Asesorar es acompa ar
Montse Ventura
PROFESORADO , 2008,

Abstract: By using two structurally and functionally different model enzymes and two fluorescent proteins we show that physiological aggregation in bacteria might only result in a moderate loss of biological activity and that inclusion bodies can be used in reaction mixtures for efficient catalysis. This observation offers promising possibilities for the exploration of inclusion bodies as catalysts for industrial purposes, without any previous protein-refolding step.Protein misfolding is a common event during bacterial over-expression of recombinant genes [1]. The aggregation of insoluble polypeptide chains as inclusion bodies has seriously restricted the spectrum of proteins marketed by the biotechnology industry. Being widespreadly believed that inclusion body proteins are biologically inactive and therefore useless in bioprocesses, many aggregation-prone products have been disregarded for commercialisation. Protein solubility can be tailored by either process [2] or protein [3] engineering, although most efforts have been addressed to minimize inclusion body formation by co-production of folding modulators [4], or to refold purified inclusion body proteins by chemical denaturation followed by refolding procedures [5]. Both strategies need to be adapted to particular protein species and they render largely variable results regarding the final soluble protein yield.Interestingly, independent reports have noted enzymatic activity associated to inclusion bodies formed by recombinant enzymes [6-8], but the extent of these side-observations has been never quantified and its biological and biotechnological relevance remained unexplored. In this work, we have quantitatively explored the biological activity of inclusion body recombinant proteins and their potential use for bioprocesses in the aggregated form.To determine the occurrence of active protein in inclusion bodies we analysed those formed upon overproduction of the wild-type human dihydrofolate reductase (hDHFR) and an engi
Under the Flag of Blue and White: Mary as an A-NationalSymbol in the Greek-Orthodox Community in Israel  [PDF]
Jonathan Ventura
Sociology Mind (SM) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/sm.2011.14029
Abstract: Marian devotion and rituals have been the apex of Christian believers’ journey for centuries. In spite of its importance in many disciplines, Marian devotion and rituals in Israel have been neglected. In this article I will outline several social and religious aspects of Marian devotion in the Greek-Orthodox community in Israel. Using several case-studies of Marian devotion around the world I will address the question is Mary a national symbol in Israel? Since one of the most important Marian devotion sites is located in Israel and centered in Mary’s place of ascension in Gethsemane, addressing this site directly is crucial. I will express a new concept more fitting to the Israeli case—Mary as an a-national symbol. This research is based upon a combination of two main methodologies: participant observations and in-depth interviews with believers (local Greek and Palestinian residents as well as pilgrims) and clergymen. The research focuses on a procession taking place in the Old City of Jerusalem in the end of August, celebrating Mary’s legacy and resurrection.
Translation and Reliability of the Preliminary Spanish Version of the Sport Imagery Questionnaire  [PDF]
Montse C. Ruiz, Anthony P. Watt
Advances in Physical Education (APE) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ape.2012.22013
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability of the preliminary Spanish version of the Sport Imagery Questionnaire (SIQ). The SIQ was developed to examine five cognitive and motivational functions of imagery use. Participants were 81 athletes competing in soccer (n = 43) and roller skating (n = 38), ranging in age from 14 to 29 years (M = 18.10, SD = 3.16). Reliability was evaluated through internal consistency analyses of the scale. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were high indicating that the scale is a reliable instrument for the measurement of imagery use in Spanish athletes. Further psychometric research should now examine factor structure and imagery use across competitive level and type of sport in a larger sample of Spanish athletes.
Solsona,Montse; Viciana,Francisco;
Gaceta Sanitaria , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0213-91112004000700004
Abstract: this article describes the main features of the dynamics of demographic change in the population of spain during the twentieth century, emphasizing the most recent developments: population ageing, the establishment of a very low fertility regime and the increasing importance of foreign immigration as well as the impact which all these have on the composition of households. those aspects most directly related to the provision of health and social services is discussed, such as the impact of increased life expectancy on the incidence of illness and handicap in the population, the role of foreign immigration in providing personal services within the family and the health implications of the new model of delayed fertility. finally, the health implications of population projections for the next 50 years are discussed.
Re-writing and its pedagogical value: A case study
Montse Irun Chavarria
Sintagma : Revista de Lingüística , 2004,
Abstract: The research presented in this paper was designed to investigate the fact that, considering the large amount of time and energy teachers devote to the correction of compositions and written work, the effect of this effort on other student learning activities appears to be minimal. The results of this study seem to suggest that correction of this type does not facilitate language learning. The way in which this feedback activity is presented to the students and the status given to it within an approach to the process of writing are key aspects to making corrections helpful in the acquisition of writing skills.
Solsona i Pairó, Montse
Estudios Geográficos , 2009,
Abstract: In this article some outcomes of a qualitative study on the familiar trajectories that follow men and women who have experienced a break-up of union in which there were children are discussed. The design of the qualitative methodology is first presented before showing some results of the fieldwork done in metropolitan areas of Spain where the divorce has a greater intensity. The narrations of our biographers allow us to discuss the meaning of the family and the affective ties in the so-called liquid modern society and to review three basic concepts of the demographic analysis of the biographies of union ruptures: family, timing of the events and the determinant factors.
