Abstract: A simple way to prepare α- and β-CoMoO4 nanorods is reported in this paper. CoMoO4xH2O nanorod precursors were obtained using the microwave-assisted hydrothermal (MAH) method. By annealing the as-prepared CoMoO44xH2O precursor at 600℃ for 10 min in a domestic microwave oven, α- and β-CoMoO4 nanorods were prepared. These powders were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Fourier transform Raman microscopy and ultraviolet visible absorption spectroscopy (UV-vis spectra) as well as photoluminescence (PL) measurements. Based on the results, these materials revealed nanorod morphology. PL spectra obtained at room temperature for α- and β-CoMoO4 particles exhibited maximum components around the blue light emission. The results show that the domestic microwave oven has been successfully employed to obtain α- and β-CoMoO4 nanoparticles.

Phebo, Luciana;Moura, Anna Tereza M. S. de;
Jornal de Pediatria , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0021-75572005000700009
Abstract: objectives: to present the main aspects of an approach to urban violence among children and adolescents and to point out the social and educational role of pediatricians. sources of data: a literature review based on medline, lilacs and scielo was carried out for the years 1993 to 2005, using the following keywords: urban violence, children and adolescents. in addition to the review, policies and institutional reports on violence were also analyzed. summary of the findings: the causal relationship of violence is presented in a range of different ways, from personal points of view to broader structural aspects. the literature suggests that urban violence results from varied actions, and also from specific risk behaviors. it is a worrying and complex phenomenon that results in high levels of morbidity and mortality, affecting children and adolescents. special attention was given to homicide and to the psychological results of violent acts. firearms are the most lethal instruments among adolescents and young males when compared to all other causes of death. conclusions: urban violence is one of the main social problems in brazil. violence prevention requires intersectoral and multiprofessional actions with the participation of the government and of the organized civil society. children, and above all adolescents, are the groups that are most widely exposed to the consequences of urban violence. pediatricians can have an important role in the process of prevention, diagnosis and treatment. through their wide-ranging abilities, pediatricians are well-positioned to help victims and their families to establish a healthy and dynamic relationship with their environment and with themselves.

Polímeros , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-14282009000300012
Abstract: molar mass is an essential property for the characterization of asphaltenes and one of the main input parameters in the models for the prediction of the precipitation. in the literature molar masses between 1,000 and 10,000 g.mol-1 for the asphaltenes are quoted, depending on the technique, petroleum origin, solvent nature and temperature. in this work the numerical average molar mass for two asphaltenes in toluene, the c7i (insoluble in heptane) and the c5i (insoluble in pentane), was determined by vapor pressure osmometry. the experimental data were evaluated taking into account effects of asphaltenes aggregation in solution and its larger dispersion at low concentrations. mathematical fittings were also made to comply with the curve bias for infinite dilutions, which was aimed at finding more accurate values for the molar mass. the results found were compared with the conventional methods applied to the analysis of the vapor pressure osmometry and varied from 3,200 to 5,200 g.mol-1 for the c5i asphaltenes and from 4,100 to 5,400 g.mol-1 for c7i.

Abstract: Oil palm seeds respond well to protocols of dormancy break, however, the seeds of interspecific hybrid (HIE) (caiaué × oil palm) have lower germination rates. The mechanical depulping can affect the potential of germination of seeds, therefore the objective of this study was to evaluate the mechanical depulping on the seed germination, vigor and viability of embryos HIE BRS Manicoré. A randomized block design with five treatments, based on the depulping time and on the percentage of mesocarp on the seed with four replications was used. The percentage of seed germination, the germination speed index (GSI), the percentage of fungi and abnormal seeds and vigor and viability of embryos were evaluated. There was no statistical difference (p < 0.05) between treatments for all variables. The average of germination at 35 days was 45.34% and embryos showed high to medium vigor by the tetrazolium test. The mechanical depulping do not affect the seed germination, nor the viability and vigor of embryos HIE BRS Manicoré. It is recommended that the fruits of HIE BRS Manicoré remain in depulper machine for 40 minutes to completely remove the mesocarp residue.

Abstract: glycerol, a by-product from biodiesel production can react with di-carboxylic organic acids, resulting in polyesters, and can be used in the composition of urea/formaldehyde or phenol/formaldehyde resins to improve the qualities of adhesion and moisture resistance of them. in this work, six kinds of resins derived from glycerol, named as gaa (glycerol/adipic acid), gaau (glycerol/adipic acid/urea), gaf (glycerol/phtalic acid), gu (glycerol/urea), guf (glycerol/urea/formaldehyde) and gf (glycerol/formaldehyde), were synthesized. the resins derived from carboxylic acids had better thermal stability (up to 350 oc) than those derived from formaldehyde (up to 200 oc). the average molecular weights of the resins were determined by matrix assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (maldi-tof ms) and gel-permeation chromatography (gpc), and are in the range of 1800-2800 da, being oligomers, and the polydispersity indexes are in the range of 1.3 to 1.8. the 1h and 13c nuclear magnetic resonance (nmr) techniques were used to identify the structure of the resins.

Journal of Probability and Statistics , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/451076
Abstract: We consider a transfer function model with time-varying coefficients. We propose an estimation procedure, based on the least squares method and wavelet expansions of the time-varying coefficients. We discuss some statistical properties of the estimators and assess the validity of the methodology through a simulation study. We also present an application of the proposed procedure to a real pair of series.
