Cariotipos de Liolaemus quilmes y Liolaemus wiegmannii y comparación con otros taxones del grupo boulengeri

Abstract: the chromosomes of liolaemus quilmes (2n= 32), not previously shown, and the karyotype of l. wiegmannii (2n= 32), which differs from other references, are reported. two specimens from each species were studied. metaphases from bone marrow and intestinal epithelial were obtained. both lizards show the same chromosomal morphology, which consists of six pairs of metacentric (m) and submetacentric (sm) macrochromosomes, microchromosome number (#) 7 with acrocentric-telocentric morphology (a-t) and microchromosomes #8 and 9 with m-sm morphology, the rest of microchromosomes are punctiforms. l. quilmes microchromosomes # 7, 8 and 9 are 21% bigger than l. wiegmanni ones. in the present cytogenetic development of the genera this is the only difference of the karyotype between both species. the other species of the boulengeri group with cytogenetic studies reported have 2n= 28, 32, 34 and 36. only l. riojanus shows 2n= 32 like l. quilmes and l. wiegmannii but with morphologic and chromosome length differences in the first three pairs of microchromosomes # 7, 8 y 9. it is recognize the importance of these pairs in the inter-specific differences among the group.

Abstract: Se describe el cariotipo de Liolaemus quilmes (2n= 32), que no estaba mostrado previamente, y el de Liolaemus wiegmannii (2n= 32), que difiere de otros informes para la especie obtenidos a partir de animales geográficamente muy distantes de los estudiados en este trabajo. Se analizaron metafases de médula ósea y epitelio intestinal de dos ejemplares de cada especie. Ambas presentan la morfología deseis pares de macrocromosomas metacéntricos (M) y submetacéntricos (SM), el par de microcromosomas número (#)7 con morfología acrocéntrico-telocéntrico (A-T) y los microcromosomas #8 y 9 con morfología M-SM, el resto de los microcromosomas son puntiformes. Los pares #7, 8 y 9 de L. quilmes son en promedio un 21% más grandes que los de L. wiegmannii y en este punto del desarrollo citogenético alcanzado para el género es la única característica que a nivel de cariotipo permite diferenciar ambas especies. Las otras especies del grupo boulengeri con estudios citogenéticos efectuados presentan cariotipos con 2n= 28, 32, 34 y 36. Solamente L. riojanus presenta 2n= 32 al igual que L. quilmes y L. wiegmannii, pero con diferencias morfológicas y de longitud cromosómica en los tres primeros pares de microcromosomas (pares #7, 8 y 9). Se destaca la importancia de estos tres pares decromosomas para las diferencias interespecíficas dentro del grupo.
Citogenética de los lagartos del género Liolaemus (Iguania: Liolaemidae) de América del Sur

Abstract: Los lagartos del género Liolaemus se distribuyen desde las altas cordilleras de Perú y Bolivia en el norte hasta el extremo austral de América del Sur. Se analizan los cariotipos descriptos para las 55 especies de Liolaemus con análisis citogenético reportado, que están incluidos en la clasificación de Etheridge (1995), como grupos chiliensis, signifer, montanus, boulengeri y wiegmanni. Los objetivos de este trabajo fueron: (1) analizar y comparar la composición citogenética de las mismas, (2) revalorizar la participación de la citogenética en la resolución de confusiones taxonómicas dentro del género, (3) obtener caracteres citogenéticos para análisis filo- genéticos, (4) plantear inferencias sobre su evolución cromosómica y pautas apropiadas para el trabajo citogenético en el género. La configuración cromosómica diploide varía desde 2n= 28 para L. uspallatensis a 2n= 44 para L. monticola monticola, comúnmente formada por 6 pares de macrocromosomas de morfología metacéntrica o submetacéntrica y 16 a 32 microcromosomas. El estudio de las figuras meióticas en especies con microcromosomas es aconsejable porque permite definir con mayor certeza el número diploide. La revisión de las publicaciones pone de manifiesto que las bandas C no son informativas para este género. Se analizan ejemplos sobre los aportes de la caracterización citogenética de las especies a la diagnosis, como el complejo darwini , especies del grupo chiliensis y casos de simpatría. Se propone para el género Liolaemus, una serie de doce caracteres citogenéticos para ser incorporados a futuros estudios filogenéticos. En el grupo boulengeri el aumento de microcromosomas por fisiones céntricas sería la principal característica en la evolución cromosómica del grupo. Se advierte que el conocimiento acabado de cada especie y las relaciones entre las especies del género no es sencillo y sólo será posible con el trabajo interdisciplinario de taxónomos, genetistas y sistemáticos. The genus Liolaemus is distributed from Peru and Bolivia mountains to the austral zone in South America. It were reviewed the karyotypes reported for the genera, 55 species which belonged to the groups chiliensis, signifer, montanus, boulengeri and wiegmanni classified by Etheridge (1995). Abstract: a preview genotoxic biomonitoring was carried out from a random sample in workers daily exposed to pesticides. soy bean cultivation is the main activity of these rural workers from córdoba. the total chromosomal aberrations (ca)/100 cells in the exposed group was 11.50±4.33 and 7.71±3.45 including and excluding gaps respectively, statistically different (p<0.05) from the reference group (5.25±2.77 and 2.58±1.83). the most commonly pesticides used by the exposed group were glyphosate, cipermetrine and atrazine. the total amount of aberrant cells in the exposed group was 11.21±3.87 and 7.50±3.00 including and excluding gaps respectively, statistically different (p<0.05) from the reference group (5.08±2.71 and 2.58±1.83 ). these findings showed the risk factor that represents pesticides exposure to human health in the studied group, compared with the reference group.
Reproductive Parameters of the Dogo Argentino Bitch

Abstract: The Dogo Argentino (DA) is the first and only breed from Argentina recognized worldwide. Although its morphologic features have been well established, its normal reproductive parameters are not clearly known. The aim of this study was to determine the main DA bitch reproductive parameters. One hundred and forty-nine surveys were obtained from breeders from Córdoba province, Argentina: one for each intact DA bitch from 1 to 14 years old. The DA bitch reached puberty at an average of 8.93 months. The mean duration of vulval bleeding found in this study was 11.11 days. The clinical signs characteristic for proestrous-estrous were vulval edema (89.93%), bleeding during the time of mating (32.21%), holding the tail to the side (95.30%), and docility during mating (85.91%). DA bitches had a whelping rate of 84%. Out of 299 pregnancies, 89.30% exhibited a normal parturition, 6.69% presented dystocia, 2.68% needed Cesarean section, and 1.34% aborted. In conclusion, the reproductive parameters of the DA bitch are similar to those identified for other large breeds. DA often showed a prolonged vulval bleeding longer than proestrus. Its high whelping rate, its low incidence of dystocia, and its good maternal ability define the DA as a good reproductive breed with normal reproductive functions. 1. Introduction The Dogo Argentino (DA) is so far the only breed from Argentina recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (1973). Even though it is known as a big-game hunting dog, it is now also used as companion and guard dog. Its morphologic features have been very well established; however, its normal reproductive parameters are not clearly known. This knowledge is essential to achieve a proper reproductive management, to determine the ideal time of mating or artificial insemination, to avoid unwanted pregnancies, to estimate whelping date, and to diagnose many pathologies. Domestic dogs are monoestrous and typically nonseasonal breeders, with large individual and breed-specific variations [1]. They reach puberty variably at 6 to 14 months of age, with means positively correlated with breed size [2]. The average of the interestrous interval is 6 months, it ranges from 4 to 12 months depending on breed, age, and individual [3]. The proestrous duration is highly variable, from 6 to 11 days, with an average of 9 days [4]. This stage is characterized by male attraction, nonreceptive bitches, and vulval bleeding. Abstract: in the present study, the antioxidant capacity of vitamin c was examined in the liver and the kidney tissues of mice with or without ciprofloxacin (cfx) treatment. the antioxidant capacity of the vitamin was evaluated in terms of lipid hydroperoxides (looh) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (tbars). the experimental design was 15 days of water (control and cfx groups) or vitamin c (vitamin c and vitamin c plus cfx groups) in drinking water. one dose of cfx was injected, 15 minutes before sacrifice, in the corresponding mice. the initial nmol of lipid hydroperoxides/g of tissue were 137 ± 11 in the kidney and 145 ± 15 in the liver, and the nmol of tbars were 13 ± 0.7 and 12 ± 0.6, respectively. pre-treatment with vitamin c reduced the levels of looh in the liver to 45 ± 11 (p<0.01) and vitamin c with cfx injection to 54 ± 9 (p<0.01). vitamin c treatment also reduced the looh levels in the kidney roughly duplicated by cfx. through the tbars method we have not observed these effects. quantification of looh is more sensitive than that of tbars for estimating lipid peroxidation. cfx is used especially for urinary infections and can produce oxidative stress in the kidney. pre-treatment with vitamin c may ameliorate this stress and also may improve the oxidative balance in the liver.

Residuos de enrofloxacina y ciprofloxacina en músculo de pollos parrilleros

Abstract: fluoroquinolones are antimicrobials of intensive usage in veterinary medicine. in our country enrofloxacin is employed in poultry and pig production. ciprofloxacin, the mayor metabolite of enrofloxacin, is a useful resource in human medicine and one alternative for farm animals. both antimicrobials were simultaneously detected in muscle of chickens naturally infected with mycoplasma synoviae and administrated with enrofloxacin or ciprofloxacin (5mg/kg/12h oral) for 5 days. the purpose of this work was to determine the adequate slaughter moment of the animals, with good clinical conditions and acceptable residue levels. the animals were sacrificed at 5 times after treatment. the samples (200 mg) were homogenized in phosphate buffer, and extracted twice with dichloromethane. the fluoroquinolones were detected by high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection at 295 nm excitation and 500 nm emission. the concentration of enrofloxacin residues was maximal at 24 h after treatment (0.073 + 0.006 ìg/ g) and was lower than the maximal limit levels established by international regulations (0.3 ìg/g). in ciprofloxacin administrated animals the superior concentration of the antimicrobial in muscle was 72 h after treatment with 0.027 + 0.015 ìg/g. the consumers and the authorities must be concern about the control of veterinary residues in different products and edible tissues of farm animals.
Mixed ladder determinantal varieties from two-sided ladders

Abstract: We study the family of ideals defined by mixed size minors of two-sided ladders of indeterminates. We compute their Groebner bases with respect to a skew-diagonal monomial order, then we use them to compute the height of the ideals. We show that these ideals correspond to a family of irreducible projective varieties, that we call mixed ladder determinantal varieties. We show that these varieties are arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay. We characterize the arithmetically Gorenstein ones, among those that satisfy a technical condition. Our main result consists in proving that mixed ladder determinantal varieties belong to the same G-biliaison class of a linear variety.
A generalized Gaeta's Theorem

Abstract: We generalize Gaeta's Theorem to the family of determinantal schemes. In other words, we show that the schemes defined by minors of a fixed size of a matrix with polynomial entries belong to the same G-biliaison class of a complete intersection whenever they have maximal possible codimension, given the size of the matrix and of the minors that define them.
