Personality of Students of Economics, Medicine, and Verbal Communication: Preliminary Results  [PDF]
J. Richter, R. Neumann
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2011.23039
Abstract: Differences on personality between students of economics, medicine and verbal communication should be explored by means of the Temperament and Character Inventory. Students of economics are mainly characterized by lower harm avoidance and lower reward dependence and higher self directedness than medical students and students of verbal communication. Students of all groups seem to overestimate their self-directedness with economical students showing the most pronounced tendency of overrating, whereas medical students tend to overrate their cooperativeness more than the students from the other groups. The obvious disturbed self-evaluation corresponds to the students’ professional orientation. The students can be characterized by specific and varying types and impact of social desirability depending on their professional career.
Lattice Boltzmann Simulations in the Slip and Transition Flow Regime with the Peano Framework  [PDF]
Philipp Neumann, Till Rohrmann
Open Journal of Fluid Dynamics (OJFD) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ojfd.2012.23010
Abstract: We present simulation results of flows in the finite Knudsen range, that is in the slip and transition flow regime. Our implementations are based on the Lattice Boltzmann method and are accomplished within the Peano framework. We validate our code by solving two- and three-dimensional channel flow problems and compare our results with respective experiments from other research groups. We further apply our Lattice Boltzmann solver to the geometrical setup of a microreactor consisting of differently sized channels and a reactor chamber. Here, we apply static adaptive grids to further reduce computational costs. We further investigate the influence of using a simple BGK collision kernel in coarse grid regions which are further away from the slip boundaries. Our results are in good agreement with theory and non-adaptive simulations, demonstrating the validity and the capabilities of our adaptive simulation software for flow problems at finite Knudsen numbers.
Molecular Neuropathology of TDP-43 Proteinopathies
Manuela Neumann
International Journal of Molecular Sciences , 2009, DOI: 10.3390/ijms10010232
Abstract: The identification of TDP-43 as the major component of the pathologic inclusions in most forms of sporadic and familial frontotemporal lobar degeneration with ubiquitin-positive inclusions (FTLD-U) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) resolved a long-standing enigma concerning the nature of the ubiquitinated disease protein under these conditions. Anti-TDP-43 immunohistochemistry and the recent development of novel tools, such as phosphorylation-specific TDP-43 antibodies, have increased our knowledge about the spectrum of pathological changes associated with FTLD-U and ALS and moreover, facilitated the neuropathological routine diagnosis of these conditions. This review summarizes the recent advances in our understanding on the molecular neuropathology and pathobiology of TDP-43 in FTLD and ALS.
Neumann, Eduardo;
Horizontes Antropológicos , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-71832004000200005
Abstract: in the middle xviiith century, the "tratado de madrid" (1750) took place between portugal and spain. both countries were looking forward to define the new southern latin america frontier. the tratado de madrid had a strongly impact over the indians communities under jesuits influence, starting colonial rebellion named guaranitc war (1754-1756). during this period an intense communication by mail between the spanish authorities, priests and the guarani was noticed. the "indios principais" - the missions writing elite - expressed their opinion writing letters in the way to cancel the tratado de madrid. the different kinds of documents produced by the insurgent guaranis letters, notes and messages- let us to rethink the relation between the indians and the writing culture. it also indicates the lack of attention in the historical debate to the native point of view expressed by writing.
Vom Nachthunger“ und n chtlichen Zyn “. Die Darstellung ehelicher Sexualit t in Valentin Schumanns Nachtbüchlein I/II.
Franziska Neumann
AEON : Forum für Junge Geschichtswissenschaft , 2009,
Abstract: Die Schwanksammlungen des 16.
Identity-building and Democracy in the Philippines: National Failure and Local Responses in Mindanao
Hannah Neumann
Journal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs , 2010,
Abstract: The case of the Philippines provides an interesting example of how post-colonial governments in Southeast Asia are trying to govern multi-ethnic nations. The Philippines, despite being the country in Asia with the most vibrant civil society, is still dealing with a war on the southern island of Mindanao – a war fuelled by, rather than abated by, national dynamics of identity-construction and social practices of democracy. This paper looks into these protracted national dynamics and their influence on the conflict in Mindanao. It further contrasts those with local, predominantly civil-society-based, approaches of identity re-construction and decision-making that have changed the situation for many communities on the ground, but that haven’t so far had much impact on the national setting. Therefore, the final part of the paper assesses the impact of local civil-society initiatives and draws conclusions on how those could provide blue prints for national solutions and complement high-level peace talks.
Au sujet de la vie mutilée
Alexander Neumann
