Comparison of classification methods for detecting associations between SNPs and chick mortality
Nanye Long, Daniel Gianola, Guilherme JM Rosa, Kent A Weigel, Santiago Avenda?o
Genetics Selection Evolution , 2009, DOI: 10.1186/1297-9686-41-18
Abstract: In genetic association studies of complex traits, assessing many loci jointly may be more informative than testing associations at individual markers. Firstly, the complexity of biological processes underlying a complex trait makes it probable that many loci residing on different chromosomes are involved [1,2]. Secondly, carrying out thousands of dependent single marker tests tends to produce many false positives. Even when significance thresholds are stringent, "significant" markers that are detected sometimes explain less than 1% of the phenotypic variation [3].Standard regression models have problems when fitting effects of a much larger number of SNPs (and, possibly, their interactions) than the number of observations available. To address this difficulty, a reasonable solution could be pre-selection of a small number of SNPs, followed by modeling of associations between these SNPs and the phenotype [4]. Other strategies include stepwise selection [5], Bayesian shrinkage methods [6], and semiparametric procedures, such as mixed models with kernel regressions [7,8].Machine learning methods are alternatives to traditional statistical approaches. Machine learning is a branch of artificial intelligence that "learns" from past examples, and then uses the learned rules to classify new data [9]. Their typical use is in a classification framework, e.g., disease classification. For example, Sebastiani et al. [10] applied Bayesian networks to predict strokes using SNP information, as well as to uncover complex relationships between diseases and genetic variants. Typically, classification is into two classes, such as "unaffected" and "affected". Multi-category classification has been studied, for example, by Khan et al. [11] and Li et al. [12]. It is more difficult than binary assignment, and classification accuracy drops as the number of categories increases. For instance, the error rate of random classification is 50% and 90% when 2 and 10 categories are used, respective
Leveraging Prior Information to Detect Causal Variants via Multi-Variant Regression

PLOS Computational Biology , 2013, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pcbi.1003093
Abstract: Although many methods are available to test sequence variants for association with complex diseases and traits, methods that specifically seek to identify causal variants are less developed. Here we develop and evaluate a Bayesian hierarchical regression method that incorporates prior information on the likelihood of variant causality through weighting of variant effects. By simulation studies using both simulated and real sequence variants, we compared a standard single variant test for analyzing variant-disease association with the proposed method using different weighting schemes. We found that by leveraging linkage disequilibrium of variants with known GWAS signals and sequence conservation (phastCons), the proposed method provides a powerful approach for detecting causal variants while controlling false positives.

Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2016.42012
Abstract: There is larger financing gap in the public facility construction during the promotion of new urbanization in China. It may relieve the difficulty in Public-Private-Partnership project financing through introducing Public-Private-Partnership industry fund mode, flexibly and effectively lead the social capital to engage in the infrastructure construction, and improve the public service efficiency. Based on the feasibility analysis of Public-Private-Partnership industry fund mode, this article has combed the operation ways of Public-Private-Partnership industry fund mode, and proposed the countermeasures for promoting Public-Private-Partnership industry fund mode on account of existing problems on such basis.
Analysis of Total Factor Productivity in China’s Commercial Banks
—Based on Hicks-Moorsteen TFP Indicators

Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2016.44018
Abstract: The paper uses Hicks-Moorsteen TFP indicator to measure the changes of total factor productivity in China’s commercial banks from 2010 to 2014 on the basis of big data in BankScope database. By analyzing the sample data and total factor productivity, the paper finds out in-depth motives of the dynamic changes of TFP. At present, domestic commercial banks are at the stage of deepening reforms. Thus, exploring into the motives that drive the efficiency of commercial banks in recent years and affecting factors is of great instructive roles for national supervision institutions’ formulating relevant monitoring policies, improving banks’ efficiency in resource allocation, and launching profound reforms in banks.

Creative Education (CE) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2016.74073
Abstract: To strengthen and improve college students’ party construction in the new period is very important, and it has a great significance. The university is the cradle of cultivating a new generation of the motherland, carrying the hope of the future. Strengthening the university student party construction work, and training more excellent party members have very important role in realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The university student party building work has made some achievements in recent years, but it still exists some problems which cannot be ignored. This paper makes a deep study on the new situation and new problems about the university student party building work, and finds out some measures and countermeasures of some new methods for university students to provide the theoretical support for the work of Party building.
Research of Confucianism Education Method in Chinese College Students’ Ideological and Political Education  [PDF]

Creative Education (CE) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2016.77109
Abstract: With the rapid development of Chinese economy and society, the ideological condition of college students continuously presents new characteristics, and also brings challenge to ideological and political education work effectiveness. Because of the upsurge of “Chinese culture” in recent years, some scholars have begun to study the idea of Confucian psychological education. How to integrate Confucian psychological education into the ideological and political education of college students will become a new hot spot and the difficulty. Study of Confucian thoughts on psychological education, using Confucian thoughts on psychological education and methods to strengthen college students’ psychological quality, to strengthen the cultivation of students’ psychological quality, and to further enhance the system and effectiveness of the ideological and political education of college students, is not only the requirement of students’ healthy growth, and social expectations of university ideological and political education work.

Open Journal of Business and Management (OJBM) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ojbm.2016.44074
Abstract: Based on the analysis of the world’s top 500 companies list from 2005 to 2015, comparative research was conducted between six countries including the United States, China, Japan, Britain, France and Germany, which were representative in both revenue and profit among the Fortune Global 500. This paper analyzed the quantity, revenue, profit, margin profit and industrial distribution of these corporations from above-mentioned countries. The existing problems of Chinese enterprises were identified, and corresponding suggestions were given.
Teaching Model Reform of Performance Management Course Based on the Theory of Constructivism  [PDF]

Open Journal of Business and Management (OJBM) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ojbm.2018.63049
As the core course of human resource management major, performance management course is highly practical. Based on the theory of constructivism, combining with the practical requirements of enterprise performance management and constructing simulation situation of enterprise performance management, which can make the students understand theory with practice, get better understanding of professional knowledge and master the relevant skills. From the essence of organizational performance simulation method, the performance of communication as an example, the article introduces the operational ideas about constructivism concept in the teaching of performance management, and summarizes the teaching mode experience in organizational context simulation during the performance management teaching process.

Journal of Service Science and Management (JSSM) , 2008, DOI: 10.4236/jssm.2008.13029
Abstract: This study examines competencies of Human Resource (HR) professionals in the manufacturing companies of Malaysia. The Human Resource Competency Survey (HRCS) model is used in this study. The competencies that are examined in this study are business knowledge, strategic contribution, HR delivery, personal credibility and HR technology. All these competencies will be tested whether or not they are significantly related to a firm’s performance. Furthermore, researcher wanted to study the relationship of these competencies with variables such as experience, education level, firm’s size and salary of the sample. The sample employed here consists of HR professionals from Malaysian manufac-turing companies in Johor, the southernmost state of Malaysia.
