Modelos eclesiais. Educa o. Abstract During the period of time in which the Catholic Church experienced a process known as Romanization, there began to emerge Catholic colleges and universities in Brazil. Once having received the adjective Catholic, these institutions of higher education demanded of the ecclesiastic apparatus the allocation of the most varied resources, because the attributed qualification was accompanied by the expectancy of a specific performance inside the most ample process of Romanization. This article aims at accosting the ecclesiastic context of the time and, in it, the Churche’s understanding of its relationship with Recife’s society, taking as bias the acts of the Catholic University of Pernambuco (UNICAP) in the city and its correspondence to the established scenario. To write it, the author revised the literature and research in the archives of the UNICAP itself and of the vice-province of Northern Brazil of the Society of Jesus; furthermore, he analyzed the oral testimony of former students and teachers. The analysis undertaken allows us to affirm that during its initial steps the university fulfilled the exigencies made for being Catholic, if this term was being understood as being in tune with the ecclesiastic model predominant in the Church at the time and the role corresponding to it. Abstract: infections caused by nontuberculous mycobacteria (mnt) represent an epidemiological and health emergency, especially in patients undergoing invasive procedures. based on these, we aimed to analyze the scientific evidence, the scientific literature, on the occurrence in brazil of mnt infections in surgical patients. we used as a research method integrative review of the literature using the databases lilacs, medline/pubmed, isi web of science and the cochrane library. we selected 15 publications on this theme from the last 30 years that were directed at methods of prevention and control, with a focus on post-discharge surveillance, the use of antibiotics and glutaraldehyde. eye surgery, cosmetic, heart, laparoscopic and arthroscopic procedures were the most commonly investigated. the national situation of mnts is concerning, especially when one recognizes the possibility of underreporting.
Ruptura aneurismática intraoperatória junto ao colo: sugest?o de manuseio cirúrgico
Andrade, Guilherme Cabral de;Braga, Fernando Menezes;
Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-282X2002000400030
Abstract: the per operative rupture of the aneurysm during dissection impairs the delicate microsurgical procedure and increases the risk of a bad evolution for the patient. during operation the aneurysm generally ruptures in its belly but it could happen just in its colon, between the main vessel and the sac. this brings a serious problem to the neurosurgeon once the placement of a clip at this place will increase the bleeding. our technical suggestion is to perform the clipage over a small piece of temporal muscle gently placed over the hole of bleeding after temporary clipage. this is a very simple procedure but very useful that must be reminded in such cases. we did not found a similar description in the main books and articles related with intraoperative aneurysm rupture.

Brazilian Journal of Microbiology , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-83822000000300009
Abstract: enteroinvasive escherichia coli strains (eiec) of different serotypes isolated from patients with acute diarrhea were examined for the ability to produce siderophores and iron-regulated outer membrane proteins (iromp). for iron starvation cultures were grown at 37°c in lb supplied with 200 mm of a-a?dypirydil. all strains produced enterobactin and twelve (40%) produced aerobactin. the strains showed iromp varying from 67-82 kda. proteins were either induced or stimulated by the iron starvation. differences were observed in the electrophoretic profile among the serotypes, originating 5 electrophoretic profiles. all serotypes expressed proteins of 82 kda (fepa) and 76 kda (iuta) (except serotype o28ac:h- that did not produce the 76 kda protein). several strains (o29:h-, o144:h-, o152:h-, and o167:h-) expressed iuta in the outer membrane, in the absence of aerobactin production. additionally to well characterized proteins (fepa and iuta), we found two iromp of unknown function in some serotypes: a 71 kda protein was detected in three profiles and a 67 kda protein was present in serotype o152:h-. moreover, two bands (39 and 43 kda) which were not iron-regulated bound specifically to human lactoferrin.

Oliveira, Ricardo Vasques de;Ramos, Rodrigo Andrade;Bretas, Newton Geraldo;
Sba: Controle & Automa??o Sociedade Brasileira de Automatica , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-17592012000300007
Abstract: this work proposes a computational tool to assist power system engineers in the field tuning of power system stabilizers (psss) and automatic voltage regulators (avrs). the outcome of this tool is a range of gain values for theses controllers within which there is a theoretical guarantee of stability for the closed-loop system. this range is given as a set of limit values for the static gains of the controllers of interest, in such a way that the engineer responsible for the field tuning of psss and/or avrs can be confident with respect to system stability when adjusting the corresponding static gains within this range. this feature of the proposed tool is highly desirable from a practical viewpoint, since the pss and avr commissioning stage always involve some readjustment of the controller gains to account for the differences between the nominal model and the actual behavior of the system. by capturing these differences as uncertainties in the model, this computational tool is able to guarantee stability for the whole uncertain model using an approach based on linear matrix inequalities. it is also important to remark that the tool proposed in this paper can also be applied to other types of parameters of either psss or power oscillation dampers, as well as other types of controllers (such as speed governors, for example). to show its effectiveness, applications of the proposed tool to two benchmarks for small signal stability studies are presented at the end of this paper.

Abstract: the present paper proposes the application of robust control techniques for the development of a systematic design methodology of multiobjective controllers to damp low-frequency electromechanical oscillations in electric power systems. the control technique adopted considers the uncertainties regarding to the variations of the electric power system operating conditions. the imposition of an upper bound for the output energy of the closed loop system and the regional pole placement are used as design objectives in the proposed methodology. the upper bound for the output energy is proposed as a performance index in the design of damping controllers for power systems. the design methodology is structured to provide controllers that fulfill various practical requirements of the electromechanical oscillations problem in electric power systems. the presented results demonstrate the effectiveness of the designed controllers.

Combine or Separate Future Pain? The Impact of Current Pain on Decisions about Future Dental Treatments
Eduardo B. Andrade, Marco Aurélio Bianchini, Newton Lucchiari
PLOS ONE , 2013, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0064057
Abstract: Patients are often given the option of undergoing future painful treatments in one or multiple sessions (e.g., extracting two wisdom teeth on one or two different days). In a randomized controlled field experiment, we investigated the impact of transient pain on patients’ decision to combine or separate future periodontal treatments. The main results show that most patients preferred to have the future treatments take place in one session when they made their choice after a painless examination (i.e., general clinical exam). However, the patients’ preference for combining the future treatments did not differ from chance when the choice was made immediately following a painful examination (i.e., pocketing and bleeding on probing exam). The impact of pain on decision making is observed within and between participants. Current pain seems to lead patients to question their ability to endure future painful treatments in one session.
