Sistemas & Gest?o , 2008,
Abstract: This work presents an analysis of the freight distribution in the sugar cane supply system in a mill made by computational simulation. The mill supply system is compound basically by the cut, loading and transportation operations (known as CLT). The costs of these operations represent 27% on an average of the direct costs of the production per hectare. Only transportation represents, approximately 55% of the CLT total costs per hectare. In Campos dos Goytacazes, north of Rio de Janeiro state, the sugar cane activity is traditional and of great value, demanding continuous improvement of these operations. The aim of this work was to develop a simulation model to evaluate the relation of the CLT freight cost with the distance of the sugar cane supplier to the mill. Simulations of various ypothetical sceneries built to allow connecting the various suppliers concerning the paid freight were done. Results were validated with data from literature and with information furnish by local mills, allowing, and this way, to determine the impact of the freight over the direct operations costs of the CLT.

Sistemas & Gest?o , 2009,

Abstract: the authors present in this paper three types of data on mental disorders: prevalence rates in representative samples, prevalence rates (primary data) in a family study and the indicators of diagnostics' proportion among the patients admitted to brazilian psychiatric hospitals. concerning to one survey carried out over representative samples, the overall prevalence rate was 20%, of which, 3.0%, 14.6%, 0. 7%, 1.1%, and 0.5% were due respectively to alcoholism, neurosis, psychosis, mental deficiency, and organic brain syndrome. the sex distribution has shown an overt but expected excess of alcoholism among the males, and neurosis among the females. in one study related to the original family (parents and siblings) of 150 heavy drug abusers, the overall prevalence rate of mental disorders among 796 relatives of these 150 drug users was 23.2%, of which, 8.4%, 5.3%, 3.1%, 4.0%, 0.8%, 0.9%, and 0.8% were respectively due to alcohol related problems, drug addiction, psychosis, neurosis, epilepsy, antisocial personality and other diagnosis. the alcohol related problems were by far the most frequent among the fathers, drug addiction among the siblings, and neurosis among the mothers of those 150 index-patients. the characteristics of brazil's psychiatric facilities are partially viewed by means of first admittion's indicator, at psychiatric wards. the proportion through the diagnosis is provided in a time-distribution table from 1940 to 1977. such data shows that the first admittion rate has increased in the last four decades; the most frequent diagnosis have been schizophrenia, alcoholism and drug addiction. however, between the diagnostic profile of public hospitals and that of private ones, there is an outstanding difference. the former with an increased amount of serious disorders, while the latter shows a great number of lighters ones. such findings are discussed with an aim of helping mental health planning.

Morgado, Fabiane Frota da Rocha;Ferreira, Maria Elisa Caputo;
Revista Brasileira de Educa??o Especial , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-65382010000100005
Abstract: the aim of the study was to conduct an exploratory analysis of the two dimensional and three dimensional silhouette scales (2ss and 3ss) so as to determine which one is most suitable and meaningful for persons that are congenitally blind. this is a qualitative and exploratory study. the sample was composed of 20 adult congenitally blind subjects. ten men and 10 women aged between 21 and 50 years of age from the benjamin constant institute, in rio de janeiro and from the association for the blind of juiz de fora, mg, were interviewed. the tools for the collection of data were: 2ss, 3ss and semi-structured interview guideline. the strategy adopted for data construction was the content analysis of bardin. three large categories were formed: 1) main information pathways about the body, subdivided into: touch; information about weight and height; information about the people they live with; cultural information; clothes size, and physical activity as a reference. 2) two dimensional silhouette scale, subdivided into: non recognition of the 2ss; difficulties; functions. 3) three dimensional silhouette scale: subdivided into: recognition of the scale; relationship with oneself or with others, ease and preferences of the 3ss. it was found that 90% of the participants did not recognize the 2ss while all of the participants recognized the 3ss. the 3ss is the more adequate and meaningful scale for the congenitally blind. further studies aiming to assess the psychometric qualities of the 3ss are needed.
Angled telescopic surgery, an approach for laryngeal diagnosis and surgery without suspension
Morgado, Plínio Ferreira;Abrah?o, Márcio;
Sao Paulo Medical Journal , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-31801999000500008
Abstract: context: many methods have been used successfully for the diagnosis and treatment of laryngeal diseases. microscopic and, recently, telescopic surgery represent the state of the art in endoscopic laryngeal surgery but drawbacks are possible during their application. to keep the suspension apparatus adequately positioned, excessive force is sometimes placed on the upper teeth and tongue with the laryngoscope tube causing damage. complications in relation to the pharynx, larynx and cardiovascular system have also been reported. objective: in order to reduce complications resulting from the manipulation or stimulation of the upper aerodigestive tract and from torque forces on the upper teeth. we present a method of larynx surgery in which laryngeal suspension is not required. design: technical report. techniques: we have devised a fiber-optic telescope with its 40mm distal portion deviated 60 degrees from the direction of the proximal portion. this angle was taken by measuring patients immediately before standard microlaryngeal surgery was performed. the surgical instruments have the same angle as the telescope, in order to work on the larynx. this technique provides an image that is not limited by the distal aperture of the laryngoscope and has an advantage in that magnification and illumination may be provided by changing the distance of the lesion from the tip of the instrument. we have operated on four patients with laryngeal diseases and have had no complications as a result of this approach. we feel that this technique gives us the freedom to view the lesions better and helps to minimize the drawbacks caused by laryngeal suspension.
