Determina o sérica de haptoglobina, ceruloplasmina e a-glicoproteína ácida em c es com gastrenterite hemorrágica

Abstract: As proteínas de fase aguda (PFA) s o proteínas plasmáticas, cujo estímulo à síntese ocorre de forma rápida e marcante em resposta à injúria tecidual. Estas proteínas permitem o diagnóstico de processos inflamatórios em animais com supress o ou depress o medular. Além disso, s o úteis na monitoriza o da resolu o tecidual de traumas ou inflama o e também na avalia o da resposta organica ao tratamento. Uma vez que a leucopenia é observada nos estádios iniciais da parvovirose canina, a dosagem das PFA pode permitir a avalia o do processo inflamatório sob estas condi es. Considerando-se estas hipóteses, foram determinados os níveis séricos das PFA (haptoglobina, ceruloplasmina e alfa-glicoproteína ácida) em 11 c es saudáveis e 11 c es leucopênicos com gastrenterite hemorrágica, com suspeita clínica de parvovirose canina. A avalia o estatística mostrou diferen a significativa, com intervalo de confiabilidade de 99% (P<0,01) para a haptoglobina (p< 0,0064) e para a glicoproteína ácida (p< 0,0042) e 95% de confian a (P< 0,05) para a ceruloplasmina (p< 0,0478) quando comparada com o grupo controle. Em conclus o, c es com gastrenterite hemorrágica durante a fase leucopênica apresentaram níveis elevados de haptoglobina, ceruloplasmina e alfa-glicoproteína ácida.

Abstract: acute phase proteins (app) are serum proteins whose stimulus for the synthesis happens in a quick and intense manner in response to tissue injury. those proteins allow the diagnosis of inflammatory process in animals with bone marrow depression and, also, they are useful in the follow up of tissue resolution of traumas or inflammation, as well as in the evaluation of the organic response of the treatment. as leukopenia is observed in the initial stage of the canine parvovirus infection, the dosage of app can allow the evaluation of the inflammatory process under these conditions. according to these hypothesis, serum app levels (haptoglobin, ceruloplasm and a-acid-glycoprotein) in 11 healthy dogs and 11 leukopenic dogs with haemorrhagic gastroenteritis, clinically suspected of canine parvovirus infection, were measured. there was a significant difference, with confidence interval of 99% (p <0.01) for the haptoglobin (p <0.0064) and the acid a-glycoprotein (p <0.0042) and 95% (p <0.05) of confidence for the ceruloplasmin (p <0.0478) when compared to the control group. in conclusion, dogs with haemorrhagic gastroenteritis during the leukopenic phase showed high serum levels of haptoglobin, ceruloplasmin and a-acid-glycoprotein.
Salivary alpha-amylase activity—An indicator of relaxation response in perioperative patients  [PDF]

Abstract: The psychological stress of most perioperative patients has been reduced by many interventions. In order to evaluate the effects of these interventions, biomarkers are being considered as objective assessment tools in addition to the subjective assessment tools. It has been thought that salivary α-amylase (sAA) activity is associated with sympathetic nervous system activity, which reflects psychological stress. We examined the relationship between sAA, self-reported data, and autonomic nervous system activity to assess the reliability of sAA as a marker for relaxing response in surgery-related stress. The sAA, the State anxiety, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) of pain, and heart rate variability were used to assess prior to and after the relaxation on the day before surgery, and on postoperative days (POD) 1, 2, 3, and 7. A total of 75 patients participated and 301 relaxing response readings were obtained. We found that the sAA significantly decreased depending upon the pain and anxiety by relaxation, but they were unrelated to sympathetic nervous system activity. There was weak correlation between the change in sAA, and anxiety and VAS pain. Thus, sAA appears to be an easy-to-use, non-invasive and good marker for relaxing response within a short period in surgery-related stress patients.
Relaxation technique training to alleviate emotional stress in patients with chronic pain: A report of two cases  [PDF]

Aim: Chronic pain can leads to uncomfortable sensory and emotional experiences and remarkably decrease one’s quality of life. The purpose of this report is to describe our experience of treatment with relaxation techniques for two outpatients with chronic pain-related emotional stress. Methods: We offer outpatient relaxation treatment as a specialized out-patient nursing service. Two patients were motivated to self-manage their pain, and thus sought outpatient instruction in relaxation techniques to provide methods of pain self-management. We examined the usefulness of relaxation techniques as pain self-management methods based on subjective information and the Mental Health Pattern questionnaire. Results: Two patients were able to incorporate the relaxation techniques into their daily schedules and control their symptoms. Ultimately, their attitudes toward their pain changed, which lessened their stress levels and improved their quality of life. Conclusions: Our results suggest that nursing care using continuous relaxation techniques improves pain self-management in patients with chronic pain.
Spontaneous emission inhibition of telecom-band quantum disks inside single nanowire on different substrates

Abstract: We investigate the inhibited spontaneous emission of telecom-band InAs quantum disks (Qdisks) in InP nanowires (NWs). We have evaluated how the inhibition is affected by different disk diameter and thickness. We also compared the inhibition in standing InP NWs and those NWs laying on silica (SiO2), and silicon (Si) substrates. We found that the inhibition is altered when we put the NW on the high-refractive index materials of Si. Experimentally, the inhibition factor $\zeta$ of the Qdisk emission at 1,500 nm decreases from 4.6 to 2.5 for NW on SiO2 and Si substrates, respectively. Those inhibitions are even much smaller than that of 6.4 of the standing NW. The inhibition factors well agree with those calculated from the coupling of the Qdisk to the fundamental guided mode and the continuum of radiative modes. Our observation can be useful for the integration of the NW as light sources in the photonic nanodevices.
Design for ultrahigh-Q position-controlled nanocavities of single semiconductor nanowires in 2D photonic crystals

Abstract: Using Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) simulation, we show that ultrahigh- Q nanocavities can be obtained through the manipulation of a single semiconductor nanowire (NW) inside a slot in a line defect of a two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal. By controlling the design and its lattice parameters of the photonic crystal, we have achieved a quality factor Q larger than 106 and a mode volume Vc smaller than 0.11 {\mu}m3 (1.25 of a cubic wavelength in the NW) for a cavity peak in the telecommunication band. This design is useful for realizing a position-controlled cavity in a photonic crystal. Here we also discuss the small dependence of the Qfactor, the Vc, and the cavity peak in relation to the position of the NWinside the slot and the potential application to the cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) using the embedded-emitter NW.

Abstract: This text is a small adaptation of our Master-degree’s dissertation, which had telework performed in Brazilian homes as its main goal. The research as a whole focused on both sociological and legal analyses of the aspects of telework, regarding flexible work schedules, legislation on distance work, hierarchical relationships, space and time organization of work utilizing telematic means, as well as perceptions of the actors involved with this activity. In this paper, the legal aspects of telework in Brazil will be emphasized.
Movable high Q nanoresonators realized by semiconductor nanowires on a Si photonic crystal platform

Abstract: Subwavelength semiconductor nanowires have recently attracted interest for photonic applications because they possess various unique optical properties and offer great potential for miniaturizing devices. However, realizing tight light confinement or efficient coupling with photonic circuits is not straightforward and remains a challenge. Here we show that a high Q nanocavity can be created by placing a single III/V semiconductor nanowire with a diameter of under 100 nm in a grooved waveguide in a Si photonic crystal, by means of nanoprobe manipulation. We observe very fast spontaneous emission (91 ps) from nanowires accelerated by the strong Purcell enhancement in nanocavities, which proves that very strong light confinement can be achieved. Furthermore, this system enables us to move the nanocavity anywhere along the waveguide. This configuration provides a significant degree of flexibility in integrated photonics and permits the addition and displacement of various functionalities of III/V nanocavity devices in Si photonic circuits.
Fast Purcell-enhanced single photon source in 1,550-nm telecom band from a resonant quantum dot-cavity coupling

Abstract: High-bit-rate nanocavity-based single photon sources in the 1,550-nm telecom band are challenges facing the development of fibre-based long-haul quantum communication networks. Here we report a very fast single photon source in the 1,550-nm telecom band, which is achieved by a large Purcell enhancement that results from the coupling of a single InAs quantum dot and an InP photonic crystal nanocavity. At a resonance, the spontaneous emission rate was enhanced by a factor of 5 resulting a record fast emission lifetime of 0.2 ns at 1,550 nm. We also demonstrate that this emission exhibits an enhanced anti-bunching dip. This is the first realization of nanocavity-enhanced single photon emitters in the 1,550-nm telecom band. This coupled quantum dot cavity system in the telecom band thus provides a bright high-bit-rate non-classical single photon source that offers appealing novel opportunities for the development of a long-haul quantum telecommunication system via optical fibres.

Abstract: O artigo teve o objetivo de investigar a produ o de subjetividade com base nas atuais tecnologias da informa o, em particular do diário virtual. A fundamenta o teórica da pesquisa levou em conta os enfoques de autores contemporaneos sobre o assunto, apostando numa perspectiva ontogenética, no tocante às rela es homem/técnica. Nesse enfoque, destaca-se um processo de produ o da subjetividade, no qual esta é efeito de conex es heterogêneas que articulam humanos e n o humanos. Assim, a subjetividade é considerada como um dos efeitos da media o técnica. A pesquisa de campo foi realizada com 10 sujeitos de diferentes cidades do Brasil. Para coletar dados, foi utilizado o questionário semi-estruturado. Os resultados indicam que o diário virtual produz novas formas de subjetividade, de amizades e de rela es pessoais.
