Abstract:

Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is a group of genetically diverse hematopoietic malignancies arising from cell progenitors developing in the myeloid pathway or from primitive stem cells. Genetic susceptibility of AML may account for an increased risk of AML due to partial metabolism of or biocativation of carcinogens. Chemical compounds are metabolized by a two-tiered phase detoxifying system. Polymorphisms in these pathways may lead to DNA damage and development of AML. We determined the frequencies of carcinogen metabolism gene polymorphisms (CYP1A1, del{GSTM1} and del{GSTT1}) in a case control-study based on polymorphism analysis. Fifty-eight consecutively AML patients (median age 62 years) and 174 sex and age-matched control group were assessed by a PCR-RFLP assay. There were 51 de novo and 7 secondary AML. CYP1A1*2A and CYP1A1*2C polymorphisms were more frequent in CG than AML p < 0.001 and in contrast, CYP1A1*3 and CYP1A1*4 were more frequent in AML than CG p <

Distinguished self-adjoint extensions of Dirac operators via Hardy-Dirac inequalities
Naiara Arrizabalaga
Mathematics , 2011, DOI: 10.1063/1.3635376
Abstract: We prove some Hardy-Dirac inequalities with two different weights including measure valued and Coulombic ones. Those inequalities are used to construct distinguished self-adjoint extensions of Dirac operators for a class of diagonal potentials related to the weights in the above mentioned inequalities.

Abstract: the study consists is the application of zeolites nax, nay and a as builder in detergent formulations to eliminate the hardness of water. therefore, the adsorption of ions ca+2 and mg+2 were evaluated, and the effect of the cleaning action of the surfactant sodium dodecil sulfate (sds) through tests of detergency. the experiments were conducted in bath system (with shaking) and quantification of metals was performed by atomic absorption spectrometry. zeolite a showed the best results for adsorption of ca++ and mg++ with retention rates of around 90 and 70% respectively and acted positively on the action of cleaning the surfactant sds.
A morfologia histórica de Johan Huizinga e o caráter pragmático do passado
Naiara Santos Damas Ribeiro
História da Historiografia , 2010,
Abstract: A História ensina?
Endurance Sport Practice and Atrial Fibrillation
Naiara Calvo,Lluis Mont
Journal of Atrial Fibrillation , 2010, DOI: 10.4022/jafib.v2i2.581
Abstract: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac rhythm disorder in clinical practice, with an estimated prevalence of 0.4% to 1% in the general population, increasing with age to 8% in those older than 80 years. The recognized risk factors for developing AF include age, hypertension, structural heart disease, diabetes mellitus, and hyperthyroidism. However, the etiology remains unclear in a significant number of patients younger than age 60 in whom no cardiovascular disease or any other known causal factor is present. This condition is termed lone AF, and may be responsible for as many as 30% of patients with paroxysmal AF seeking medical attention. Although regular physical activity clearly reduces cardiovascular morbidity risk, in recent years long-term endurance sport practice has been recognized as a risk factor for AF. However, the underlying mechanism explaining this association is unclear.
Unique continuation for magnetic Schr?dinger operator with singular potentials

Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: In this paper we study unique continuation theorems for magnetic Schr\"odinger equation via Carleman estimates. We use integration by parts techniques in order to show these estimates. We consider electric and magnetic potentials with strong singularities at the origin and some decay at infinity.

Abstract: the investigation of the conditions necessary for infants to learn conditional discrimination is a challenge due to the difficulties related to maintaining small children in experimental conditions. the objective was to teach matching identity tasks to a 12-month-old infant in a experimenter organized in a room at a daycare center. toys used as stimuli were displayed in an apparatus consisting of three windows cutout in a box, in front of which sat an experimenter with the infant. the trials began with the opening of the windows and the display of stimuli: in the case of the selection of the stimulus defined as s+, the infant could take the toy and play, in the case of the selection of s- the windows were closed until the following trial. in the matching phase with the model, a stimulus identical to one of the comparison stimuli was first presented in the center window of the apparatus. constant analyses of the participant?s performance were carried out to manipulate the variables in force to maintain the infant in the experimental situation and to perform the proposed tasks. the discussion relates the quality of performance to the control exercised by variables such as social contact with the experimenter, alterations in the duration of tasks and variety of stimuli.
Genetic polymorphism of GSTM1 in women with breast cancer and interact with reproductive history and several clinical pathologies

Abstract: Due to the conflicting results regarding the association between breast cancerand the GSTM1 null mutation, our aim was to research this associationin a Brazilian population and correlations withsmoking, reproductive history and several clinical pathologies. A case-control study was performed on 105 women with breast cancer and 278 controls. Extraction of DNA was accomplished according to the protocol of the GFX kit and polymorphism analysis by the PCR technique. The control and experimental groups were compared and statistical analysis assessed by X2 or Fisher's exact test. The deletion in the GSTM1 gene in the breast cancer group had a prevalence of 32 (30.4%) individuals with the presence of null mutation. In the control group, the null mutation was present in 104 (37.4%) women. Upon comparison of the two groups, no statistically significant difference of the GSTM1 gene was observed, with an odds ratio (OR) of 0.74, 95%, confidence interval (CI) 0.45 - 1.20, p = 0.277. The results conclusively show that singlegene GSTM1 polymorphisms do not confer a substantial risk of breastcancer to its carriers. Furthermore, in this study no correlation was found between GSTs andsmoking, reproductive history and several clinical pathologies with respect to cancer risk.
