Abstract: The present study investigates developmental differences in Mandarin-speaking children’s use of emotion expressions in narratives and their relatedness to the narrators’ knowledge of story structure. Our data yield age-related differences in the use of emotion expressions. More importantly, the narrators’ emotion expressions seem to respond to different hierarchical levels in the story structure. In particular, the five-year-olds’ emotion expressions were mostly triggered by local, immediate situations. Most nine-year-olds’ emotion expressions were motivated by local situations, while few of them considered both local and global story structure. The adults’ attribution of emotion, however, was triggered by both local situations and the global story plotline, which served to enhance narrative coherence. In addition, the five-year-olds’ attribution of emotion mostly focused on one character in the story, while the adults’ attribution involved several characters, which suggests that the adults possess better ability in perspective-taking. Our data suggest that the use of emotion expressions may disclose narrators’ knowledge of story structure and reflect their ability in maintaining narrative coherence. Findings are discussed in relation to the development of event schema, theory of mind and the Three-Phase Model for problem-solving.
Discussion of time and space differentiation of three-yin and three-yang in Shanghan Lun
MA Wen-Hui
Zhong Xi Yi Jie He Xue Bao , 2005,
Abstract: The concept of "three-yin and three-yang" in Shanghan Lun (Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases), a classic written by Zhang Zhongjing in Han Dynasty, has been always the focus of dispute in successive dynasties. The essence of "three-yin and three-yang" has not been fully revealed up till now. Through studying the six divisions of day and night, the six diseases, the combination of syndromes, the complicated diseases, the complete recovery time and the space division of "three-yin and three-yang", the authors draw a conclusion that the "three-yin and three-yang" in Shanghan Lun is a concept of time-sequence, which is associated with the location of disease in space. So it is suggested that the "six diseases" in Shanghan Lun is a categorization for exogenous febrile diseases, and this categorization reveals a sort of inner relationship between the emergence, development, transformation of the febrile diseases and the time.

Abstract: This paper investigates the tracking problem of space robot with uncertainties, without using the estimation values of a model, and puts forward a neural-network control scheme with sliding-mode variable structure.A radial-basis-function(RBF) neural-network controller based on Lyapunov theory is designed to compensate for the unknown nonlinearity in the system. The neural-network controller guarantees the stability of the closed-loop system. The controller that inte-grates the neutral network with the variable ...

Research Progress on Manifold Hydrocarbon Source and Its Trace System in Marine Strata

LIU Wen-hui,

天然气地球科学 , 2009,
Abstract: The important breakthroughs in marine petroleum exploration recently show that the enormous exploration potential and new progress of theoretical research on oil and gas geology, including the theory on hydrocarbon generation: multiformity of type of hydrocarbon source and conversion in marine strata, indicate that manifold hydrocarbon sources coexist in mutual conversion, and in continuous or superposed hydrocarbon generation despite different phases or ages, present the mechanism of "multi-source complex and multi-stage continuity" on formation and evolution of natural gases; preliminary trace index system are proposed; experimental geology and experimental methods & analytical techniques are developing quickly; the biodegradation of modern algae and the simulating experiments of modern algae thermal evolution, catalytic hydropyrolysis from the higher evolved organic sediment, and the compositions of noble gases and their isotopic quantitative analysis are presenting a good research platform and experimental techniques for the in-depth studies on the theory of hydrocarbon generation and perfect the trace index system. Whereas, the marine petroleum exploration is still faced with many challenges, which include many unresolved questions relating to the mechanism, index, and technique for effective revealing of main hydrocarbon source, so the theory of hydrocarbon generation is up for perfection, and the composite application of multiple index and development of new index is still an important way.
The Twenty-five Maiden Ladies’ Tomb and Predicaments of the Feminist Movement in Taiwan
Anru Lee,Wen-hui Anna Tang
Journal of Current Chinese Affairs , 2010,
Abstract: “The Twenty-five Maiden Ladies’ Tomb” is the collective burial site of the female workers who died in a ferry accident on their way to work in 1973. The fact that of the more than 70 passengers on board all 25 who died were unmarried young women, and the taboo in Taiwanese culture that shuns unmarried female ghosts, made the Tomb a fearsome place. Feminists in Gaoxiong (高雄) had for some years wanted the city government to change the tomb’s public image. Their calls were not answered until the Gaoxiong mayor’s office finally allocated money to clean up the gravesite and, as part of the city’s plans to develop urban tourism, to remake it into the tourist-friendly “Memorial Park for Women Labourers”. Consequently, even though the tomb renovation seemed to indicate a triumph of the feminist endeavour, it was more a result of the Gaoxiong city government’s efforts towards culture-led urban revitalization.
Interactions between House Prices, Stock Prices and Monetary Policy—Using Recursive VAR  [PDF]

American Journal of Industrial and Business Management (AJIBM) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ajibm.2013.38074

This paper uses a recursive VAR model to analyze the effects of monetary policy shock and the role of house price and stock price shocks. The data come from the first quarter of 1993 to the second quarter of 2010 in Taiwan. There is empirical evidence suggesting that house prices and stock prices do not play the role of a transmission mechanism for monetary policy shocks. When house prices increase, stock prices undergo a simultaneous and significant increase, but this effect gradually disappears. As house prices increase, the interest rate is simultaneously and positively affected; this effect is insignificant until after the second quarter. As stock prices increase, house prices are positively affected, which is consistent with the sign of the expected value, but the effect is insignificant. Under increasing stock prices, the interest rate simultaneously increases, and this effect is significant during the third and tenth quarters.

Mathematics , 2013, DOI: 10.11948/2015049
Abstract: In the paper, the authors concisely survey and review some functions involving the gamma function and its various ratios, simply state their logarithmically complete monotonicity and related results, and find necessary and sufficient conditions for a new function involving the ratio of two gamma functions and originating from the coding gain to be logarithmically completely monotonic.

Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: In the paper, by finding linear relations of differences between some means, the authors supply a unified proof of some double inequalities for bounding Neuman-S\'andor means in terms of the arithmetic, harmonic, and contra-harmonic means and discover some new sharp inequalities involving Neuman-S\'andor, contra-harmonic, root-square, and other means of two positive real numbers.
Integral representations and properties of some functions involving the logarithmic function
Feng Qi,Wen-Hui Li
Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: By using Cauchy integral formula in the theory of complex functions, the authors establish some integral representations for the principal branches of several complex functions involving the logarithmic function, find some properties, such as being operator monotone function, being complete Bernstein function, and being Stieltjes function, for these functions, and verify a conjecture on complete monotonicity of a function involving the logarithmic function.
