In this article we present part of the final results of a research that investigated the actions and contributions of continuous training for pedagogical practice of 18 primary school teachers about the contents of Information Treatment. The method used is qualitative and the approach is case study. The practical situations category was developed from the analysis of questionnaires, interviews, audio recordings and document analysis, referring to work done by students and teachers in the classroom, analyzing the knowledge and productions made in the content of Information Treatment. Results showed that teachers’ didactic and pedagogical knowledge on the content of Information Treatment were uncertain and precarious and continuing education has enabled teachers for more secure attitudes as well as a (re)construction and redefinition of teaching practices on the content of Information Treatment. Among the issues highlighted in the training process it was found evidence that teachers' professional knowledge results from theory and practice integration. The teachers’ know
Alpine ethnobotany in Italy: traditional knowledge of gastronomic and medicinal plants among the Occitans of the upper Varaita valley, Piedmont
Andrea Pieroni, Maria Giusti
Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine , 2009, DOI: 10.1186/1746-4269-5-32
Abstract: In recent years, only a few ethnobotanical researches in the Alps have focused on the interaction between plant resources and human societies within ethnic minority groups [1-6]. This is regrettable because comparative and/or quantitative analyses aimed at increasing the understanding of how Traditional Knowledge (TK) of botanicals changes across cultures and over time and space are essential if we are to form strategies aimed at sustaining bio-cultural diversity and unique experiences of interactions between nature and cultures, and their transmission mechanisms along generations [7-13].Furthermore, the Alps represent one of the most interesting but least studied regions in Europe, particularly with regard to the exploration of tangible and intangible cultural heritage related to TK of plants, even though the potential outputs of such researches could be important in sustainability projects focused on organic farming, home gardens, local foods, eco-tourism, eco-gastronomy, and eco-museology; and even though climate change may have a tremendous impact on Alpine biodiversity and related ethnobotanical resources [14].Although a number of ethnobotanical inventories were compiled during the past 50 years in a few other Occitan [15-20], Franco-Provencal and Walser Alpine [21-23] valleys in Piedmont and the surrounding areas [24-26], no field ethnobotanical studies had been conducted in the Varaita valley. Instead only a few linguistic [27] and ethnographic researches [28-32] took place. The aims of this study were therefore:? to record the food and medical ethnobotanical knowledge of the Occitans living in the upper Varaita valley (Chianale and Bellino/Blins);? to compare the collected data with those available in the ethnobotanical literature of other Alpine valleys in Piedmont and surrounding areas (Aosta Valley, and the French and Swiss sides of the Alps), and to point out the eventual occurrence of a specific "Occitan" ethnobotany;? to suggest local plant resources of
Signo e sentido interno na filosofia da matemática pré-crítica
Ernesto Maria Giusti
DoisPontos , 2005,
Abstract: In this article it is argued that, in the Inquiry concerning the Principles of natural theology and of morals, the concept of inner sense is central to Kant′s theses about mathematics. It must not, however, be taken in its critical meaning, corresponding rather to a loosely lockean influx, trough Crusius, indicating only that mental reflexion about mathematical objects or concepts is involved in mathematical knowledge. The concept of inner sense incorporates, inparticular, the symbolic aspect of mathematical knowledge, and, in so doing, allows Kant to ignore what would become one of the central problems of his mature tought, namely how, in mathematics, the inspection of particulars provides us with proofs and laws which are general in character. This indicates to some relevant differences between the critical and pre-critical theory of mathematics which have been regularly overlooked.
Vamos fazer da nossa vida uma obra de arte?

Abstract: this article presents an educational research as an investigative way developed together with many people. we have counted on the narrative of some female popular educators in order to share a professional development experience carried out in the city of campinas-sp, in the period between 2003-2004. we tried to show how the teachers' education and the work developed by them in a literacy program for youngsters and adults had an impact in the life of all the people involved in the process. the importance of the experience can be seen through the narratives, which are full of the understanding of those educators about themselves and the work developed along with professors and students, all of them producers of a new and different comprehension of the lived experience. the educators' attitude manifested in their narratives, as writers, and in their life choices indicates that the emancipatory conception of knowledge production, as experienced in popular education allows the development of people's intelligence and creative energy. the new meaning of life as a work of art, unfinished and open, can be seen by the writings of the subjects involved in this program: educators and researchers.

Abstract: this paper aims to discuss the possible link between teaching and research in the teacher's practice in the first years of the elementary school. the study was based on the conception of research as an educational principle, developed by demo, on freire and giroux' understanding of the social role of the school. the research was conducted in a municipal elementary school in the city of campinas. the geographic localization and the recent history of this school motivated the search for alternatives to improve students' learning, to solve structural problems and social conflicts originated by the claim for vacancies for students living in an occupied area. taking research as an alternative for their work, the experience reported here lead to conclude that it is possible to develop a pedagogical practice in the elementary school articulating teaching and research, and taking research as a way to promote the student's intellectual and integral development, as well as the integration between the school and its community.
Primary hyperparathyroidism in multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1: when to perform surgery?
Giusti, Francesca;Tonelli, Francesco;Brandi, Maria Luisa;
Clinics , 2012, DOI: 10.6061/clinics/2012(Sup01)23
Abstract: primary hyperparathyroidism is a common endocrinological disorder. in rare circumstances, it is associated with familial syndromes, such as multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1. this syndrome is caused by a germline mutation in the multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 gene encoding the tumor-suppressor protein menin. usually, primary hyperparathyroidism is the initial clinical expression in carriers of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 mutations, occurring in more than 90% of patients and appearing at a young age (20-25 years). multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1/primary hyperparathyroidism is generally accompanied by multiglandular disease, clinically manifesting with hypercalcemia, although it can remain asymptomatic for a long time and consequently not always be recognized early. surgery is the recommended treatment. the goal of this short review is to discuss the timing of surgery in patients when primary hyperparathyroidism is associated with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1.

Brazilian Journal of Microbiology , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-83822002000100004
Abstract: the relationships between fungal growth and ergosterol content and between aflatoxins b1 and b2 production and ergosterol content were verified in corn grains. in the first experiment, fungal growth and ergosterol content were monitored during incubation of corn grains presenting water activities of 0.85aw and 0.92aw at 25oc over a period of 18 days. for the taiúba variety, the fungi growth and ergosterol content increased more rapidly for 0.92aw than 0.85aw. maximum ergosterol levels were 2.8 and 4.6 μg/g, respectively, for 0.85aw and 0.92aw. for the cargill hybrid 606, a more pronounced increase in fungal growth was verified just at the end of the incubation period, mainly for 0.92aw when an acentuated increase in ergosterol content was also observed. maximum ergosterol levels detected were 1.6 μg/g and 5.8 μg/g, respectively, for 0.85aw and 0.92aw. there was a significant correlation between ergosterol content and log of cfu g-1 for 0.92aw but not for 0.85 aw. in the second experiment, samples of corn grains of the taiúba variety at 0.87aw and 0.95aw were inoculated with a toxigenic aspergillus flavus strain and incubated at 25oc. ergosterol levels reached maximum values of 12.1 and 73.4 μg/g, respectively, for 0.87aw and 0.95aw. in both water activities, content aflatoxin b1 followed the same trend as ergosterol. for the aflatoxin b2 this trend was not observed. ergosterol assay appears to be a useful test to measure fungal growth and to indicate the possibility of aflatoxin production in corn grains.

Abstract: the objective of this study was to investigate the effect of fish feed containing different levels of linseed oil on the cholesterol content and proximate composition (moisture, ash, protein and total lipids) of tilapia fillets. the cholesterol content was determined using high performance liquid chromatography (hplc), the methodology being evaluated and validated and shown to be exact and precise. the cholesterol contents varied from 58 to 76mg/100g of muscle tissue, the inclusion of linseed oil up to a level of 3.75% favoring a decrease in the cholesterol content of the tilapia fillets, although the levels continued to be similar to those of other fish. there was no significant difference between the treatments with respect to the proximate composition. thus the use of linseed oil presented no influence on the composition of the constituents analyzed.

In the first experiment, fungal growth and ergosterol content were monitored during incubation of corn grains presenting water activities of 0.85a w and 0.92a w at 25oC over a period of 18 days. For the Taiúba variety, the fungi growth and ergosterol content increased more rapidly for 0.92a w than 0.85a w. Maximum ergosterol levels were 2.8 and 4.6 μg/g, respectively, for 0.85a w and 0.92a w.
