Abstract:

We have done a comparative study of ion status, growth and biochemical parameters in shoots and roots of seablite (Suaeda altissima (L.) Pall.) and spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) grown with different salinity levels in the medium (0.5 - 750 mМ). A distinctive feature of the halophyte was a high Na+ content in tissues at its low concentration in the medium (0.5 mM). In these conditions, Na+ accumulation in seablite roots was four-fold higher than in spinach roots, and Na+ content in seablite leaves was almost 20-fold higher than in spinach. Together with an increase in sodium concentration in the medium, K+ content decreased six-fold in seablite leaves, while in spinach it did not decrease so drastically. We can suppose that in the halophyte, some processes occur only in the presence of sodium, and these functions of sodium cannot be fully fulfilled by potassium. Analysis of protein and total nitrogen content in tissues shows that at high salinity, the ability to synthesize non-protein nitrogen-containing compounds increases in the halophyte and decreases in the glycophyte. Data on proline content dynamics show that its increase in tissues of spinach (salinity levels 150 and 250 mМ) and seablite (salinity levels 0.5 and 750 m

Sarmiento,Nataly;
Colombia Internacional , 2008,
Abstract: this article questions the motivations of multinational corporations in adopting social responsibility policies in developing countries. to this end, the article compares the case of drummond ltd. and carbones del cerrejón ltd. in colombia . the study demonstrated that the companies respond in different ways to the institutional restrictions and pressures and that therefore their initiatives in social responsibility rise amidst specific institutional contexts. it concludes that the motivations that both multinationals have to adopt social responsibility policies are divided in two categories: internal and external. as a result, the main contribution of this article to the literature in this field was the development of a bidimensional model of social responsibility in which the institutional factors constitute the basis of behavior of multinational corporations.

The street-art is henceforth a part of the townscape of the Latin American cities. Rich in aesthetic, rhetoric and cultural stereotypes, the aim of this article is to analyze how the relation between the North and the South in America is represented through a corpus of posters and Latin American graffiti. From a point of view of linguistics, semantics and semiotics, we analyze this corpus pointing some questions that follows: how do these pictures query the relations between the North and the South? How do they contribute to the process of typecasting of both? Which are the identical and ideological stakes carried in this process? Our hypothesis is that, by conveying a stereotypy of the way the North perceived by the South, those images elaborate a hetero-stereotypy (the various) giving rise to an auto-stereotypy (the identical). It is a question of a process of relational typecasting, where the glance on the Other implies the glance on One. It means that the way the North is named and represented, determines the image the South conveys of itself.

Abstract: lutzomyia intermedia was the predominant species. it was collected indoors but in much higher numbers outdoors, in the close vicinity of houses. in comparative captures it was found to feed more frequently on equines, and less frequently on man and dogs. studies, using man and animals as baits, showed that blood-feeding started in the evening, and remained stable during the night, until early morning. june, august and october were the months of highest density.
