In-Vivo Models for Management of Pain  [PDF]
Naveed Muhammad
Pharmacology & Pharmacy (PP) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/pp.2014.51014
Abstract:

Natural products are mostly considered safe, effective and with fewer side effects. For testing the natural products for their analgesic potential various in-vivo methods are used including chemical induced methods and thermal induced method. In the present review article we have discussed various in-vivo paradigms along with their merits and drawbacks. This mini review will help pharmacologist in performing various analgesic experiments.

Cotton genetic diversity study by AFLP markers
Murtaza,Naveed;
Electronic Journal of Biotechnology , 2006,
Abstract: amplified fragmentlength polymorphism (aflp) markers have been used to ascertain the intensity of inherent diversity and relatedness in cotton (gossypium spp.) plants. the effectiveness of this method to distinguish inter and intra specific difference in cotton could be handy in cultivar recognition and in marker assisted parental selection tool for plant breeders. twenty cotton cultivars belonging to gossypium hirsutum l., and g. arborium l. from the pakistan and us origin were used for aflp based genetic diversity estimates. the objective of this study was to assess the level of genetic variation among some cotton cultivars belonging to the old and new world species of cotton. four ecori-msei primer-pair combinations were used forthe aflp analysis. the aflp data assigned the genotypes into groups that corresponded with their origin and lineage relationships and showed a narrow genetic base among these cultivars.
Spectrochemical Investigation of Aluminum Master Alloys
Naveed Akhtar
Pakistan Journal of Analytical and Environmental Chemistry , 2010,
Abstract: The objective of this study is to observe the significance of sampling fractions in spectrochemical analysis of aluminium master alloys. Aluminium master alloys are difficult to analyze by routine analytical methods due to inhomogeneity and high percentage of the alloying elements. In this study aluminium master alloys were remelted along with aluminium ingots of 99.9% purity in an electrical crucible furnace and subsequently analysis by spark optical emission spectrometer (OES). The bulk samples of a particular aluminium master alloy for re-melting process was chosen by two different methods and evaluated for % recovery of the target element. It was observed that sampling fractions and compilation techniques greatly affects the compositional results of aluminium master alloys. The 20% bulk sampling showed good recoveries and very precise results for each alloying element in the respective master alloy. The results of spark OES were cross checked by X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF) with the help of certified reference materials.
Faith & Reason: A Synthesis in Pakistani Society
Naveed Yazdani
Pakistan Journal of Commerce and Social Sciences , 2009,
Abstract: The basic objectives of this paper are to build a general level of understanding towards the need for synthesizing and harmonizing religious, scientific and philosophical thoughts as they are developed and practiced in Pakistan or in other words, bringing the Islamic and western incliners close to each other and also in outlining some practical methodological ways through which this process of integration can be put on track leading towards a forward looking and modern Pakistani society while retaining its core and basic fabric of faith and religion. The paper has three sections, the first section highlights the needs and reasons for synthesis in relation to various segments of our society and also point out the potential adverse consequences of not undertaking and building an integrative view. The second section suggests some ways, measures and methods of achieving the above mentioned thought of integration across the society and focuses on some of the collective and institutional level endeavors and commitments required to actualize this integration. The third section of this paper issues some warnings regarding the process of integration and its possible undesirable repercussions on the society, in light of some of the earlier such attempts. The research draws some practical steps which need to be undertaken in the Pakistani society for creating a synthesis between Faith and Reason.

CHRONIC ANAL FISSURE
NAVEED AHMAD
The Professional Medical Journal , 2005,
Abstract: Objectives: To compare the results of open and closed lateral internalsphincterotomy in the treatment of chronic anal fissure. Setting: Department of Surgery, Nishtar Hospital MultanPeriod: From April 2002 to September 2002. Material and Methods: The study subject included 50 patients. Twentyfive patients underwent closed lateral internal sphincterotomy (CLIS) and remaining were treated by open lateral internalsphincterotomy (OLIS). Follow-up for complications was done for the period of 4 months after the procedure. Results:The best results were obtained with closed lateral internal sphincterotomy in which incontinence rate was 24% andrecurrence rate 12%. Conclusion: Closed lateral internal sphincterotomy is treatment of choice for chronic anal fissurewith acceptable complication rate.
TUBERCULOSIS OF SPINE
Muhammad Naveed
The Professional Medical Journal , 2001,
Abstract: Fifty cases of tuberculosis of the spine were studied at Shiekh Zayed Hospital, Lahore between Jan1991 and June 1994. The most common age was 30-50 years. Male to female ratio was 3:2. Themost common site of infection was T9-T12. The most common symptom was backache while themost common sign was local tenderness. Spinal cord compression was found in 18 cases. The mosthelpful specific investigation was plane radiograph of the spine.
Phytochemical Screening and Evaluation of Anesthetic Effects of Qurs saffron (A Herbal Medicine)
Naveed Ullah
Asian Journal of Medical Sciences , 2011,
Abstract: Qurs saffron (herbal tablets) is used so widely as an analgesic for the treatment of gout through the Asia. And it is believed to be so safe because of its herbal properties. Therefore its effects on all the body functions are the need of hour to confirm the safety of this product for human health. In the current study the qualitative phytochemical screening of the product revealed that, it have excess quantity of alkaloids, moderate amount of saponin and carbohydrates. The alkaloids present in the product may be responsible of anti- gout effect. The anesthetic effect of the product were also checked, which were found to be negative. No comparable anesthetic effect was noted to that of xylocaine. From the current study it can be concluded that the product is effective for the use as anti-gout, and safe from the anesthetic effect.
STUDY OF GENE EFFECTS FOR BOLL NUMBER, BOLL WEIGHT, AND SEED INDEX IN COTTON
NAVEED Murtaza
Journal of Central European Agriculture , 2006,
Abstract: Sixty four cross combinations were produced by a complete diallel-mating system with eight varieties (Laokra5.5, DPL-7340-424, Fregobract, Glandless 4195-220, SA100, Stoneville-857, S-14 and B-557). The results showed that non-additive over dominance type of gene action governed the inheritance of number of bolls per plant (Wr + Vr) 30.31ns and boll weight (Wr + Vr) 0.063ns in F1 generation. Additive with partial dominance was operative in the inheritance of seed index (Wr + Vr) 1.30** in F1 generation. Estimates of narrow sense heritability for boll number (0.373 F1 and 0.751 F2), boll weight (0.238 F1, 0.230 F2) seed index (0.695 F1, 1.042 F2) along with expected genetic gain because of selection, a potentially useful advance in these characters seems possible to achieve by selecting individual plants showing better qualities. Biparental mating in early generation among the selected lines, or diallel selective mating can be adopted in breeding programs for the improvement of the characters studied.
