Abstract: Herbal medicine has become a popular form of healthcare. Even though several differences exist between herbal and conventional pharmacological treatments, herbal medicine can be tested for efficacy using conventional trial methodology. Several specific herbal extracts have been demonstrated to be efficacious for specific conditions. Even though the public is often misled to believe that all natural treatments are inherently safe, herbal medicines do carry risks. Ultimately, we need to know which herbal remedies do more harm than good for which condition. Because of the current popularity of herbal medicine, research in this area should be intensified Caesalpinia pulcherrima, a plant widely used in the traditional medicinal systems of India has been reported to possess antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer and immunosuppressive activities. This review highlights some of the phytochemical and pharmacological aspects of the plant which has been searched during their detailed study.

Despite extensive research efforts, a preventive human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) vaccine remains one of the major challenges in the field of AIDS research. Experimental strategies which have been proven successful for other viral vaccines are not enough to tackle HIV-1 and new approaches to design effective preventive AIDS vaccines are of utmost importance. Due to enormous diversity among global circulating HIV strains, an effective HIV vaccine must elicit broadly protective antibodies based responses; therefore discovering new broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs) against HIV has become major focus in HIV vaccine research. However further understanding of the viral targets of such antibodies and mechanisms of action of bNAbs is required for advancement of HIV vaccine research. This technical note discusses our current knowledge on the bNAbs and immunoprophylaxis using viral vectors with their relevance in designing of new candidates to HIV-1 vaccines.

Spectrum of Atypical Presentation of Tubercular Infections of Central Nervous System—Case Series and Review of Literature  [PDF]

Abstract: Tubercular infections of central nervous system commonly present with hydrocephalus, basal exudates, infarcts, tuberculomas, etc. However, rarely there are atypical lesions which can pose greater difficulty in differentiating from other lesions like tumors. This case series describes the spectrum of such lesions, with review few individual reports found in literature. Clinical presentations were weakness of limbs, slurring of speech and underlying primary tubercular focus. The age group ranged from 16 - 60 years with M:F ratio being 1:1. Spectrum of such lesions is discussed here with emphasis on the role of magnetic resonance imaging in prompt diagnosis. Thus initiating an early conservative line of management and its follow up with aversion of neurointervention which has its own inherent complications, the final outcome is a reduction in morbidity and mortality (as noted in the follow up) as well as patient cost care.

Abstract: Pediatric head injury is one of the major health problems. That can be easily evaluated by computed tomographic scanning. This study describes the various findings of pediatric head trauma seen on CT scan, the timely diagnosis of which plays a vital role in prognosis, especially in semiurban and remote location where the decision for tertiary referral is important. Timely intervention in traumatic brain injury cases reduces morbidity and mortality. Cerebral edema, which is the most common intracranial lesion, can be promptly managed by medicosurgical support with ICP monitoring, thereby improving the overall prognosis. Other lesions commonly seen are subdural hematomas and skull fractures. Limitations of radiographs, ultrasound and MRI in these acute cases, highlight the benefit of CT scans.

Abstract: In this paper, a review of theoretical literature of models providing rational of corporate hedging is done and also addresses the corporate finance issues such as financing and investment. As per definition, hedging is either an insurance contract or an activity reducing the correlation between value and random variable linked with the derivative purchase. It is found that, when considering the modern finance theory after relaxing the assumptions made by Modigliani & Miller, the corporate hedging reduces several costs such as agency cost, distress cost and cost of debt. Also, hedging models are explained reducing the adverse selection problem. An integrated approach based models are also present in the review.

Abstract: Ontologies have emerged as an important tool in the Enterprise architecture discipline to provide the theoretical foundations for designing and representing the enterprise as a whole or a specific area or domain, in a scientific fashion. This paper examines the domain of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of the Sikorsky UH-60 helicopter involving multiple enterprises, and represents it through an ontology using the OWL Language and Protégé tool. The resulting ontology gives a formal and unambiguous model/representation of the MRO domain that can be used by multiple parties to arrive at a common shared conceptualization of the MRO domain. The ontology is designed to be conformant to ISO 13030 or the Product Life Cycle Support Standard (PLCS) standard, hence representing the state of being as per this standard especially at the interfaces between enterprises while incorporating existing reality to the greatest possible extent within the enterprises. As a result the ontology can be used to design Information Systems (IS) and their interfaces in all enterprises engaged in MRO to alleviate some of the issues present in the MRO area and to support business intelligence efforts.

Abstract: In this paper, we identify a set of factors that may be used to forecast software productivity and software development time. Software productivity was measured in function points per person hours, and software development time was measured in number of elapsed days. Using field data on over 130 field software projects from various industries, we empirically test the impact of team size, integrated computer aided software engineering (ICASE) tools, software development type, software development platform, and programming language type on the software development productivity and development time. Our results indicate that team size, software development type, software development platform, and programming language type significantly impact software development productivity. However, only team size significantly impacts software development time. Our results indicate that effective management of software development teams, and using different management strategies for different software development type environments may improve software development productivity.

Abstract: Since the launch of Napster in June 1999, peer-to-peer technology (P2P) has become synonymous with file sharing applications that are the bane of the recording industry due to copyright infringements and consequent revenue losses. P2P promised a revolution in business computing which has not arrived. It has become synonymous with illegal file sharing and copyright violations. Meanwhile the information systems industry has undergone a paradigm change, and we are supposedly living in a world of cloud computing and mobile devices. It is pertinent to examine if P2P, as a revolutionary technology, is still relevant and important today and will be in future. One has to examine this question in the context of the fact that P2P technologies have matured but have however had limited adoption outside file sharing in the consumer space. This paper provides a detailed analysis of P2P computing and offers some propositions to answer the question of the relevancy of P2P. It is proposed that P2P is still a relevant technology but may be reshaped in the coming years in a different form as compared to what exists today.

Abstract: Information Systems (IS) agility is a current topic of interest in the IS industry. The study follows up on the work on the definition of the construct of IS agility which is defined as the ability of IS to sense a change in real time; diagnose it in real time; and select and execute an action in real time. It explores the attributes for sensing in an Agile Information System. A set of attributes was initially derived using the practitioner literature and then refined using interviews with practitioners. Their importance and validity were established using a survey of the industry. All attributes derived from this study were deemed pertinent for sensing in an agile information system. Dimensions underlying these attributes were identified using Exploratory Factor Analysis. This list of attributes can form the basis for assessing and establishing sensing mechanisms to increase IS agility.

The Petri Net Pareto method proposed in this study has the advantages of acting directly on computing results by assessment of workflow process information. Our study contributes to the literature because it has investigated an ISO 31000 workflow process approach to group decision making for reducing backorders in the supply chain, from an integrated perspective utilizing Pareto charts and Petri nets. The contribution to the literature is also enhanced by the L-Project illustrative example that presents an evaluation hierarchy of supply chain risk. The proposed method is appropriate for use in situations in which assessment information may be qualitative or precise quantitative information is either unavailable or too costly to compute.
