Journal of Biophysical Chemistry (JBPC) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jbpc.2012.31006
Abstract: The present study was undertaken to elucidate how the plastic properties of model membranes from native lipids of different tissues of rats change in the course of Macrovipera lebetina obtuse (MLO), Montivipera raddei (MR) and Naja kaouthia (NK) venoms processing. The presence of viper venom in organism lead to increasing of the electrical resistance of BLMs from liver and muscle lipids approximately on a sequence, while the BLMs from brain lipids has not shown a noticeable differences of plastic properties compare the control. The same concentration of cobra venom leads to decreasing of electrical resistance of BLMs from 1011 Ohm till 108 Ohm. The low concentration of venom leads to appearance of channel activity. Especially it is noticeable in liver lipids in media of bivalen ions.

Revista Dor , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1806-00132011000300010
Abstract: background and objectives: different receptor systems are involved with central pain modulation: noradrenergic, serotoninergic and opioid among others. this study aimed at evaluating amitriptyline effects on pain modulation in rats submitted to sciatic nerve ligation. method: the sample was made up of 24 male wistar rats, mean weight of 300g, which were distributed in 5 groups: (c) control without treatment (n = 4), (lc) submitted to sciatic nerve ligation (n = 5), submitted to sciatic nerve ligation and treated with: (a) amitriptyline (n = 5), (r) reserpine (n = 5), (ar) reserpine + amitriptyline. all animals were submitted to modified formalin test. results: sciatic nerve ligation has decreased nociceptive response. reserpine administration has not interfered with pain response in formalin test phase 1. amitriptyline has restored pain response in formalin test phase 1, indicating peripheral nociception potentiation, and has decreased the number of flinches during the intermediate formalin test phase, in the absence or presence of reserpine, indicating potentiation of pain response inhibitory descending way. sciatic nerve ligation has decreased response in formalin test phase 2. amitriptyline has restored previously observed response. conclusion: treatment with amitriptyline and reserpine allows suggesting that in the peripheral neural injury model, norepinephrine participates in the injuring signal transduction, in the pain inhibitory descending way modulation and in the inflammation-induced nociception. the participation of other inflammatory response mediators and of serotonin should be considered.
Análise de conflitos socioambientais: atividades minerárias em comunidades rurais e áreas de Prote o Ambiental (APA)
Daniel Trento Nascimento,Maria Augusta Almeida Bursztyn
Desenvolvimento e Meio Ambiente , 2010,
Abstract: This article explores an environmental conflict that occurs in rural communities of Santa Cruz and Esperan a in the city of I ara, Santa Catarina State. The site of the conflict is also an environmental protected area (APA) and the dispute is with a large coal mining company that is trying to be installed in the same area. The case analysis was developed on the assumption that the increasing of environmental conflicts is one of the determining factors for the strengthening of environmental actions and for the formation oflocal environmental governance structures, and, consequently, for the institutionalization of the municipal environmental management. Therefore, after a theoretical review of environmental conflicts and coal mining in the region, the main actors and conditions that shaped the dispute were identified. Finally, based on conflict analysis, a conflict mapping was designed and the main outcomes of the conflict that confirms the research hypothesis were identified.

Journal of Water Resource and Protection (JWARP) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jwarp.2012.48071
Abstract: This study aims to analyze the effects of nutrients and predation by zooplankton on phytoplankton biomass (chlorophyll a) in a eutrophic reservoir in Brazil (Apipucos Reservoir, State of Pernambuco), through experiments in microcosms. For this, samples of water were placed in 1 L Erlenmeyer flasks and kept for seven days. Treatments included the addition of nutrients (nitrogen combined with phosphorus and isolated additions of nitrogen and phosphorus), with presence and absence of zooplankton and a control which contained the reservoir water without any manipulation. The addition of nutrients did not stimulate phytoplankton growth. However, zooplankton significantly decreased phytoplankton biomass in the treatments it was added to (p < 0.05). The results of this study showed that for the reservoir studied, predation by zooplankton is the most significant factor in the regulation of phytoplankton, contradicting several studies which show that phytoplankton biomass is more strongly controlled by nutrients (bottom-up control) than by predation (top-down control).

Journal of Software Engineering and Applications (JSEA) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/jsea.2015.89043
Abstract: The paper addresses a literature review of the technologies used in the transmission of measuring and logging data during well drilling. It presents a discussion about efficiency in data density transmission and reliability, especially when it comes to software and automated tools. Initially, this paper analyzes the principle of the telemetry systems, considering the mud pulse telemetry, acoustic telemetry, electromagnetic telemetry and wired drill pipe telemetry. They were detailed highlighting information about functionality, data transmission and its linkage to supporting software. Focus is also given to details of the main advantages and disadvantages of each technology considering the influences of lithology, drilling fluid and formation fluids in the reliability and capacity of data transmission.

Materials Research , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-14392005000300008
Abstract: the incorporation of micrometer sized silica particles on poly (ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) - eva - residues from the footwear industry was evaluated. the effects of the processing parameters - temperature and mixing ratio - on the mechanical behavior of molded plates of neat recycled eva and eva/silica composites were also investigated. the mechanical properties measured by the tensile test, the fractographic analysis by scanning electron microscopy (sem), and the 13c nuclear magnetic resonance (nmr) showed a reduced eva to silica compatibility. therefore, incorporation of untreated silica to recycled eva copolymer produced a slight decrease on the mechanical performance of eva/silica composites in respect to neat eva copolymer. the nmr analysis also shows that the crosslinking process on recycled eva may be occurring at the carbonyl group.
Aprendizagem colaborativa on-line na vis o dos alunos / Online colaborative learning from the students’ perspective
Nadja Naira Salgueiro Silva
Linguagens e Diálogos , 2011,
Abstract: This paper aims to investigate students’ views about the group activities in a post-graduation online course. The study is based on a theoretical foundation of collaborative learning (MYIAKE, 2007; PALLOFF & PRATT, 2004, 2005) and web 2.0 (O’REILLY, 2005). Regarding methodology, it is a qualitative research that adopts an ethnographic perspective and tools. Through online questionnaire and interviews conducted with students from the course, it was investigated what factors students point out as providers of collaborative learning and what factors inhibit it. The results indicate that some factors that promote collaborative learning are: clear instruction, negotiation, frequent interaction, commitment with the group. Some of the factors mentioned by the students that hinder collaborative learning are: short time to achieve the tasks, work overload, lack of commitment to the activity. Finally, there is a positive view of students in relation to collaborative activities.
Anti microbial and anti-oxidant properties of the isolated compounds from the methanolic extract from the leaves of Tectona grandis

Journal of Basic and Clinical Pharmacy , 2011,
Abstract: The compounds Gallic acid (GA), rutin(R), quercitin (Q), ellagic acid (EA) and sitosterol(S) were isolated from the methanolic extract of the leaves of Tectona grandis. These compounds were subjected to antimicrobial and antioxidant activity. The zone of inhibition of isolated compounds was evaluated by cup plate method against bacteria i.e.Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Eschericia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and fungi Candida albicans. The antioxidant activity of the extract and the isolated compounds were evaluated by using 1, 1-Diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl(DPPH). Rutin has shown significant anti microbial activity against both the gram positive and gram negative bacteria when compared to the other compounds. The results of the anti oxidant activity revealed that quercitin showed good activity followed by rutin gallic acid, ellagic acid and sitosterol. The difference in both these activities of the isolated compounds was attributed to the number and position of the phenolic OH groups.
Children and Persuasive Advertising: Drawing the Line between Peripheral and Informative TV Commercials
Gennadi Gevorgyan,Naira Manucharova
Journal of Politics and Law , 2012, DOI: 10.5539/jpl.v5n3p15
Abstract: With a goal of revealing the unique vulnerability of children in the face of advertisers’ targeting efforts, we revisit the philosophical and legal frameworks underlying the regulation of commercial speech that targets children. In doing so, we reexamine the rationale behind the constitutional protection of advertising within the context of children's information processing patterns and the manipulative nature of persuasive speech. We argue that some of the fundamental assumptions that underlie the protection of commercial speech lack validity when applied to children surrounded by today’s technologically advanced marketplace. We further argue that in regulating persuasive advertising, government should be given more leeway than it currently has under the Central Hudson test. Moreover, we believe that targeting children with persuasive messages should be proscribed on the grounds of being misleading under the Federal Trade Commission’s standard for deceptive commercial speech.
