OBJECTIVE: To analyze a case series of patients who underwent injection of industrial liquid silicone in a clandestine manner and by unauthorized persons. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of medical records of patients treated between September 2003 and December 2010. Data regarding gender, age, location and volume of silicone injected, time between application and clinical manifestations, complications, treatment and outcome were collected. Early manifestations were defined as occurring within 30 days of injection and late manifestations, the ones arising after this period. RESULTS: We treated 12 patients, eight were male, seven transsexuals. The volume injected ranged from 5ml to 2000ml, being unknown in three cases. The most often used injected sites were the thighs and buttocks. Eight patients had early manifestations, with inflammation and/or infection. Surgical debridement was necessary in five cases. Three patients with a history of injection in the breast region underwent adenomastectomy. There was one death due to refractory septic shock. CONCLUSION: The use of industrial liquid silicone should be completely contraindicated as a filling material and modification of body contouring, and may have serious complications,

Abstract:

This study presents and discusses trough a phenomenologic qualitative method summed up with an empirical insertion in the challenges of an education project on digital education for special, regular students and also a glace to long distance learning and teaching, in an Experimental School in Brazil. The discussions show the complexity but also the possibility of educational advances, to envision the advantages of the respect for students’ differences, in parallel to educators support and the significance of the aggregation of traditional methods and modern technologies in learning situations for all possible advantages from emotional to multiple intelligences for better living conditions.

Einstein (S?o Paulo) , 2005,
Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the results of treating axillaryhyperhidrosis by vacuum curettage. Methods: Vacuumcurettage was performed in 37 patients to treat axillaryhyperidrosis, from May 1999 to December 2005. Based on thereason for patients looking for treatment (interference in theirquality of life), the evaluation criterion was a validated selfapplicablequestionnaire called “The Dermatology Life QualityIndex”. Statistical analysis was performed by means of Z scoreconsidering as significant the p value < 0.05. Results: In a groupof 73 axillae (37 patients), after applying the questionnaire, amean score of 15.4 (10-20) was obtained in the preoperativeperiod out of a maximum of 30 points, which represented thelowest quality of life. The mean score in the postoperative periodwas 2.0 (1-10). The difference between the values obtained inthe pre- and postoperative periods was, in average, 13.4 (1-20)points. The statistical analysis of the mean variation betweenthe pre- and post-treatment scores showed an improvement inquality of life of patients after surgery (p < 0.05). The aspiratewas sent for histological identification and confirmed thepresence of sweat glands. Conclusions: We concluded vacuumcurettage improves quality of life in patients with axillaryhyperhidrosis and can be the first surgical treatment option.
Natural history of a nasolabial hemangioma
Ronaldo Golcman,Benjamin Golcman,Murilo Francisco Pires Fraga
Einstein (S?o Paulo) , 2006,
Abstract: Hemangiomas of infancy are unique, benign tumors of endothelialcells characterized by an initial phase of rapid proliferation, followedby slow involution, often leading to complete regression. The aimof this case report is to present the natural evolution of a nasolabialhemangioma based on the progression of the disease, since birthuntil adult life. Many therapeutic options are available. Theappropriate moment to proceed should be identified by thephysician taking into account the natural course of the disease.

A postura do professor e as grandes quest?es humanas nas práticas educacionais
Fraga, Valderez F.;
Cadernos EBAPE.BR , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1679-39512007000500007
Abstract: teacher's posture is a challenge no matter where or when. inherent issues become sharp in developing countries, where contrasts go from urban to rural areas and from poverty to technologically advanced societies asking for human understanding and update knowledge simultaneously. experiences described in two continuing education classes, as a means of implementing teachers' posture, discuss dispositions of student-teachers to face big human questions as democracy, without relegating any specific content. this study main objective is to alert educators about the significance of dealing with both, posture and knowledge. several teaching resources and approaches and also concurrent qualitative research methods were intentionally chosen to reach teaching objectives and to obtain better research results respectively. results emerge in motivated student-teachers' pre-occupations to assume a democratic and dialogical posture in concrete, toward socio-educational inclusion. conclusions point out class singular manifestations suggesting future research and also toward some inter-complementary positions and common perceptions of both as well.

Ocnos , 2005,

Surgical Science (SS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ss.2014.56045
Abstract:

Objectives: To evaluate the results obtained with the technique of distal spermatic vessel ligation in children with upper or intra-abdominal undescended testis. Methods: Analysis of cryptorchid patients treated with Koff-Sethi technique for orquiopexy. Patient series: 15 children with uni- or bilateral cryptorchidism. Postoperative gonad viability was evaluated on the basis of clinical data, physical examination and testicular scintigraphy. Results: Mean age was 5.4 years. Cryptorchidism was unilateral in 10/15 (67%) patients and bilateral in 5/15 (33%). The total number of testicles operated was 25. Of these, 19/25 (76%) required ligation of the spermatic vessels performed according to the Koff-Sethi technique. Eighteen (98%) gonads remained well positioned in the scrotum and one remained in a high position. Late evaluation revealed that 14/19 (74%) testicles had normal consistency and volume upon palpation and 3/19 (16%) were atrophic. Two patients did not return for late reevaluation. Scintigraphy demonstrated good testicular perfusion in 14/17 (82%) gonads evaluated. The patient with bilateral ligation of the spermatic vessels had good perfusion in both gonads. Conclusions: Distal spermatic vessel ligation (Koff-Sethi technique) is safe and useful for the treatment of high cryptorchid testicles.

Abstract: this article presents the evaluation of the notifications of adverse events related to medicinal plants and their derivatives (herbal medicines). such evaluations were voluntarily run by the brazilian pharmacovigilance system, coordinated by the brazilian health surveillance agency (anvisa), from january 1999 to march 2009. pharmacovigilance involves the detection of adverse reactions that occur during or after the use of drugs, drug interactions, problems of quality, improper use and inefficacy. there is scarce scientific confirmation about efficacy and safety of herbal medicines, so the notification of adverse events provides of information, and promotes rational use.
