gg. Abstract: La anorexia nerviosa (AN) tiene una etiología en la cual confluyen diversos factores, entre los cuales se halla uno de mucho peso: el endiosamiento de cierta figura corporal femenina como el absoluto de plenitud mujeril. Este fatuo y falso estereotipo impulsa a no pocas mujeres a absurdas dietas sin ningún control médico, en las cuales se halla la raíz de la AN. Empe arnos en el cambio de la sociedad de consumo imperante que nos asfixia y que genera dichos estereotipos es, sin duda, una de las mejores terapias preventivas de la AN. Abstract: background: economic evaluation of health care is an instrument of support to decision-making in the allocation of resources between different options. the current study was conducted with a view to implement an organised mass-screening programme. the objective was to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of three options: two programmes to be implemented that are called ?pap screening? and ?thin-prep screening?, and the strategy currently in place called ?spontaneous screening?. methods: the analysis was undertaken from the health care system perspective. the analytic horizon was 10 years. direct medical costs were estimated and discounted at a rate of 5 %. effectiveness was estimated as number of preinvasive carcinomas detected and life years gained. the cost-effectiveness ratio was estimated for the three options and incremental cost-effectiveness was estimated by comparison of the options to be implemented with the current strategy. a sensitivity analysis was conducted on the key variables. results: the average cost per carcinoma detected was 1,199 euros with ?pap screening?, 3,148 euros with ?spontaneous screening? and 4,619 euros with ?thin-prep screening?. the average cost per life year gained was 29 euros with ?pap screening?, 77 euros with ?spontaneous screening? and 114 euros with ?thin-prep screening?. ?pap screening? had an additional cost of 623 euros per additional carcinoma detected and 15 euros per additional life year gained. ?thin-prep screening? had an additional cost of 6,350 euros per additional carcinoma detected and 156 euros per additional life year gained. conclusions: ?pap screening? had the best cost-effectiveness relation and the lowest additional cost-effectiveness.
USO DEL ANáLISIS DE IMáGENES EN EL DIAGNóSTICO DE LA "TRISTEZA DE LOS CíTRICOS" EN LIMONEROS (Citrus limon (L.) Burm.) DEL VALLE DE MALLARAUCO, CHILE

Abstract: with the objective of evaluating the use of image analysis in the detection of "citrus tristeza virus" on lemon trees (citrus limon (l.) burm.) and to calibrate a screening method for the disease, color aerial photographs of sectors with lemon orchards in the mallarauco valley; chile, and samples of healthy plants and plants with virus symptoms were taken. elisa tests for the virus and analysis of the spectral signatures of the sampled sites were performed. simple visual inspection of the photographs was enough to discriminate between areas with healthy and sick plants. the reflectivity of the three bands- blue, green and red - was higher in sick plants than in healthy plants. moreover, the discrimination between sectors of diseased plants was best on the red band. a significant correlation coefficient, 0.63, was found between sectors with ill plants and reflectance for the red band. on correlating the number of diseased plants with the area under curve of the spectral signatures a slightly superior correlation coefficient, 0.64 significant at 95%, was obtained. this implies that the technique not only can be used to discriminate between healthy and ill plants but also to evaluate the percentage of diseased plants in each sector of the orchard.

Abstract: the karyotype of alstroemeria diluta subsp. chrysantha ehr. bayer from chile was examined. the species has 2n = 2x = 16 chromosomes, with 4m + 4sm + 2st-sat + 4t + 2t-sat. the reported karyotype is very asymmetrical (ask % = 71.4 and syi = 40.0%). this karyotype is similar to that published previously for alstroemeria graminea phil.

Abstract: background: impedanciometry is a sensitive test that allows the diagnosis of intratimpanic ef?ision. both tympanogram gradient (tg) and tympanogram width (tw) can be obtained from it. usually, international reference values for these variables are used, but their distribution in chilean pediatric population remains uncertain. objective: establish normal values for these parameters in chilean children 4 to 6 years-old. method: this study was performed at the otorhinolaryngology service of hospital militar in santiago, contemplating all chilean army personnel children, both sexes, 4 to 6 years-old who assisted to the center between march and june 2003. 180 children were evaluated by anamnesis, otoscopy, audiometry and impedanciometry. results: normal values for tg were determined with a 95% confidence interval. these were 0,21 to 0,62 for girls and 0,22 to 0,57 for boys. percentiles were determined for tw, where its normal valué can be estimated in our population by means of its inverse, with significative correlation with tg. conclusión: these normal values will improve impedanciometry accuracy in the diagnosis of intratimpanic effusion, at the moment based on timpanometric shape and compliance peak.

Abstract: Introducción: La impedanciometría es un estudio sensible para la pesquisa precoz de efusión intratimpánica que permite obtener las variables gradiente (GT) y ancho del timpanograma (AT). Generalmente, se utilizan valores de referencia internacionales de dichas variables para este propósito, pues se desconoce su distribución en la población pediátrica chilena. Objetivo: Establecer valores de normalidad de estos parámetros en ni os chilenos entre 4 y 6 a os. Pacientes y Método: Este estudio se realizó en el Servicio de Otorrinolaringología del Hospital Militar de Santiago. Población: todos los ni os y ni as entre 4 y 6 a os, hijos del personal del Ejército de Chile, asistentes al hospital entre marzo y junio de 2003. Muestra: 180 ni os, evaluados mediante anamnesis, otoscopia, audiometría e impedanciometría. Resultados: Valores normales de GT: 0,21 a 0,62 en ni as y 0,22 a 0,57 en ni os. Ambos con un intervalo de confianza de 95%. Para AT se determinaron percentiles y su valor de normalidad se estima mediante la correlación inversa existente entre GT y AT, que es significativa. Conclusión: Estos valores de normalidad aumentarán la precisión impedanciométrica en el diagnóstico de efusión intratimpánica, que actualmente, en Chile, se basa en la forma timpanométrica y peak de complianza.
