Novel Planar Electromagnetic Sensors: Modeling and Performance Evaluation

Abstract: High performance planar electromagnetic sensors, their modeling and a fewapplications have been reported in this paper. The researches employing planar typeelectromagnetic sensors have started quite a few years back with the initial emphasis on theinspection of defects on printed circuit board. The use of the planar type sensing system hasbeen extended for the evaluation of near-surface material properties such as conductivity,permittivity, permeability etc and can also be used for the inspection of defects in the nearsurfaceof materials. Recently the sensor has been used for the inspection of quality ofsaxophone reeds and dairy products. The electromagnetic responses of planar interdigitalsensors with pork meats have been investigated.

Abstract: We limit ourselves basically to the SU(2) flavor sector of the CKM matrix, as probed in processes like nuclear $\beta$-decay, normal and radiative muon capture and neutrino reactions. Current interests in this primarily stem from our aspirations to interpret the weak form factors of the nucleon in the framework of QCD. Given a standard set of known form factors, we can look also in these processes for possible physics signals beyond the standard model.

Abstract: The relation between money and price has unique relevance in price stability. Rational expectations theorists hold that both anticipated and unanticipated money supply affect price level. This paper addresses this issue and enquires if anticipated and unanticipated money supplies have any role in the variations in whole sale and consumer prices (WPI & CPI) in India over the period 1992:Q1 to 2010:Q3. It is found that both anticipated and unanticipated money supply shocks cause rise in WPI and CPI inflation and justifying the rational expectations proposition. Price level, therefore, can be stabilized through appropriate monetary management.

Abstract: We argue that the available experimental data is not compatible with models of sonoluminescence which invoke dynamical properties of the interface without regard to the compositional properties of the trapped gas inside the bubble.
Extraction of Electrostrong Parameters of $N^{*}(1520)$ from Eta Photoproduction

Abstract: Recently obtained polarized target and photon asymmetry data in eta photoproduction are shown to be very powerful, in conjunction with the differential cross-section data, in yielding model-insensitive constraints on the electrostrong parameters for the excitation and decay of the $N^{*}(1520)$ resonance. The extracted ratio of its electromagnetic helicity amplitudes, $A_{3/2}/A_{1/2}$, provides a critical test for the QCD-inspired hadron models.
A Precise Determination of the Pion-Nuclear Coupling Parameter from Weak Processes in ^3He

Abstract: We utilize precise weak interaction experiments on atomic muon capture and beta decay in the A = 3 nuclei, and take into account the effects of nuclear "anomalous thresholds" to extract the pseudoscalar pi-^3He-^3H coupling parameter, G^{eff}(m_\pi^2) = 45.8+- 2.4. This is an order of magnitude improvement in precision over that from the use of pion-nuclear scattering data and dispersion relations.

Abstract: Relationships between mass intervals for free hadrons and in nuclei are studied in two theoretical approaches inspired by QCD: naive quark model and skyrmion model, taking one example each from mesons and baryons, that of pi-rho splitting in mesons, and nucleon-Delta splitting in baryons. Possible deconfinement effects in nuclei are examined.
Optical nonlinearity due to intersubband transitions in semiconductor quantum wells

Abstract: We have calculated the contribution of intersubband transitions to the third order optical nonlinear susceptibility, $\chi^{(3)}(\omega,\omega,\omega)$ for nonresonant as well as resonant third harmonic generation and $\chi^{(3)}(\omega,-\omega,\omega)$ for nonlinear refraction and absorption. As examples, we consider InAs/AlSb and GaAs/GaAlAs quantum wells. The effects of finite barrier height, energy band nonparabolicity, and high carrier concentrations are included. It is shown that quantum confinement, rather than the band nonparabolicity, is responsible for high values of nonresonant $\chi^{(3)}_{zzzz}$. Very high values of $\chi^{(3)}_{zzzz}$ are obtained for third harmonic generation and two photon absorption for incident wavelength near 10.6 $\mu$m. Intensity dependence of refractive index and of absorption co-efficient is also discussed for intensity well above the saturation intensity. Effective medium theory is used to incorporate the collective effects.
