Performance of Some Walnut Cultivars under Climatic Conditions of Murree Hills

Abstract: The present studies were carried out on four walnut cultivars viz Hartley, Payne, Sorrento and Odom at the Hill Fruit Research Sub-Station, Lower Topa, Murree during 1999-2000. Vigorous plants were noted of Odom cultivar. Similarly Odom nuts were significantly larger in size having 36.70 mm length and 35.65 mm diameter as compared to the minimum size (29.50 mm length x 27.54 mm diameter) in cv. Sorrento. Weight of the fruit kernel and kernel percentage was maximum in Odom and minimum in Payne. Nuts of Odom cv. Mature in the first week of October while all other cultivars in second week of October Significantly highest number of fruits/tree (205) and weight (2.07 Kg) was attained in Odom and least in other cultivars. Conclusively Odom cultivar of walnut is recommended fro early maturity, large and heavy fruit and the maximum yield.

Abstract: Peral millet being drought tolerant has substantial potential to contribute in food security ensuring the food, fodder and nutritional value in different Asian and African countries. Susceptibility to abiotic and biotic factors and low productivity are the main reasons for decreasing productivity and area of millets. In this context, evaluation of the effect of weed control practices and varying sowing dates on grain yield of kharif season grown pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum L.) was demonstrated at post graduate agriculture research station, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad during 2015. Forage pearl millet was sown at three different sowing dates i.e. mid-June, end of June and mid-July and four weed control practices viz. weedy check (no weeding), twice hoeing at 15 and 30 days after sowing (DAS), weed control using herbicides i.e. application of Atrazine (Awax 38 SC) @ 330 g a.i. ha-1 at 15 DAS, and twice foliar applications of 10% Sorghum water extract (Sorgaab) (at 15 and 30 DAS). The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) under split plot arrangement, comprising of three replications. The treatments with varying sowing dates were randomized in main plots and weed control practices were in subplots. Recycling of Automotive Lubricating Waste Oil and Its Quality Assessment for Environment-Friendly Use

Abstract: Lubricating oils, which are formulated with a number of chemicals blended base oils provide products that last longer, keep machinery cleaner and allow the machinery to work better under severe operating conditions. However, the used oil-waste generated by the automobiles and other allied industries poses an environmental hazard. The motivation of the present research study was to study the merits and demerits of commonly applicable technique acid/clay for reclamation of waste oil. This process has been employed for many years as the premier type of re-refining in which concentrated sulfuric acid is introduced to dehydrate waste lubricating oil. An acidic sludge is produced which is treated with clay. In this study, the conventional process of reclamation of waste oil, which is acid/clay, has been reviewed in the light of recovered product quality and hazardous effects on the environment and human health. Forty samples, in which, waste oil (10), reclaimed oil (30) were collected from different blending and reclamation plants located in different areas of the Punjab Province and were compared with two stroke blended oil (10 samples). The samples were tested for kinematic viscosity at 40 and 100oC, Viscosity Index, Flash point, Sulfated Ash content, Copper Corrosion, Water content, Sediments and Color by following the standard ASTM Methods D-445, D-2270, D-92, D-482, D-130, D-95, D-473 and D-1500 (ASTM, 2002), respectively. According to the results, blended reclaimed (two stroke) oil samples were found up to the recommended standard test limits. On the other hand, waste oil and reclaimed oil samples were found above the maximum test limits of acid number and copper corrosion and were found below in flash point test limit. Waste oil samples were highly contaminated and adulterated with mud and water. Although no such standard criteria or parameters are available for comparison but analysis results showed a bad reflection and due to which only few tests like copper strip corrosion, water content, sediments and flash point were performed to understand the characteristics of the market available waste oil product. These results showed that product is not environment friendly and the processing method needs to be improved. More research is needed to find out atmospheric pollution due to burning or use of reclaimed and waste oil on human health especially from occupation health and safety perspective.

Abstract:

Natural products are mostly considered safe, effective and with fewer side effects. For testing the natural products for their analgesic potential various in-vivo methods are used including chemical induced methods and thermal induced method. In the present review article we have discussed various in-vivo paradigms along with their merits and drawbacks. This mini review will help pharmacologist in performing various analgesic experiments.

Impact of WTO Reforms on Trade Agreements on Cotton and Clothing in Pakistan

Abstract: The current research examines the WTO and its impact on of trade agreements on cotton and clothing in Pakistan Data were collected from various secondary sources and analyzed by using SPSS-18. It was revealed that the World Trade Organization (WTO). ATC set out a transitional process for the ultimate removal of quotas and the full adoption of Cotton and clothing products into GATT rules. It was signed in the Uruguay Round of negotiations by this agreement, countries Canada, the EU, Norway, and the US committed to a progressive elimination of MFA restrictions within 10 years, and since January 2005 the WTO is fully implemented. It was revealed that WTO reforms has positive impact on the cotton and cotting exports on Pakistan’s economy. It was further revealed that these trade reforms also bootup the SAFTA trade.
