Abstract: El procés tan intens d’arribada de població nouvinguda a Catalunya i a l’Estat espanyol ha tingut un gran impacte en la incorporació a les escoles, des de la meitat de la dècada de 1990, d’infants i joves de procedències diverses. L’acollida d’alumnat immigrat ha suscitat diferents actuacions polítiques, socials i educatives durant aquests anys. En aquest article s’analitzen les mesures que s’han posat en marxa a Vic, des de 1997 fins a 2010, amb la finalitat d’aportar elements de reflexió i contribuir a millorar l’acollida educativa i social de la població escolar nouvinguda i de les seves famílies. _____________________________________________ Le processus si intense d’arrivée d’une nouvelle population en Catalogne et dans le reste de l’Espagne a eu un impact important sur l’incorporation dans les écoles, depuis le milieu des années 1990, d’enfants jeunes et très jeunes de provenances diverses. L’accueil d’élèves immigrés a suscité différentes interventions politiques, sociales et éducatives au cours de ces dernières années. Dans cet article, nous analysons les mesures qui ont été mises en oeuvre à Vic(prov. de Barcelone), de 1997 à 2010, dans le but d’apporter des éléments de réflexion et de contribuer à améliorer l’accueil éducatif et social de la population scolaire nouvelle-venue ainsi que des familles. The arrival of very high numbers of new immigrants in Catalonia and the rest of Spain has had a major impact on school admissions of children and young people from different countries since the mid-1990s. The reception of immigrant students has led to various political, social and educational actions during this period. In this paper, we analyse the measures that were implemented in the town of Vic from 1997 to 2010. The aim is to raise some points for reflection and contribute to improving the social and educational reception of newly arrived immigrant students and their families. Catalunya y el Estado Espa ol han recibido, en los últimos 20 a os, un creciente número de población de distintas procedencias geográficas. Esta ha tenido un fuerte impacto en los centros educativos con la creciente incorporación de alumnado recién llegado. La recepción del alumnado inmigrado ha suscitado diferentes actuaciones políticas, sociales y educativas durante estos a os. En este artículo se analizan las medidas que se han puesto en marcha en Vic, desde 1997 hasta el 2010, con la finalidad de aportar elementos de reflexión y contribuir a mejorar la acogida educativa y social de la población escolar recién llegada y la de sus familias.

L’autora analitza, mitjan ant un recorregut històric dels últims cent anys, les diferents propostes per al desenvolupament curricular de les Matemàtiques a l’escolarització obligatòria. This article presents how throughout the twentieth century mathematics teaching staff from different countries have looked for answers to the question about what and how to teach this subject. The author analyzes, through a historical study of the last one hundred years, the different proposals to develop the mathematics plan of study in compulsory education. El artículo presenta como, a lo largo del siglo XX, los educadores en Matemáticas de diversos países han buscado respuestas a la pregunta sobre qué y como ense ar esta materia. La autora analiza, mediante un recorrido histórico de los últimos cien a os, las diferentes propuestas para el desarrollo curricular de las Matemáticas en la escolarización obligatoria.

Abstract: The purpose of this review is analyzing provision of agricultural sewage sludge as abiofertilizer in terms economic and productive rather than being deposited in landfills. Sewage sludge isconsidered an excellent biofertilizers because of organic matter amount and macro and micronutrients containedin them, thus contributing to the decreased industrial fertilizers use and reduction in fertilization costs. Itsagricultural recycling must obey the quality rules of this material, soil type, environmental constraints,application rate and crop recommended. Landfills ensure the correct destination when this waste unsuitable forother uses or excess demand. For this residue become considered raw material, studies are needed that confirmthe safety of its use to the environment and human health.O objetivo dessa revis o é analisar a disposi o agrícola do lodo de esgoto como potencialbiofertilizante, do ponto de vista produtivo e econ mico em detrimento de sua deposi o em aterros sanitários. Olodo de esgoto é considerado um excelente biofertilizante devido à quantidade de matéria organica e macro emicronutrientes nele contidos, contribuindo assim, com a diminui o do uso de fertilizantes industriais e redu onos custos de aduba o. Sua reciclagem agrícola deve obedecer às regras que definem as exigências de qualidadedo material, limita es ambientais e edáficas, taxa de aplica o e cultura agrícola recomendada. Os aterrossanitários garantem o destino correto deste resíduo quando inadequado para os demais usos ou excedentes àdemanda. Para que esse resíduo venha a ser considerado matéria-prima, s o necessários estudos que confirmem aseguran a de seu uso ao meio ambiente e à saúde humana.
RENTABILIDADE EFETIVA E RENTABILIDADE TOTAL DO CULTIVO DE MILHO ADUBADO COM LODO DE ESGOTO

Abstract: : In this study, we calculated effective and total economic rentability about corn production fertilized with sewage sludge. The corn was cultivated on a minimal tillage treatment in a field experiment. The trial was carried out during 2002/2003, set up on an oxisol area of 1/16 ha The farming operations were detailed to specify machinery, equipment, manpower, materials consumed and hours worked. Operating costs, calculated accordingto the methodology of the IEA, were subtracted from revEste trabalho teve como objetivo calcular as rentabilidades efetiva e total do cultivo de milho adubado com lodo de esgoto. O experimento, cuja produtividade média foi de 375,38 kg, foi instalado no ano agrícola 2002/2003, em Latossolo Vermelho eutroférrico e conduzido com milho AGROMEN 3150, através de cultivo mínimo. A dimens o da área experimental estudada foi de 625m2. As opera es de cultivo foram detalhadas para especificar máquinas, equipamentos, m o-de-obra, insumos consumidos e horas trabalhadas. Os custos operacionais, calculados conforme a metodologia do IEA, foram subtraídos da receita, resultando nas rentabilidades. Os resultados de rentabilidade efetiva (R$55,80) e total (R$40,70) apontam que a aplica o de lodo de esgoto é economicamente rentável.

Abstract: Septic arthritis is a rheumatological emergency due to its potential for rapid articular destruction and permanent functional loss. Its incidence ranges between 4 and 29 cases per 100,000 person-years, and depends on population variables and preexisting structural joint abnormalities. Clinical manifestations, severity, treatment and prognosis depend on the aetiologic agent, patient basal status and articulation involved. The sternoclavicular and condrosternal articulations are rarely affected. A 24 years old man presented with fever and right shoulder pain. Physical examination revealed swelling, redness, increased local heat, intense pain and functional impairment of the patient’s right shoulder. Laboratory inflammatory markers were elevated. Right sternoclavicular articulation ultrasound, right sternoclavicular articulation X-ray, and galium bone scan have shown sternoclavicular arthritis and medial clavicular osteomyelitis. Blood cultures identified Staphylococcus aureus methicillin sensitive. The patient completed a six week antibiotic regimen and physical rehabilitation program. Herein, the authors report a case of sternoclavicular septic arthritis complicated with osteomyelitis and review aetiology, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of this rare medical condition.
Attitudes of University Students to Some Verbal Anti-Sexist Forms  [PDF]

Abstract:

After more than two decades of non-sexist linguistic policies in Spain, a survey was carried out to evaluate the positive or negative attitude of almost 500 students from two Madrid universities to the most controversial verbal forms advocated in Spanish non-sexist linguistic policies: 1) the use of @ (as in alumn@s [students]); 2) the use of dual gender (as in alumnos y alumnas [students- masc and students-fem]); 3) the use of feminine terms for some women’s professional titles and occupations (i.e. ingeniera [engineer-fem], bedela [caretaker-fem], arquitecta [architect-fem], médica [physician-fem], aparejadora [quantity surveyor-fem], gerenta [manager-fem], perita [ex- pert-fem], cancillera* [chancellor-fem]); 4) the use of non-sexed collective nouns (as in profeso- rado [teaching staff]). Our aims were to know to what degree these resources were accepted by highly-educated young people, whether differences exist between the attitudes of men and women with respect to these forms, and which of these uses was the best accepted and which the least. Various examples of these non-sexist uses were presented to university students, who were asked to make a pronouncement on the feeling which these gave them or whether they used them. Our study concluded that the @ symbol and collective nouns are widely accepted among the student community. The dual gender seems to be also accepted, although greater vacillation was seen and sometimes the levels of rejection or indifference are higher. Nevertheless, of the four uses studied, the one which appears to provoke the greatest hesitation, vacillation or even opposition is the use of the feminine for some names of professions. In general, the number of female students in favour of the four features studied exceeds the number of male students.

Abstract: RESUMEN: El presente artículo pretende mostrar los resultados de una investigación llevada a cabo en un centro de ense anzas medias de Castilla-La Mancha, el IES Airén de Tomelloso (Ciudad Real). En él se trata de relacionar los estilos de aprendizaje del alumnado de 1o ciclo de ESO con sus aplicaciones e implicaciones en el campo académico de una materia determinada, la Música. El trabajo se sustenta en los datos obtenidos a través de dos cuestionarios, uno de reconocido prestigio (CHAEA) y otro de creación propia (ESTMUS) que pretenden determinar las relaciones existentes entre los aprendizajes musicales y los estilos de aprendizaje. Los resultados confirmaron la validez de nuestro cuestionario al reconocerle cerca de un 75 % de coincidencia entre las respuestas de los alumnos de nuestra muestra. Aunque no se observó un estilo de aprendizaje claramente predominante, destacan las personas en las que predomina el estilo de aprendizaje reflexivo en ambos casos. ABSTRACT: This article aims to show the results of research conducted in secondary schools of Castilla-La Mancha, IES Airen of Tomelloso (Ciudad Real). It seeks to relate the learning styles of students of 1 cycle of ESO with its applications and implications in the academic field of a specific subject Music. The work is based on data obtained through two questionnaires, a prestigious (CHAE) and one own creation (ESTMUS) seeking to determine the relationship between music learning and learning styles. The results confirmed the validity of our questionnaire to recognize about 75% overlap between the responses of students in our sample. Although not observed clearly predominant learning style, outstanding people in the predominantly reflexive learning style in both cases.

Abstract: in a society that reproduces itself within a domination pattern, psychology as a multisided discipline provides the possibility of containing both violence and the tendency of replacing barbarity. the latter masks its self-generating objective factors, whereas its opponent searches for the subjective conditions maintaining the objective irrationality, and so understands that the critic of knowledge must be the critic of society. psychology has no answers and at the same time refuses to investigate the dialectics that would uncover social antagonism, in the way that is indicated in adorno's sentence, written in 1955, that is the title of this essay. although being completely blind about the elements generating totality, one might find signs of truly progress indicating that, although something was possible, it was never brought to be effective. reaching freedom and happiness might be an objective task in a way to overcome rules of self-conservation. nevertheless, human beings find themselves completely lost and the only possible way of resist rests upon knowing the limits of prison. the thought that psychology should be responsible for working directly with suffering is ideological; it is necessary to struggle against what produces suffering and not to create ways of maintaining the illusion that the suffering does not exist.

Heme Oxygenase-1 Protects Retinal Endothelial Cells against High Glucose- and Oxidative/Nitrosative Stress-Induced Toxicity

Abstract: Diabetic retinopathy is a leading cause of visual loss and blindness, characterized by microvascular dysfunction. Hyperglycemia is considered the major pathogenic factor for the development of diabetic retinopathy and is associated with increased oxidative/nitrosative stress in the retina. Since heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) is an enzyme with antioxidant and protective properties, we investigated the potential protective role of HO-1 in retinal endothelial cells exposed to high glucose and oxidative/nitrosative stress conditions. Retinal endothelial cells were exposed to elevated glucose, nitric oxide (NO) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Cell viability and apoptosis were assessed by MTT assay, Hoechst staining, TUNEL assay and Annexin V labeling. The production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) was detected by the oxidation of 2′,7′-dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetate. The content of HO-1 was assessed by immunobloting and immunofluorescence. HO activity was determined by bilirubin production. Long-term exposure (7 days) of retinal endothelial cells to elevated glucose decreased cell viability and had no effect on HO-1 content. However, a short-time exposure (24 h) to elevated glucose did not alter cell viability, but increased both the levels of intracellular ROS and HO-1 content. Moreover, the inhibition of HO with SnPPIX unmasked the toxic effect of high glucose and revealed the protection conferred by HO-1. Oxidative/nitrosative stress conditions increased cell death and HO-1 protein levels. These effects of elevated glucose and HO inhibition on cell death were confirmed in primary endothelial cells (HUVECs). When cells were exposed to oxidative/nitrosative stress conditions there was also an increase in retinal endothelial cell death and HO-1 content. The inhibition of HO enhanced ROS production and the toxic effect induced by exposure to H2O2 and NOC-18 (NO donor). Overexpression of HO-1 prevented the toxic effect induced by H2O2 and NOC-18. In conclusion, HO-1 exerts a protective effect in retinal endothelial cells exposed to hyperglycemic and oxidative/nitrosative stress conditions.
