Applied Medical Informatics , 2012,
Abstract: Purpose: many studies in experimental models have evidenced the presence of inflammation in venous vascular dysfunction and the implication of TNF-α in vascular pathology, through its prooxidant and proinflammatory effect. Starting from these studies, we experimentally investigated the effect of treatment with a TNF-α inhibitor, etanercept, on the oxidant/antioxidant balance in rats, with the partial obstruction of the common femoral vein. Methods: the researches were carried out in 7 groups of animals (n=10 rats/group), 6 groups undergoing surgery and a control group. In 3 groups, the ligation of the common femoral vein was performed (groups 1, 2, 3), 3 groups underwent the ligation of the common femoral vein and received etanercept (groups 4, 5, 6), in a dose of 1 mg/kg, one dose per week, according to data found in literature. The serum indicators of the O/AO balance were determined: indicators for oxidative stress (malondialdehyde (MDA), protein carbonyls (PC)), indicators for non-enzymatic AO defense (thiol groups (SH), hydrogen donors (HD ), glutathione (GSH)) at weeks 1, 2 and three. Results and Conclusions: chronic venous insufficiency with and without anti-TNF-α treatment induced changes in the oxidant/antioxidant balance compared to the control group; after the administration of the anti-TNF-α preparation, oxidative stress was maintained on account of MDA that increased significantly, and decreased significantly on account of PC compared to the untreated groups; after the administration of the anti-TNF-α preparation, at two and three weeks there was an insignificant increase in antioxidant defense on account of HD and GSH compared to the untreated groups; the administered anti-TNF-α preparation had late and insignificant effects in chronic venous insufficiency.
Influence of Acute Ozone Exposure on the Tissue Oxidant/Antioxidant Balance in Physical Exercise

Applied Medical Informatics , 2012,
Abstract: Aims: The influence of acute ozone (O3) exposure on the tissue oxidant/antioxidant (O/AO) balance in the brain, myocardium, lungs and striated muscles was studied at rest and during exercise. Material and Methods: The research was performed in 3 groups of white male Wistar rats with a weight of 280-300 g: Group I – control group, sedentary rats under normoxia conditions; Group II – sedentary rats, acutely exposed to O3; Group III – animals acutely exposed to O3, followed by exercise under normoxia conditions. The rats were exposed to ozone for 3 days, 5 min/day. Group III was trained daily for 3 days under normoxia conditions by the swimming test. In order to determine the indicators of the oxidant/antioxidant balance, tissue samples from the brain, myocardium, lungs and quadriceps muscle of the anesthetized animals were taken. On the third day the following were measured: malondialdehyde (MDA), protein carbonyls (PC), hydrogen donor capacity (HD) and total sulfhydryl (thiol) group content (SH). Results: Between the indicators of the tissue O/AO balance, significant correlations were evidenced in the brain, myocardium, lungs and muscles. Conclusions: Acute combined stress through O3 pre-exposure and exercise causes OS on account of PC in the brain, myocardium and muscles, a decrease in AO defense capacity on account of HD in the brain, lungs and muscles, and an increase in AO defense capacity in the myocardium.
On the Fundamental Equations of Electromagnetism in Finslerian Spacetimes

PIER , 2011, DOI: 10.2528/PIER10122108
Abstract: In spaces with Finslerian geometry, the metric tensor depends on the directional variable, which leads to a dependence on this variable of the electromagnetic tensor and of the 4-potential. In this paper, we investigate some of the consequences of this fact, regarding the basic notions and equations of classical electromagnetic field theory.
Can Historical Institutionalism Explain the Reforms of the Common Agricultural Policy?
Nicoleta L??an
Romanian Journal of European Affairs (RJEA) , 2012,
Abstract: Historical institutionalism, one of the three variants of new institutionalism, has been largely employed by scholars to explain the development of one of the first policies developed at the European level, namely the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Due to historical institutionalism’s claim that policies tend to follow the path set at their creation, it is not surprising that it could easily account for the development of the CAP before 1990s since this was one of the most resistant policies set by the member states of the European Union. The main challenge for historical institutionalism is to explain the shifts that occurred in this policy due to the reforms agreed after 1990, reforms that are often mentioned in the literature as being crucial. The aim of this paper is to show that historical institutionalism can accommodate the 1992 and 2003 reforms of the Common Agricultural Policy, and from this we can infer that the changes needed to adapt this policy of the EU to the conditions of an ever enlarging Europe will take place slowly, if at all.
DIMENSION OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT
NICOLETA ISAC
Lucr?ri ?tiin?ifice : Management Agricol , 2009,
Abstract: The quality and reliability of our food supply depends on the economic, political and social conditions of the agricultural sector and the state of our rural environment. Rural areas provide vital natural resources to urban centers, such as freshwater, timber, or biomass. These resources are becoming increasingly important - either because of their scarcity, or due to their special relevance for sustainable development.
EVALUAREA POTEN IALULUI DE ATRACTIVITATE I REGIONAREA TURISTIC A RII ZARANDULUI

Geographia Napocensis , 2008,
Abstract: Evaluation of the Attractive Potential and Tourism Regionalization of the Land of Zarand. The Land of Zarand represents a well-structured territorial system, in which the tourist component appears as relevant. The author assesses the natural and the anthropic potential of the region, assigning values to each objective, and obtaining, thus, their value hierarchy. In the end, the spatial grouping of the objectives allows the delimitation of three tourist zones, each of them having its own attractive particularities and its own perspectives of future development.

Geographia Napocensis , 2008,
Abstract: Tourist Potential of the Z rand Land. Z rand Land represents one of Romania’s most representative system-regions. Its tourism potential is made up by highly diverse natural and anthropogenic sites of interest. Among the natural sites, one may include gorges, canyons, caves, steep slopes: mineral and thermal waters, elements of vegetation and animals for hunting and fishing. The anthropogenic sites are represented by: fortresses, wooden or stone churches, museums, monuments, traditions, customs, handicrafts, folklore and folk architecture. One should note the low degree of tourism planning and valorization of these sites.

Geographia Napocensis , 2009,
Abstract: The Land of Z rand as Metal Spatial Projection. The physical support of the Z rand mental space is represented by the morphology of the region, by the forestry domain (generator of a special type of behaviour and of peculiar occupations), by the mining activity (especially the one related to the gold-bearing veins) and by the historical events that led to the heroic mythology. The stages in the development of the Land of Z rand into an open mental space took place gradually based on the transfer of influence from the Z rand Fortress towards the interior of the mountains, towards the future settlements with role of central place, namely Baia de Cri and Brad.
SMEs’ COMMUNICATION IN THE ROMANIAN BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT – A PREMISE OF ECONOMIC PERFORMANCES’ IMPROVEMENT FOR THE INTEGRATION INTO THE EUROPEAN UNION STRUCTURES
Nicoleta CRISTACHE
Management & Marketing , 2006,
Abstract: The sector of small and medium-sized enterprises is considered to besensitive to the transformations of the market and legislation, to the Stateinterventions, and will be certainly affected by Romania’s accession to theEU structures. Most of the Romanian companies are closed, traditionalenterprises, having conservative stock-holding structures, characterized byinability of communication, lack of transparence, and servile attitude towardsauthorities. In conclusion, the preparation of the Romanian economy for theaccession to the European Union must be regarded more as a process ofinternal rather than of foreign policy, a process in which the phenomenon ofcommunication plays an important part. The cooperation with the civil societyand mass-media is essential and must represent a priority for the Romanianenterprising.
Assessing Discount Rate for a Project Financed Entirely with Equity Capital
Nicoleta Vintila
Theoretical and Applied Economics , 2007,
Abstract: Estimating discount rate for an investment project is one of the most challenging tasks incapital budgeting. In this paper we discuss different kind of models for cost of equity capital proposed infinance literature (static CAPM, conditional CAPM, APT, build-up model), focusing especially on advantagesand disadvantages of using each of them. In the final section, we estimate the discount rate fora certain project financed entirely with equity capital, using a version of build-up model.
