Objectives: To describe and analyze the epidemiological profile and the associated factors to suicide attempt in a sample of the Colombian Population. Design: Secondary analysis of the First National Mental Health and Psychoactive Drugs Consumption Survey database. Sample: 25.135 persons were interviewed. The sample was chosen to be between 16 to 60 years old with a total group of 21.988 persons for this analysis. ZUNG anxiety and depression scales were applied. Two hundred and forty independent variables were measured. Principal end measurement: Self-report of suicide attempt in the last year and lifetime prevalence. Results: Prevalence for suicide attempt in the last year and lifetime prevalence were 1.2% (95% CI: 1.06- 1.34) and 4.25% (95% CI: 4.25-4.81) respectively. When a multiple logistic regression model was conducted, the suicide attempt in the last year was associated with: ages from 16 to 21 years (OR=2.5;CI 95% 1.5-4.2), severe (OR 11.8; 5.1-27.3) moderate (OR = 5.3; 3.1-9.0) and mild depression (OR = 3.6 ; 2.4-5

Alternative Methods for Analysis of Cyanobacterial Populations in Drinking Water Supplies: Fluorometric and Toxicological Applications Using Phycocyanin  [PDF]
Nancy J. Leland, James F. Haney
Journal of Water Resource and Protection (JWARP) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/jwarp.2018.108042
Abstract: The management of cyanobacteria and potential exposure to associated biotoxins requires the allocation of scarce resources across a range of freshwater resources within various jurisdictions. Cost effective and reliable methods for sample processing and analysis form the foundation of the protocol yielding reliable data from which to derive important decisions. In this study the utilization of new methods to collect, process and analyze samples enhanced our ability to evaluate cyanobacterial populations. Extraction of phycocyanin using the single freeze thaw method provided more accurate and precise measurements (CV 4.7% and 6.4%), offering a simple and cost-effective means to overcome the influence of morphological variability. In-vacuo concentration of samples prior to ELISA analysis provided a detection limit of 0.001 μg·L?1 MC. Fractionation of samples (<0.2 μm, <2.0 μm, <50 μm, WLW and BFC) influenced our interpretations and improved our ability to establish a causative relationship between phycocyanin and microcystin levels in two aquatic systems with distinctly different cyanobacterial populations. In a Microcystis spp. dominant system Log MC (ng·L?1) = ?0.279 + (1.368 ? Log PC (μg·L?1) while in an Aphanizomemon spp. dominant system Log MC (ng·L?1) = 0.385 + (0.449 ? Log PC (μg·L?1). These methods and sampling protocol could be used in other aquatic systems across a broader regional landscape to estimate the levels of microcystins.
A nomenclator for the frailejones (Espeletiinae Cuatrec., Asteraceae)
Mauricio Diazgranados
PhytoKeys , 2012, DOI: 10.3897/phytokeys.16.3186
Abstract: The páramos and high Andean forests of the tropical Andes are largely dominated by frailejones (Espeletiinae Cuatrec., Asteraceae). These plants are ecologically and culturally essential for both ecosystems and local inhabitants. The frailejones have been studied for over two centuries, but the taxonomic knowledge is still sparse and incomplete. The inedited monograph by Cuatrecasas contains only ca. 70% of the species known today, and publications in the last decade disagree regarding the number of taxa within the group, with estimates ranging from 3 genera and 90 species to 8 genera and 154 species. Moreover the literature contains inexact information about their distribution. As part of a study of the phylogenetic and biogeographic relationships of the group, a thorough revision of the nomenclature was needed as a first step. Currently the subtribe has 8 recognized genera, 141 species, 17 subspecies, 22 varieties, 8 forms, 33 recognized hybrids, 142 synonyms and 5 invalid names, for a total of 368 names (autonyms not counted). The most current list of taxa is presented here, along with some notes and Spanish names. Tamananthus crinitus V.M.Badillo is not included within the subtribe. Various previous species or infraspecific taxa (i.e. Carramboa tachirensis (Aristeg.) Cuatrec., Espeletia algodonosa Aristeg., E. aurantia Aristeg., E. brassicoidea var. macroclada, E. brassicoidea var. pedunculata, E. garcibarrigae Cuatrec. and Espeletiopsis cristalinensis (Cuatrec.) Cuatrec.) are proposed or confirmed as hybrids. Two new records for Colombia are mentioned: Ruilopezia cardonae (Cuatrec.) Cuatrec., which is the first report of Ruilopezia for that country, and Espeletia steyermarkii Cuatrec. Observations regarding the frequency of hybrids in the subtribe are also given.
La Vida Relacional Después de un Trauma Crónico: El Caso de un Grupo de Soldados Secuestrados Trea A os por las Farc
Silvia Diazgranados
Revista de Estudios Sociales , 2004,
Abstract: The present study tried to establish the attachment style, presence and severity of simple and complex posttraumatic stress, and the quality and quantity of relationships in the net of support of 15 soldiers that were kidnapped 3 years by las FARC, 14 months after their release. The following instruments were used: 1) Bartholomew Attachment Scale, 2) SIDES-CR self report Scale; 3) The Trauma Center Symptom Scale for PTSD; 4) Net of support format; and 5) A semi-structured interview format. Two profiles are proposed, based on the results. Significative differences (p>.05) were found between attachment styles, and a) The severity of Simple PTSD, intrusion and constriction symptoms, b) Presence and severity of Complex PTSD, and alterations in attention and consciousness, self-perception, and system of meanings. Also, between the presence and severity of simple and complex PTSD symptoms and: a) Attachment styles, b) Size of the net of support; and c) Communication quality, and tendency of family relationships. Relationships with captivity partners were the best ones and more solid of the net of support.
Desarrollo de un sistema de regeneración en Papa criolla (Solanum phureja Juz et Buck) var. Yema de huevo clon 1
Diazgranados,Cristina; Chaparro,Alejandro;
Agronomía Colombiana , 2007,
Abstract: a 46% of regeneration was obtained for explants without co-cultive using the cip-ms medium (2 mg· l-1 zr, 0,02 mg· l-1 ana, and 0,02 mg· l-1 ag3) developed in the international potato center. in order to improve the regeneration percentages, it was modified the proportion cytokinins:auxins of the cip-ms medium, obtaining 55% callus formation having a concentration of 2 mg· l-1 zr and 0.04 mg· l-1 ana. afterwards the effect of gibberellic acid was evaluated in this medium with 3 concentrations (0.02, 0.05, and 0.1 mg· l-1) obtaining 87.6% callus formation and 48.6% regeneration using the medium 2 mg· l-1 zr, 0,04 mg· l-1 ana, 0.02 mg· l-1 ag3 in explants under co-cultive conditions. this results were corroborated in a second regeneration assay under the co-cultive conditions with agrobacterium tumefaciens lba4404 transformed by the binary vector pnov022: similar callus formation and regeneration percentages where obtained. it has been reported an average 4 ± 3.3 regenerants/ callus using s. phureja stems, whereas, in the present research, an average of 15.2 ± 3 regenerants/callus was reported.
Interpretación clínica de los experimentos clínicos en cáncer
Torregroza-Diazgranados,Eduardo;
Revista Colombiana de Cirugía , 2005,
Abstract: the evaluation of the beneficial effects of a particular therapy is mandatory before deciding on a new treatment modality. clinicians that utilize the results of clinical trials to guide their practice need reliable tools for the evaluation of the clinical relevance of statistically significant results prior to the introduction of new cancer therapies. the purpose of this review is to propose the confidence intervals as useful tools to determine the clinical relevance of a treatment modality. the confidence interval attenuates the interpretation of clinical experiments solely on the basis of statistical criteria.
