A biomechanical model of the face including muscles for the prediction of deformations during speech production
Julie Groleau,Matthieu Chabanas,Christophe Marecaux,Natacha Payrard,Brice Segaud,Michel Rochette,Pascal Perrier,Yohan Payan
Physics , 2008,
Abstract: A 3D biomechanical finite element model of the face is presented. Muscles are represented by piece-wise uniaxial tension cable elements linking the insertion points. Such insertion points are specific entities differing from nodes of the finite element mesh, which makes possible to change either the mesh or the muscle implementation totally independently of each other. Lip/teeth and upper lip/lower lip contacts are also modeled. Simulations of smiling and of an Orbicularis Oris activation are presented and interpreted. The importance of a proper account of contacts and of an accurate anatomical description is shown
Bustos,Natacha;
Argos , 2012,
Abstract: the present paper proposes to notice the cognitive process' moment in which the sage's ability to control his assents would become apparent; this objective presents some difficulties given the context of a radical determinism that characterizes stoic thought. therefore, and with the aim of solving such problems, we will conjugate the existence of a determinations' chain (which constitutes fate) with the possibility that a man has a faculty which 'might be in his power'.
Nicaise, Natacha;
Vibrant: Virtual Brazilian Anthropology , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1809-43412012000100016
Abstract: setting out from an analysis of the narrative that turned black people into the archetypical recipients of european development aid, this article examines the production of an ontological, racial and cultural difference between aid donors and recipients. it shows the interconnection between two sociohistorical processes: the reconfigurations of european bureaucracy responsible for relations with 'underdeveloped' countries, and the social and professional trajectories of some of the first civil servants responsible for informing about these policies within the context of european unification. the text examines the definition of the populations and regions receiving development aid in four parts: the racialization of poverty and policies of compassion, the european community and the development of africa, bureaucracy and world organization, and the passions and vocations of development workers.

Life : Care Relationship and its Ethic among the T’ai Dam of Northern Laos. A Study of the Polysemic Notion of Liang

Abstract : The notion of liang, common to all tai languages, denotes a multiplicity of practices : feeding, raising animals and children, adopting, taking care of one’s elders, worshiping spirits. Firstly, this article proposes to explore, in the context if a rice-growing t’ai dam village of Northern Laos, the semantic field and variety of practices concerned by this notion. Whichever the beneficiary (animal, human or spirit) and whatever the action (raising, taking care or worshiping), liang always imply the initiation and the preservation of a relationship founded on the gift, real of symbolic, of food. Besides, it requires one sort of another of reciprocity. The second part of the article will be devoted to three case studies narrating difficulties encountered in the conception and raising of children. It will show that liang is all at once a given or achieved aptitude and a value essential to the reproduction and to the continuation of the life cycle.
The present paper proposes to notice the cognitive process' moment in which the sage's ability to control his assents would become apparent; this objective presents some difficulties given the context of a radical determinism that characterizes Stoic thought. Therefore, and with the aim of solving such problems, we will conjugate the existence of a determinations' chain (which constitutes fate) with the possibility that a man has a faculty which 'might be in his power'.
NUEVOS APORTES A LA TECNOLOGíA óSEA DE LA CUENCA INFERIOR DEL RíO PARANá (BAJíOS RIBERE OS MERIDIONALES, ARGENTINA) (New contributions to our understanding of the bone technology of the lower basin Parana River (southern Coastal Shallows, Argentina))

ENGLISH: This paper deals with bone technology in a sector of the lower Paraná wetland: the northern floodplain. The general aim is to assess the variability demonstrated in bone reduction strategies in six hunter-gatherer sites dated to the Late Holocene (~ 1100-700 years 14C BP). For that purpose I employ morpho-functional groups as the analytic unit, evaluating, in each case, distributional aspects and morphological, physical, metric and microscopic variation. As a result I note, on the one hand, little variability, and that which is present is concentrated at the latest site, indicating that this variation may represent a response to a specific hunter-gatherer situation. But, for the most part, the societies studied shared general knowledge about osseous raw materials that led to the development of relatively standardized morpho-functional groups at the inter-site level.

Abstract: in previous work, functional complementarity between lithic and bone materials for the lower paraná wetlands during the late holocene based on morphological traits was proposed (loponte y sacur silvestre 2002). in this paper, this hypothesis by applying microscopic functional analysis to both types of artefactual assemblage from anahí archaeological site is evaluated. from a methodological perspective, it is evident that traces in lithic and bone material develop in different ways, implying that a distinct approach is needed for each material. even so, comparison of the archaeological assemblages enables to discuss the existence of behaviors related to the differential exploitation of lithic and bone materials that may be linked not only to their availability but also to their distinct properties.
Abordagem do modelo transteórico no comportamento alimentar
Toral,Natacha; Slater,Betzabeth;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232007000600025
Abstract: the study of eating behavior has been much interest, as this is an essential element for the success of dietary interventions. in view of the complexity of the subject and the countless influences to which it is subject, it is suggested that an in-depth exploration of eating behavior determinants enhances the impact of programs promoting healthy dietary practices. increasingly more frequent, the adoption of inadequate diets in brazil and elsewhere in the world leads to questions about the impact of dietary interventions traditionally applied to population groups. many nutritional education strategies are currently described in the literature; however, motivating people to change their eating habits is still a major public health challenge. applying the transtheoretical model seems to have a promising role for an enhanced understanding of changes in eating habits that are targeted by dietary interventions. strategies that are tailored to each step in these changes, as identified by this theory, can motivate people more effectively to adopt healthier eating habits.
Transgender children: more than a theoretical challenge
Natacha Kennedy,Mark Hellen
Graduate Journal of Social Science , 2010,
Abstract: This research suggests that the majority of transgender people become aware of their gender identities at a very early age. As such many transgender children go through most, if not all, of their time in compulsory education knowing their gender identity is different from that expected of them. Transgender children are characterised as “apparent” and “non-apparent”, with the vast majority being “non-apparent”. It is argued that their concealment and suppression of identity for such a long period can lead to problems.This paper examines this evidence and goes on to examine the implications of this from the point of view of children’s abilities to rationalise and understand their own situations and make sense of the conflicting pressures on them to conform to gender normative behaviour and to expectations of gender which they are ultimately unable to do. As such they may spend many years of their lives unnecessarily having to deal with feelings of guilt and shame. The consequences of this are likely to be substantial underachievement in all areas of their lives.
