Abstract: this research work was carried out on the castor bean crop in order to evaluate the uptake of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium; and the effects of limestone and fertilizers and the combined effects of both, on uptake of macronutrients mentioned above, plant dry weight and yield. the experiment were conducted in a yellow dark latossol, sandy phase. the maximum uptake period was not well caracterized, but for the treatments which received fertilizers, the greatest uptake for nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium was between 41 and 110 days; for calcium, between 41 and 87 days, after sowing. limestone had no effect on the plant dry weight and yield, but fertilizers increased the uptake of mineral nutrients, plant dry weight and yield.

Abstract: the present paper is carried out in order to study some problems related with leaves sampling for foliar diagnosis in potato. it has been found that the fourth leaf gave good results for the soil nitrogen status at 40 and 60 days after the planting time. both the leaflet and petiole of the fourth leaf gave good results for the soil phosphorus status. the data suggest that the diagnosis of this element in potato through the chemical analysis of the leaves must not be made very far from 40 days after the planting time. in respect to k and ca, the data did not permit to know which part of the leaf and what age of the plant is adequate for the sampling.

Abstract: this paper deals with two experiments on potato fertilization carried out in a sandy soil of alta sorocabana region, s?o paulo state, brazil. five npk fertilizers (6-16-12, 3-11-9, 5-10-10, 6-15-6 and 5-13-9) were compared for two periods in a year, applying 1,650 kg per hectare of each one. the results showed that the 5-10-10 mixture yielded more than other fertilizers, and it was economically best.

Abstract: this research work was carried out, utilizing the castor bean cultivars 'iac-38' and 'campinas', in order to evaluate the effects of increasing levels of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium and interaction of the levels of these three nutrients on yield. for this purpose, two experiments were conducted in 1968/69 and 1969/70, in a yellow dark latossol, sandy phase, located in s?o manuel, state of s?o paulo. these experiments were a 3 x 3 x 3 factorial design. the following levels were used: 30, 60 and 120 kg/ha of nitrogen; 40, 80 and 160 kg/ha of p2o5 and 20, 40 and 80 kg/ha of k2o. nitrogen and potassium did not increase yield when applied alone, but phosphorus showed positive effects when applied with potassium or alone. eighty kg/ha of p2o5 yielded 22,56% and 111,51% more beans than 40 kg/ha for cultivars iac-38 and ?campinas?, respectively. on the presence of 40 and 80 kg/ha of k2o, the yields with p2 and p3 were higher than that with p1. the results show also that phosphorus increased bean density.

Abstract: effects of thermal phosphates on a dark red latosol chemical properties and their agronomic efficiencies were evaluated in a pot experiment with three consecutive lettuce crops, at the soil science department/fca-unesp, botucatu, state of s?o paulo, brazil. treatments, along with a control check (without fertilizer), consisted of applications to soils of 200 mg p/dm3 as superphosphate, fine and coarse thermophosphate (with micronutrients) and thermophosphate-mg. soil samples were collected, for chemical anaylisis, from all pots before each lettuce transplanting and after last harvest. p, ca and mg soil availabilities after coarse thermophosphate dressing were overestimated by the ion exchange resin methodology. coarse thermophosphate was not effective in reducing soil acidity, while fine thermophosphate increased soil ph value. due to lower solubility, coarse thermophosphate applications resulted in lower lettuce yields and fertilizer efficiencies than those of fine thermophosphate.

Abstract: Visando avaliar as altera es químicas decorrentes da aplica o de termofosfatos em solo típico da regi o dos cerrados e a eficiência agron mica desses fertilizantes, realizou-se o presente trabalho, no período de novembro de 1993 a fevereiro de 1994, em casa de vegeta o telada, do Departamento de Ciência do Solo da Faculdade de Ciências Agron micas/UNESP, em Botucatu (SP). Utilizaram-se vasos ceramicos contendo 5 L de terra da camada arável de um latossolo vermelho-escuro álico, textura média, em três cultivos sucessivos de plantas de alface. Os tratamentos, além de um controle sem fósforo, foram constituídos por aplica es ao solo de 200 mg/dm3 de P na forma de superfosfato triplo (ST), termofosfato "Yoorin Master" em pó (TMpó) e granular (TMgr) e termofosfato "MG-Yoorin" em pó (T). As disponibilidades de fósforo, cálcio e magnésio no solo com termofosfato granular foram superestimadas pela extra o com resina trocadora apresentando valores superiores às demais fontes, n o compatíveis com as concentra es desses nutrientes no tecido foliar. O termofosfato magnesiano (T) proporcionou o maior acúmulo de fósforo na parte aérea das plantas. A capacidade de neutraliza o da acidez do solo dos termofosfatos em pó foi superior ao da forma granular. As diferen as no tamanho de partículas, alterando sensivelmente a solubilidade do termofosfato granular, proporcionaram produ es de biomassa e índice de eficiência agron mica dessa fonte infe-riores àqueles obtidos com os termofosfatos em pó.

Abstract: com o objetivo de estudar a resposta do amendoim à aplica??es isoladas e combinadas de n, de p, de k e ca, realizou-se um ensaio fatorial 23 para n p k, com aplica??o do calcáreo em metade de cada parcela. o experimento foi conduzido no município de bariri, estado de s?o paulo. apenas a calagem aumentou a produ??o significativamente. o potássio exerceu efeito positivo nas concentra??es de nitrogênio, de fósforo e de potássio das f?lhas, embora a sua concentra??o n?o tenha aumentado significativamente em todos os tratamentos. a correla??o entre teor de k nas f?lhas e a produ??o foi positiva e altamente significativa.

Abstract: this work was carried out in field conditions to study the effects of phosphorus increasing levels on the yield, seed oil contents and macronutrient concentration, except s, in the seeds and hulls of castor bean, cv. 'guarani'. six rates of phosphorus (0-40-80-120-160-200 kg of p205/ha) were used in randomized blocks, with five replications, on the low fertility of a s?o paulo state soil (lva). the results showed that phosphorus increased numbers of fruit per raceme, decreased hull percent in the fruit and increased seed weight per raceme. in consequence, there was a mean increase of the seed yield of 100,21%. with regard to nutrient contents in the fruits, it was verified an increase of phosphorus contents and a tendency to reduce the nitrogen contents in the harvested seeds from the treatment with phosphorus fertilization. phosphorus effects on oil contents of the seeds were not well noted. therefore, this will be better studied later.

Abstract: with the aim to verify as phosphorus can increase castor bean yield, an experiment was conducted, using the "campinas" cultivar. it was laid out during season of 1971-1972 and the experimental design was in randomized brodkss, with five replications and six rates of phosphorus, 0 - 40 - 80 - 120 - 160 - 200 kg of p2o5/ha. according to the data, the following conclusions can be drawn. there was an increase of the seed production of 320% when the data of the treatments with prosphorus were compared with that without phosphorus. this is due to the fact that phosphorus increased the number of fruits by raceme and by plot, the seed weight, and decreased the percentage of hulls in the fruits. among the racemes, the first one gave better response to phosphorus. fertilizer phosphorus application increased the phosphorus content of the seed and showed a tendency to diminish the nitrogen content of the hulls. the oil seed content was not affected by the phosphorus addition in soil.

Abstract: This paper examines optimal consumption/portfolio choices under stochastic habit formation in which it is uncertain how deep consumers would become in the habit of consuming in future. By extending Shroder and Skiadas [1] to stochastic habit formation, the optimization problem with stochastic habit forming preferences is transformed into that with simple time-additive preferences. Optimal portfolios are composed of the tangency portfolio and habit hedging portfolio. Resulting risk premia are characterized by consumption beta, which is proportionate to the covariance with consumption changes, and habit beta, defined by using the covariance with habit.
