Abstract: Experimental and clinical studies have shown that long term anticoagulation therapy with warfarin can induce vascular calcification which is preventable by vitamin K. Osteoporosis has been shown to be associated with vascular calcification. In the present study, we wanted to see, whether INR (International Normalized Ratio), a measure of prothrombin time, and serum calcium (corrected by albumin) correlate in laboratory data of 94 anticoagulation patients on warfarin therapy. When adjusted on age and sex, there was an inverse correlation between the two variables. Clinical relevance of this observation and explanation of lowered calcium levels in blood parallel to increase in INR-values remain to be studied further.
Constrained speaker linking

Computer Science , 2014,
Abstract: In this paper we study speaker linking (a.k.a.\ partitioning) given constraints of the distribution of speaker identities over speech recordings. Specifically, we show that the intractable partitioning problem becomes tractable when the constraints pre-partition the data in smaller cliques with non-overlapping speakers. The surprisingly common case where speakers in telephone conversations are known, but the assignment of channels to identities is unspecified, is treated in a Bayesian way. We show that for the Dutch CGN database, where this channel assignment task is at hand, a lightweight speaker recognition system can quite effectively solve the channel assignment problem, with 93% of the cliques solved. We further show that the posterior distribution over channel assignment configurations is well calibrated.
The distribution of calibrated likelihood-ratios in speaker recognition

Computer Science , 2013,
Abstract: This paper studies properties of the score distributions of calibrated log-likelihood-ratios that are used in automatic speaker recognition. We derive the essential condition for calibration that the log likelihood ratio of the log-likelihood-ratio is the log-likelihood-ratio. We then investigate what the consequence of this condition is to the probability density functions (PDFs) of the log-likelihood-ratio score. We show that if the PDF of the non-target distribution is Gaussian, then the PDF of the target distribution must be Gaussian as well. The means and variances of these two PDFs are interrelated, and determined completely by the discrimination performance of the recognizer characterized by the equal error rate. These relations allow for a new way of computing the offset and scaling parameters for linear calibration, and we derive closed-form expressions for these and show that for modern i-vector systems with PLDA scoring this leads to good calibration, comparable to traditional logistic regression, over a wide range of system performance.

Tehran University Medical Journal , 2013,
Abstract: Background: Primary cutaneous lymphoma is separated into two groups, cutaneous lymphoma (CTCL) and cutaneous B-CELL Lymphoma (CBCL). This study was performed to classify histopathologically and define demographic features of Persian patients with primary cutaneous lymphoma. Methods: Twenty hundred and thirty four patients with primary cutaneous lymphoma who have been referred to Razi Hospital in Tehran, Iran during at four year period (October 2005 to October 2009), were investigated in this study. The data were gathered by reviewing their medical records andexaminedagain extant evidence andhistology slides. Results: Among 234 Patients, the only clinical feature that could be assessed was itching. The most common involves location of disease was generalized. 189 (80.77%) cases of the patients had CTCL and 45 (19.23%) cases of the patients had CBCL. Age of patients with two lymphoma type were similar at the this time of diagnosis. Sex supremacy was with men in two groups. Conclusion: This study provides histopathologic classification and demographic data.

Abstract: A simple apparatus using solar radiation that is essential for people in tropical area like Indonesia is called solar collector. A solar collector can be applied to heat air which can be used to dry some crops or agricultural products. One of some effort to improve the solar collector performance is using a v-corrugated absorber plate or installing slats in a honeycomb shape over the absorber to reduce heat loss. This paper will describe the combination of both. From the research, it was found that a solar collector with v-corrugated absorber plate has its best performance when the velocity of air is 0.5 m/s with aspect ratio H/L = 3/1. The performance includes the collector efficiency and the increase temperature of air flowing through the collector.
The Fastest Saccadic Responses Escape Visual Masking

Abstract: Object-substitution masking (OSM) occurs when a briefly presented target in a search array is surrounded by small dots that remain visible after the target disappears. The reduction of target visibility occurring after OSM has been suggested to result from a specific interference with reentrant visual processing while the initial feedforward processing is thought to be left intact. We tested a prediction derived from this hypothesis: the fastest responses, being triggered before the beginning of reentrant processing, should escape the OSM interference. In a saccadic choice reaction time task, which gives access to very early stages of visual processing, target visibility was reduced either by OSM, conventional backward masking, or low stimulus contrast. A general reduction of performance was observed in all three conditions. However, the fastest saccades did not show any sign of interference under either OSM or backward masking, as they did under the low-contrast condition. This finding supports the hypothesis that masking interferes mostly with reentrant processing at later stages, while leaving early feedforward processing largely intact.
Food-pics: an image database for experimental research on eating and appetite

Frontiers in Psychology , 2014, DOI: 10.3389/fpsyg.2014.00617
Abstract: Our current environment is characterized by the omnipresence of food cues. The sight and smell of real foods, but also graphically depictions of appetizing foods, can guide our eating behavior, for example, by eliciting food craving and influencing food choice. The relevance of visual food cues on human information processing has been demonstrated by a growing body of studies employing food images across the disciplines of psychology, medicine, and neuroscience. However, currently used food image sets vary considerably across laboratories and image characteristics (contrast, brightness, etc.) and food composition (calories, macronutrients, etc.) are often unspecified. These factors might have contributed to some of the inconsistencies of this research. To remedy this, we developed food-pics, a picture database comprising 568 food images and 315 non-food images along with detailed meta-data. A total of N = 1988 individuals with large variance in age and weight from German speaking countries and North America provided normative ratings of valence, arousal, palatability, desire to eat, recognizability and visual complexity. Furthermore, data on macronutrients (g), energy density (kcal), and physical image characteristics (color composition, contrast, brightness, size, complexity) are provided. The food-pics image data base is freely available under the creative commons license with the hope that the set will facilitate standardization and comparability across studies and advance experimental research on the determinants of eating behavior.

Abstract: 1.
Representability of Aut_F and End_F
Niko Naumann
Mathematics , 2003,
Abstract: Recently N. Nitsure showed that for a coherent sheaf F on a noetherian scheme the automorphism functor Aut_F is representable if and only if F is locally free. Here we remove the noetherian hypothesis and show that the same result holds for the endomorphism functor End_F even if one asks for representability by an algebraic space.
Singularities of ball quotients
Niko Behrens
Mathematics , 2010,
Abstract: We prove a result on the singularities of ball quotients $\Gamma\backslash\CC H^n$. More precisely, we show that a ball quotient has canonical singularities under certain restrictions on the dimension $n$ and the underlying lattice. We also extend this result to the toroidal compactification $(\Gamma\backslash\CC H^n)^*$.
