International Journal of Morphology , 2012, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-95022012000300016
Abstract: clinical and surgical importance of the levator scapulae muscle (lsm) requires a better knowledge of its anatomic variation mainly because of the possibility of new findings related to the embryologic development. this article reports a case of a left-sided lsm with atypical attachments in a 58-year-old preserved caucasian female body. the muscle presented a bifurcation at its midpoint downward path. its medial band attached to the anterior aspect of the left rhomboideus major muscle while its left band was fixed in the superior angle of the scapula after releasing a muscle expansion to the serratus anterior muscle. the morphometric analysis revealed lsm maximal width of 3.6 cm, bifurcation point located 6.6 cm apart from the c1 vertebral attachment; medial band legth of 5.7 cm and lateral band width of 2.1cm. regarding anatomic variations of the lsm, they may remain unnoticed or perhaps contribute for pathologic conditions of the neck and the back.

Abstract: Perinatal asphyxia is defined as harm to the fetus or the newborn caused by hypoxia and/or ischemia of various organs with intensity to produce biochemical and/or functional changes. Understanding the risk factors for this clinical condition allows the identification of vulnerable groups, enabling an improvement in care planning in the perinatal period in neonatal intensive care units. In this sense, this research aimed to identify risk factors for perinatal asphyxia present in newborns term that showed record for this clinical condition. This was a cross-sectional, retrospective documentary, quantitative and descriptive, conducted from data from medical records of 55 infants admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit. As for maternal characteristics (78.0%) had between 16 and 35 years, only one child (53.0%) and (76.0%) had no prior history of miscarriage. As for pre-existing diseases or pregnancy (38.0%) developed by Hypertensive Pregnancy Specific disease (02.0%) were suffering from Hypertension and (02.0%) of Diabetes Mellitus. As for newborns, most infants had birth weight (43.6%) and correlation with gestational age (78.2%) compatible for good conditions of birth. Only (20.0%) of the infants had a difficult labor. It stood out although there was a slight predominance of severe asphyxia (50.9%) in the first minute and (45.5%) of the infants had record release intrauterine meconium. It was concluded that most mothers and newborns did not have risk factors for perinatal asphyxia, thus, this fact could be attributed to the structural conditions of service, especially in the care during labor, delivery and immediate assistance newborn.

Abstract: introduction: the muscle dysmorphia (dysmus) is a psychiatric syndrome that occurs to both genders with higher prevalence in men, in which the individual perceives his body as small and weak when in fact it is strong and muscular. there are no anthropometric approaches in literature about dysmus. objective: to obtain data from a reference population in order to suggest an anthropometric criterion for the diagnosis of dysmus. methods: the sample was composed of 1,825 individuals who participated in a medical-functional evaluation (1,108 men and 717 women) between years of 1994 and 2003, with ages higher or equal to 15 years, non-athletes and not presenting significant locomotive physical disorders or clinical diagnosis of dysmus. two non-dimensional proportionality indexes b/p1 and b/p2 were individually calculated with and without correction through the measure of the skinfold thickness, respectively. the presence of a ratio above 1 between the contracted and inflected arm and leg perimeters associated to the inexistence of three other cut-off points of ectomorphy, ?skf (sum of measures of triceps and medial leg skinfold thickness) and abdominal perimeter variables; these last ones with the purpose of excluding individuals with high b/p1 and b/p2 values primarily due to the excess of body fat. results: the ratio b/p1 > 1 was observed in 16 individuals, eight from each gender. analyzing the other cut-off points, all women could be identified as obese and, therefore, not carrier of dysmus, while among men, seven out of eight individuals could be classified as suggestive dysmus cases. conclusions: based on the wide and heterogeneous sample used in this study, it is possible to suggest an anthropometric criterion to identify dysmus. other studies are being conducted in order to validate the dysmus anthropometric criterion proposed in the present study and to determine the sensibility and specificity used in samples willfully selected due to their high prevalence of dysm

Abstract: Human cysticercosis is a neglected tropical parasitic disease due to the tapeworm Taenia solium, common in endemic developing countries. Cysticerci are most commonly found within the central nervous system, but they may also localize in a variety of tissues, including the tongue. Here, we described a case of a 21-year-old woman with a painless, firm, smooth, mucosa-colored nodule located in the lateral region of the tongue was seen by a dentist. An excisional biopsy was performed, and the surgical specimen was examined histomorphologically. The analysis revealed the presence of a cystic lesion containing a serrated larva (Cysticercus cellulosae) as well as a cystic capsule with predominantly mononuclear inflammation. The morphological findings were consistent with the diagnosis of cysticercosis of the tongue. The patient was followed for 22 months and showed no signs of recurrence.

Abstract: background and objectives: critically ill patients frequently develop neurologic symptoms, which frequently become a clinical challenge. described approximately 50 years ago, pontine neuronal demyelination is a pathologic change associated with neurologic and psychiatric problems after liver transplantation. the objective of this report was to present a case of central pontine myelinolysis diagnosed after liver transplantation and to discuss its pathophysiology. case report: a 29 years old female patient underwent liver transplantation for fulminant hepatic failure. postoperatively, she developed neurologic symptoms characteristic of the locked in syndrome and the mri showed changes compatible with central pontine myelinolysis. the patient did not develop dramatic changes in sodium plasma levels, which is frequently incriminated as the causal agent, and improved considerably within a few weeks. conclusions: the etiology of central pontine myelinolysis is multifactorial, and special attention should be given to the group of patients at greater risk, such as those with sudden changes in the plasma levels of sodium, liver transplantation, chronic alcoholics, and malnourished. it is important to recognize that osmotic demyelination can develop in patients with low, normal, or elevated plasma levels of sodium, indicating the contribution of other trigger factors.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the visible loss of sugar cane and the damage to the knuckles, using the John Deere 3520 harvester on three different travel speeds (3.0; 4.0 and 5.0 km·h-1), in DIC with five repetitions in Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro/Brazil. Each treatment was composed by six lines of harvested cane stumps, with a length of 290 m each. In these six lines, the remains of sugar cane left in the field were collected by placing the sampling frame in two central lines every 50 m, and separating 40 m of edge. The sampling area was surrounded by 2 m wide and 10 m long, totaling 20 m2. To calculate the damage to stumps, a visual methodology by [1], was used, which classifies the damage grade, ranging from 1 to 4. Fifty stumps were assessed randomly for each speed, in a sampling area of 1800 m2. The data were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey test at 5%, in order to compare the effect of different speeds on the losses and damages. There was no significant difference regarding the loss or damage by comparing the different speeds. Therefore, it is more advantageous to use the speed of 5.0 km·h-1, harvesting more in less time and causing the same level of damage.

Abstract: psychiatric disorders related to body image distortions are highly associated with physical and psychological distress and significant social and ocupacional disfunction. also, they are caracterized for inducing behaviors that can be harmful for the patient's health. muscle dysmorfia (md) is a subtype of body dysmorfic disorder, marked by specific and recurrent worring about muscle appearance and hipertrophy. this disorder is significantly more prevalent in men and, despite the actual level of muscle hipertrophy, the subjects seek increasing their body mass by excessive weight lifting, engaging in hiperproteic diets and using anabolic substances. the present study aimed to evaluate the construct validity of an antropometric criteria (the b/p index - the ratio between the perimeter of the contracted arm and the perimeter of the leg), previously proposed, as an antropometric indicator to suspect of md in weight lifters. a sample (n = 100) of male body builders, between 18 and 35 years old, were measured and responded the muscle appearance satisfaction scale (mass). their cineantropometric measures were also compared to the ones from another sample (n = 313), with similar demografic caracteristics, evaluated to start an exercise program. data analysis sugest that a subjetc with b/p > 1 have a higher probability of presenting a score that would indicate md in the mass. this results indicate that the b/p index can be used as a valid antropometric criteria to help exercise professionals suspect of md in individuals with b/p > 1 and reffer them to especialized professionals for diagnose and treatment.

This paper reports aspects of a study aimed at analyzing the curriculum of a public school, under the administration of the municipality, in the city of Natal/RN, with the purpose of verifying if the curriculum has aspects of inclusion for students with intellectual disabilities. Based on a case study, we present some reflections on the conceptions of the curriculum, from the perspective of school inclusion. For this end, we emphasize the understanding of teachers, coordinators and the principal about the insertion of this theme in the pedagogicalpolicy project and the conception of the curriculum, as well as the curriculum guidelines, as expressed in the pedagogical-policy project. We found that the official curriculum guidelines express a broad vision of the curriculum, but are unknown to the professional of the educational institution.

Physics , 2008,
Abstract: We report an algorithm for the partition of a line segment according to a given ratio $\nu$. At each step the length distribution among sets of the partition follows a binomial distribution. We call $k$-set to the set of elements with the same length at the step $n$. The total number of elements is $2^n$ and the number of elements in a same $k$-set is $C_n^k$. In the limit of an infinite partion this object become a multifractal where each $k$-set originate a fractal. We find the fractal spectrum $D_k$ and calculate where is its maximum. Finally we find the values of $D_k$ for the limits $k/n \to 0$ and 1.
