Nicoletti,María Andrea;
Universum (Talca) , 2006, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-23762006000100005
Abstract: in this work we analyze the patagonia in the scholar books of geography belonging to the salesians (beginning of the xxth century). we observe this territorial construction as reflex and refraction of the social and political interests. about the treatment of these contents and the structuring we can see this region just in the difficult historical process of the incorporation to the nation. the congregation incorporates in these books, with official programs, information that denotes a special knowledge of the region in the different editions. these books reflect the national vision on the territories and describe the patagonia with images that show the civilization, the no-civilization, the unexplored land, the beauty and the wealth, against the unfertility and the dryness. the notes in the text bring us information about patagonia with productive potential and national future, capturing even the opinion of his inhabitants and the salesians.
Complications during minimally invasive knee surgery
P. Adravanti,S. Nicoletti
Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology , 2007, DOI: 10.1007/s10195-007-0173-x
Abstract: Since their advent, minimally invasive surgical techniques have achieved good results in knee arthroplasty, earning the approval of many orthopaedic surgeons. The advantages offered by this type of surgery are the respect of the extensor system, early functional recovery and reduced pain. As always in surgery, in order to obtain such results, various problems have been tackled, some of which have now been overcome thanks to the new instruments that are better suited to restricted incisions, whereas others still cause significant complications. The excessive forces exercised on the soft tissues and patella can damage the tissues despite the less invasive incision. All the statistics provided by surgeons who most frequently use these techniques show complications due to the use of a minimally invasive technique that can be avoided with the standard techniques, which have given outstanding results for a long time. Above all, implantation accuracy appears to be reduced through a small incision. The highest complication rates are reported in the quadriceps-sparing technique, which does not allow a perfect view of the joint. In this review, we highlight the possible complications associated with this “new” surgical approach, which still requires further evolution in order to achieve the same results as the standard technique.

In this work we analyze the Patagonia in the scholar books of Geography belonging to the Salesians (beginning of the XXth century). We observe this territorial construction as reflex and refraction of the social and political interests. About the treatment of these contents and the structuring we can see this region just in the difficult historical process of the incorporation to the Nation.

Health (Health) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/health.2014.62024
Abstract: Understanding local susceptibility patterns is important when selecting antimicrobials for initial empirical antibiotic-therapy of bloodstream infections. Because the determination of susceptibility is dependent on the breakpoints used, the aim of the study was to compare the antimicrobial susceptibility results to different classes of antibiotics of 512 strains of Enterobacteriaceae (200 ESβL positive) isolated from bloodstream using CLSI 2013 and current EUCAST 2013 guidelines to evaluate the impact of break-point discrepancies. The results of the study showed that statistically significant discrepancies (p ≤ 0.001) were found for amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, piperacillin alone or with tazobac-tam, imipenem, meropenem, cefepime (only ESβL negative isolates), amikacin and gentamicin using current CLSI or EUCAST interpretive criteria. Further harmonization of CLSI and EUCAST breakpoints is warranted. This study could give useful information to physicians for managing bloodstream infections caused by Enterobacteriaceae.
Self-Identification Algorithm for the Autonomous Control of Lateral Vibration in Flexible Rotors
Thiago Malta Buttini,Rodrigo Nicoletti
International Journal of Rotating Machinery , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/873645
Abstract: Intelligent machines are capable of recognizing their operational condition and take actions towards optimality through an autonomous processing of information. Considering the importance of rotating machines in modern industry, this concept of intelligent machines can be applied to achieve high availability, thus avoiding interruptions in the production flow. In this work, a self-identification algorithm is proposed for the autonomous decision and control of a flexible shaft rotating system with electromagnetic actuators. Based on the D-decomposition technique, the algorithm searches in the domain of controller gains the best ones for P and PD controllers to reduce maximum peak response of the shaft. For that, frequency response functions of the system are automatically identified experimentally by the algorithm. It is demonstrated that regions of stable gains can be easily plotted, and the most suitable gains can be found to minimize the resonant peak of the system in an autonomous way, without human intervention. 1. Introduction According to [1], an intelligent machine is capable of recognizing its operational condition and takes actions towards optimality through an internal and autonomous processing of information. This can be understood as a system able to adapt and learn from plant data and assure the desired dynamic behavior of the plant under any disturbance and/or change in its inner characteristics [2]. In the last decades, actuators and sensors have been incorporated into rotating machines aiming at attenuating and controlling the vibration levels, especially those presented by the shaft [3–6]. In such cases, the actuators can also be used as exciters, and open-loop frequency response of the system can be identified. Such frequency response would contain information from the actuator system + rotating system/bearings + sensor system that can be used to find the best gains for the controller. Therefore, if all this process (identification of plant FRFs and determination of optimum gains) is automatically managed by an algorithm, as proposed in the present work, one would achieve the definition of intelligent machines stated by [1]: a machine that can identify its characteristics (self-identification) and take actions towards optimality (search for optimum gains). In the area of active magnetic bearings (AMBs), much has been done in this direction by the development of adaptive control systems. In most cases, the conventional control system, responsible for rotor levitation, is complemented by an additional adaptive algorithm, responsible for
