Political participation of immigrants through new urban policies in Brussels : constraints and small opportunities Participation politique des immigrés à travers les nouvelles politiques urbaines à Bruxelles : contraintes et manque d’opportunités
Muriel Sacco
Belgeo : Revue Belge de Géographie , 2012,
Abstract: The political participation of immigrants is an important gauge of their integration into the receiving society more generally, as well as an indicator of the degree of openness of political elites towards ethnic minorities. With the restructuring of State intervention and the diffusion of civic culture, the role that immigrant associations play in shaping urban social policies has become another important form of political participation. As the Belgian city with the highest percentage of migrants and naturalized foreigners and benchmarked as multicultural by the regional government, Brussels presents a test case. Since the beginning of the nineties, new public policies including participative tools have been introduced in Brussels. However, immigrant associations are not adequately involved in these processes. Why is such little space given to migrant associations in the participative procedures of these new urban policies? The neo-institutionalist perspective will be helpful in identifying the major factors that explain the relatively low participation of immigrant associations.
Fibonacci Harmonics: A New Mathematical Model of Synchronicity  [PDF]
Robert G. Sacco
Applied Mathematics (AM) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/am.2018.96048
Abstract:
This article aims to provide a brief overview of the relevance of new findings about the Fibonacci Life Chart Method (FLCM) for understanding synchronicity. The FLCM is reviewed first, including an exposition of the golden section model, and elaboration of a new harmonic model. The two models are then compared to illuminate several strengths and weaknesses in connection with the following four major criteria regarding synchronicity: explanatory adequacy; predictability of future synchronicities; simplicity of the model; and generalizability to other branches of knowledge. The review indicates that both models appear capable of simulating nonlinear and fractal dynamics. Hybrid approaches that combine both models are feasible and necessary for projects that aim to experimentally address synchronicity.
Characterization of the Geographical and Varietal Origin of Wheat and Bread by Means of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (IRMS) Methods and Chemometrics: A Review  [PDF]

Agricultural Sciences (AS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/as.2015.61010
Abstract: In recent years, food authentication, in terms of geographical and varietal/animal origins, is considered of primary importance at all levels of the production process. Therefore, it is clear that there is an economic basis to develop analytical methods able to certify the declared origin of food products, in order to protect consumers and honest producers from fraud and unfair competition, respectively; consequently, during recent years, several food authentication techniques have been proposed. This review attempted to present in a critical way the contribution of High Resolution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (HR-NMR) and Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (IRMS) techniques in the assessment of quality and authenticity, mainly in terms of characterization of geographical and varietal origin, of wheat and wheat products, focusing on the most important studies to this direction.

Abstract: ate on entecavir in the management of severe forms of Hepatitis B Review (1909) Total Article Views Authors: Sacco R Published Date May 2012 Volume 2012:4 Pages 39 - 47 DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.2147/HMER.S16136 Received: 25 November 2011 Accepted: 11 March 2012 Published: 15 May 2012 Rodolfo Sacco Department of Gastroenterology, Pisa University Hospital, Pisa, Italy Abstract: Despite the effective management of most cases of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, there is still much room for improvement in the treatment of more severe cases of hepatitis B, such as those occurring in patients with decompensated cirrhosis, in transplanted subjects, and in patients with exacerbations of HBV infection. Among the treatments currently approved for the therapy of hepatitis B, entecavir determines a rapid suppression of viral load. This drug is also associated with a high genetic barrier and an overall favorable safety profile. This review provides an overview of recent evidence related to the use of entecavir in the management of the most severe forms of hepatitis B. The results obtained for this drug in real-life clinical practice are also reviewed.

The Circumplex Structure of Depersonalization/Derealization
Robert Sacco
International Journal of Psychological Studies , 2010, DOI: 10.5539/ijps.v2n2p26
Abstract: This paper presents a literature review to determine whether precipitating causes of depersonalization (DP) and derealization (DR) correspond to the circumplex model of emotion defined by the dimensions of valence and arousal. DP/DR precipitators are reviewed and classified in relation to the four quadrants of the circumplex model of emotion. The findings indicate that the valence and arousal dimensions were significant predictors of emotions expressed in DP/DR precipitators. Implications are discussed with respect to the multidimensional nature of DP/DR, clarifying normal and abnormal DP/DR, and identifying needed areas of research.

The micro-identities of Region Jesuiti Guarani Missions through interpretation of cultural landscapes: a dialectic with the reflections of Guy Di Méo Abstract: The Historic Region of Jesuit Guarani Missions has a diverse heritage. Currently these cultural assets are being planned by best international and national bodies. However, one notices the lack of studies to analyze the construction of the missionary identity and its relations with the transformations of space. The article focused on analyzing missionary identity construction from the interpretation of regional landscapes, to reflect on the creation of social spaces. There fore, it was used as a theoretical framework to the reflections of the French philosopher Guy Di Meo. The study stands out for proposing the discussion of a unified vision for the identity not missions, because the research can identify various socio-spatial identitie sin the region. It should be noted that the thoughts of Guy Di Meo contributed to the integration of concepts between, identity, heritage, social spaces, landscapes, and tourism. What proposes an innovative vision for the Cultural Geography of the Missions. DOI: 10.7154/RDG.2012.0024.0008
Changes in Excitability of the Motor Cortex Associated with Internal Model Formation during Intrinsic Visuomotor Learning in the Upper Arm  [PDF]
Timothy Hunter, Paul Sacco, Duncan L. Turner
Journal of Behavioral and Brain Science (JBBS) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/jbbs.2011.13019
Abstract: Previous studies have shown that the primary motor cortex (M1) may drive part of the feed forward control of well learnt simple movements by specifying patterns of muscle activation. This study explored the role of the M1 in the feed forward control of newly formed movement patterns after motor adaptation. Ten healthy right-handed subjects performed planar, centre-out arm reaching movement trials with a robotic manipulandum in three phases: a null force field (baseline), a velocity-dependent force field (adaptation; 25 Nsm-1) and again in a null force field (deadaptation). Reaching error and voluntary EMG were recorded from the biceps and triceps before, during and after motor adaptation. We also explored the effects of motor adaptation on evoked responses to single and paired pulse Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation from the same muscles at different delays after a visual go command, but before the onset of voluntary muscle activity. After the force field was removed, subjects produced reaching overshoot characteristic of adaptive internal model formation. Following motor adaptation, there was a significant increase in corticospinal excitability, reduction in short interval intracortical inhibition and increase in short interval intracortical facilitation that was associated with a sustained increase in voluntary muscle activity in the biceps. The adaptation-driven increase in reaching overshoot coupled with the increase in voluntary activity, corticospinal and intracortical excitability in the biceps suggests that the M1 may specify some of the feed forward components of newly learnt internal models through the control of specific muscles.
DINAMISMO ILEGAL Y DESAFíO OFICIAL: EL CONTRABANDO EN TUMACO Y EL PACíFICO SUR EN LAS DéCADAS DE 1860 Y 1870
Laurent,Muriel;
Historia Crítica , 2009,
Abstract: this article discusses the problems of contraband in tumaco and the surrounding region in the 1860s and 1870s, at the beginning of the export bonanza through this port. using contraband as way to identify merchants, commercial routes, and imported products, it is possible to analyze the commercial dynamic of tumaco before the port had acquired its later importance in the national economy. we suggest that tumaco already experienced a particular dynamism based on illicit trade that was crucial for the region even though it threatened state authority and its finances.
