On convex-cyclic operators

Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: We give a Hahn-Banach Characterization for convex-cyclicity. We also obtain an example of a bounded linear operator $S$ on a Banach space with $\sigma_{p}(S^*)=\emptyset$ such that $S$ is convex-cyclic, but $S$ is not weakly hypercyclic and $S^2 $ is not convex-cyclic. This solved two questions of Rezaei in \cite{Rezaei} when $\sigma_p(S^*)=\varnothing$. %Recently, Le\'on-Saavedra and Romero de la Rosa \cite{LeRo} provide an example of a convex-cyclic operator $S$ such that the power $S^n$ fails to be convex-cyclic with $\sigma _p(S^*)\neq \varnothing$. In fact they solved tree questions posed by Rezaei in \cite{Rezaei}. Moreover, we prove that $m$-isometries are not convex-cyclic and that $\varepsilon$-hypercyclic operators are convex-cyclic. We also characterize the diagonalizable normal operators that are convex-cyclic and give a condition on the eigenvalues of an arbitrary operator for it to be convex-cyclic. We show that certain adjoint multiplication operators are convex-cyclic and show that some are convex-cyclic but no convex polynomial of the operator is hypercyclic. Also some adjoint multiplication operators are convex-cyclic but not 1-weakly hypercyclic.

Abstract:

Introduction and Objectives: The natural history of patients with left main coronary artery disease (LMCAD) is largely unknown. Our objective was to analyse the predictors of long-term mortality in these patients, both those that have had surgery and those that have not undergone surgery for various reasons, in a cohort treated at a university hospital. Methods: The study included patients with significant LMCAD diagnosed through consecutive coronary angiograms from 2001 to 2009. Clinical variables, the reasons for cardiac catheterisation, therapeutic decisions and clinical evolution in long-term follow-up were analysed. Results: Of the 163 patients included in the analysis, a total of 109 (66.9%) underwent revascularisation, while the remaining 54 (33.1%) received other medical treatment. We analysed the clinical events that took place with a mean follow-up period of 54 months (IQR: 25-95). The non-revascularised group had a lower survival rate than the revascularised group in unadjusted analysis (logrank test 0.005). Age (OR 1.04, CI 1.02-1.07, p = 0.001), ventricular dysfunction (OR 2.87, CI95% 1.71-4.81, p < 0.0001), clinical instability (OR 2.11, CI95% 1.08 to 4.13, p = 0.028) and above 70% severity of LMCAD (OR 1.78, CI 1.09 to 2.91, p = 0.021) were independent predictors of mortality for the entire cohort, but revascularisation was not. Conclusions: Revascularisation is associated with improved survival in patients with LMCAD, but only age, ventricular dysfunction, clinical instability and the severity of the lesion are independent predictors of long-term

Abstract: the tuberculosis is one of the infectious diseases responsible for high rates of morbi-mortality at world-wide level. the therapy of short duration (dots) recommended by the organization of the health (who) includes drugs isoniazid, rifampin, pyrazinamide, streptomycin and ethambutol. unfortunately, strategy dots stops being the therapeutic option for patients infected with multidrug-resistant m.tuberculosis (mdr-tb) defined as tb resistant to at least isoniazid and rifampicin. the resistance to drugs in m. tuberculosis predominantly derives from alterations in genes that encodes antibiotic targets and until the present multiple chromosomal mutations associated to the development of resistance to first line drugs have been identified. the characterization of these mutations has lead to the development of new strategies for molecular diagnosis that could shorten the period of report of the drugs resistance pattern in m. tuberculosis. the early detection of resistant to first line drugs, provides useful insights for better therapeutic management of patient with second line drugs and decreasing the risk of propagation of tb-mdr strains.

Abstract: diabetic mellitus is a syndrome with disordered metabolism and inappropriate hyperglycemia due to either a deficiency of insulin secretion or to a combination of insulin resistance and inadequate insulin secretion to compensate. type 2 diabetes is the most prevalent form and results from insulin resistance, mainly caused by visceral obesity, with a defect incompensatory insulin secretion. various experimental methods and modelling approaches have been developed to assess in vivo insulin resistance in men, the hyperinsulinemic euglicemic glucose clamp technique is the "gold standard" for quantifying sensitivity in vivo, however, the glucose clamp is no easily applied in large scale investigations because iv infusion of insulin, frequent blood samples over a 3-h period, and continuous adjustment of a glucose infusion are required for each subjects studied. homeostasis model assessment (homa) approach is one of the simplest methods that provide indices of insulin secretion and insulin resistance derived from fasting plasma glucose and fasting plasma insulin levels, thus, it can be reliably used in large - scale or epidemiological studies in which only a fasting blood sample is available to assess insulin sensitivity. therefore, the ability to easily quantify insulin sensitivity in large number of subjects may be useful for investigating the role of insulin resistance in the pathophysiology of these major public health problems.
