Residential Difference and Settlement Intention: Based on Ordered Logit Model  [PDF]

Abstract: Based on the survey of the National Dynamic Monitoring of the Floating Population of China in 2014, this paper applies ordered logit model to present statistical evidence showing how residential difference can lead to variations in the probabilities of settlement of the floating population. The empirical results show that the residential difference is positively related to the settlement intensions of migrant workers. Specifically, the probability of settlement for the people who live in commercial housing is the highest, followed by those living in government subsidized housing and rental private housing, while those living in work unit housing is the lowest. Therefore, in order to promote the process of urbanization, we should respect migrants’ settlement intensions and achieve the goal of their permanent settlement by improving the multi-level residential pattern and establishing a multiple security housing supply systems.

Abstract: China’s recent waves of internal migration, primarily rural to urban reflect a rapidly urbanizing society. However, how to settle down the migrants to promote the process of urbanization, housing problem has become a central topic among scholars. This article mainly reviews the present situation of migrant housing in urban China from four aspects, such as housing choice, spatial distribution of residence, housing condition and housing satisfactory. Based on residential segregation and social exclusion theory, the research finds that the country’s unique institutional factors, particularly the existing household registration system, together with the individual characteristics, contribute to the overall poor conditions of migrant housing. Thus, several effective measures should be implemented to improve the living standard of migrant housing.

Abstract: Nonparametric method based on the mutual information is an efficient technique for the image segmentation. In this method, the image is divided into the internal and external labeled regions, and the segmentation problem constrained by the total length of the region boundaries will be changed into the maximization of the mutual information between the region labels and the image pixel intensities. The maximization problem can be solved by deriving the associated gradient flows and the curve evolutions. One of the advantages for this method does not need to choose the segmentation parameter; another is not sensitive to the noise. By employing the narrowband levelset and Fast Gauss Transformation, the computation time is reduced clearly and the algorithm efficiency is greatly improved.

An Automatic Text Region Positioning Method for the Low-Contrast Image  [PDF]

Abstract: Text extraction is the key step in the character recognition; its accuracy highly relies on the location of the text region. In this paper, we propose a new method which can find the text location automatically to solve some regional problems such as incomplete, false position or orientation deviation occurred in the low-contrast image text extraction. Firstly, we make some pre-processing for the original image, including color space transform, contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization, Sobel edge detector, morphological method and eight neighborhood processing method (ENPM) etc., to provide some results to compare the different methods. Secondly, we use the connected component analysis (CCA) method to get several connected parts and non-connected parts, then use the morphology method and CCA again for the non-connected part to erode some noises, obtain another connected and non-connected parts. Thirdly, we compute the edge feature for all connected areas, combine Support Vector Machine (SVM) to classify the real text region, obtain the text location coordinates. Finally, we use the text region coordinate to extract the block including the text, then binarize, cluster and recognize all text information. At last, we calculate the precision rate and recall rate to evaluate the method for more than 200 images. The experiments show that the method we proposed is robust for low-contrast text images with the variations in font size and font color, different language, gloomy environment, etc.

Hopf Bifurcation Analysis for the van der Pol Equation with Discrete and Distributed Delays

Abstract: We consider the van der Pol equation with discrete and distributed delays. Linear stability of this equation is investigated by analyzing the transcendental characteristic equation of its linearized equation. It is found that this equation undergoes a sequence of Hopf bifurcations by choosing the discrete time delay as a bifurcation parameter. In addition, the properties of Hopf bifurcation were analyzed in detail by applying the center manifold theorem and the normal form theory. Finally, some numerical simulations are performed to illustrate and verify the theoretical analysis.
Combination Synchronization of Three Identical or Different Nonlinear Complex Hyperchaotic Systems

Abstract: In this paper, we investigate the combination synchronization of three nonlinear complex hyperchaotic systems: the complex hyperchaotic Lorenz system, the complex hyperchaotic Chen system and the complex hyperchaotic L¨u system. Based on the Lyapunov stability theory, corresponding controllers to achieve combination synchronization among three identical or different nonlinear complex hyperchaotic systems are derived, respectively. Numerical simulations are presented to demonstrate the validity and feasibility of the theoretical analysis.
Synchronization of a Novel Hyperchaotic Complex-Variable System Based on Finite-Time Stability Theory

Abstract: In this paper, we investigate the finite-time synchronization problem of a novel hyperchaotic complex-variable system which generates 2-, 3- and 4-scroll attractors. Based on the finite-time stability theory, two control strategies are proposed to realize synchronization of the novel hyperchaotic complex-variable system in finite time. Finally, two numerical examples have been provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical analysis.

Abstract: We investigate the quantum anomalous Hall Effect (QAHE) and related chiral transport in the millimeter-size (Cr0.12Bi0.26Sb0.62)2Te3 films. With high sample quality and robust magnetism at low temperatures, the quantized Hall conductance of e2/h is found to persist even when the film thickness is beyond the two-dimensional (2D) hybridization limit. Meanwhile, the Chern insulator-featured chiral edge conduction is manifested by the non-local transport measurements. In contrast to the 2D hybridized thin film, an additional weakly field-dependent longitudinal resistance is observed in the 10 quintuple-layer film, suggesting the influence of the film thickness on the dissipative edge channel in the QAHE regime. The extension of QAHE into the three-dimensional thickness region addresses the universality of this quantum transport phenomenon and motivates the exploration of new QAHE phases with tunable Chern numbers. In addition, the observation of the scale-invariant dissipationless chiral propagation on a macroscopic scale makes a major stride towards ideal low-power interconnect applications.
