Evaluation of Effect of Peppermint as a New Preventive Method for Milk Fever and Subclinical Hypocalcaemia in Transition Holstein Cows

Abstract: Milk fever and subclinical hypocalcaemia are the most important macromineral disorders that affect transition dairy cows. Feeding peppermint to dairy cattle due to physiological or pharmacological functions may effect rumen fermentation and digestibility. Thus, in the present study, peppermint was tested for its effects upon serum calcium and urine pH levels in transition Holstein cows. Twenty dairy cattle (the last 3 weeks prepartum) were divided into 2 groups. Group 1 (control) treated with no peppermint and group 2 (treatment) treated with peppermint. To determine serum calcium and urine pH levels, blood and urine were taken in start of experiment, after 15 days adaptation period with the peppermint being mixed with concentrate and 12 h after calving in second milking. Serum calcium and urine pH levels between control group and treatment group were not significantly different (p>0.05) in start of experiment, but their levels after 15 days adaptation period and 12 h after calving were significant (p<0.05). In treatment group serum calcium and urine pH difference between before treatment and after treatment in three different times were different significantly (p<0.05). According to these results, it can be concluded that peppermint has a great potential as a new preventive method for milk fever and subclinical hypocalcaemia by inducing mild metabolic acidosis or any unknown mechanism.

Abstract:

We consider n observations from the GARCH-type model: Z = UY, where U and Y are independent random variables. We aim to estimate density function Y where Y have a weighted distribution. We determine a sharp upper bound of the associated mean integrated square error. We also make use of the measure of expected true evidence, so as to determine when model leads to a crisis and causes data to be lost.

Abstract: In this paper, the laminar heat transfer of natural convection on vertical surfaces is investigated. Most of the studies on natural convection have been considered constantly whereas velocity and temperature domain, do not change with time, transient one are used a lot. Governing equations are solved using a finite volume approach. The convective terms are discretized using the power-law scheme, whereas for diffusive terms the central difference is employed. Coupling between the velocity and pressure is made with SIMPLE algorithm. The resultant system of discretized linear algebraic equations is solved with an alternating direction implicit scheme. Then a configuration of rectangular fins is put in different ways on the surface and heat transfer of natural convection on these surfaces without sliding is studied and finally optimization is investigated.

Abstract: In this paper, a new method for making v/uv decision is developed which uses a multi-feature v/uv classification algorithm based on the analysis of cepstral peak, zero crossing rate, and autocorrelation function (ACF) peak of short-time segments of the speech signal by using some clustering methods. This v/uv classifier achieved excellent results for identification of voiced and unvoiced segments of speech.

Abstract: Ofloxacin is an antibiotic with a wide range of activity against bacterial infections, but due to the high potential for toxicity when exposed to light, resolving this problem and further stabilizing the drug are among the posed challenges. Inclusion complex formation between α-cyclodextrin (α-CD), ofloxacin (OFL) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) was prepared via two methods to produce nanocontainers with desirable stability. The effect of PEG as compatible solubilizing agent and mixing condition (in ultrasonic bath) were investigated in formation of an inclusion complex between α-CD/OFL. Obtained complexes were examined by FTIR, H-NMR, SEM, EDX and UV which indicated the formation of an inclusion complex between α-CD/OFL, in turn, is a mixture of the cage and channel structures. Differences between 1H-NMR, FTIR and XRD spectra of OFL, CDs and inclusion complex indicated the formation of α-CD/OFL and supramolecular containers in solid phase. These inclusion complexes loaded in PVA-based nanofibers for smart nanofibers with controlled release manner and higher stability of OFL. Obtained nanofiber showed that nanofibers containing CDs/OFL under sonic energy containing higher degree of OFL.

Abstract: Decision-making problems in the area of financial status evaluation have been considered very important. Making incorrect decisions in firms is very likely to cause financial crises and distress. Predicting going concern of factories and manufacturing companies is the desire of managers, investors, auditors, financial analysts, governmental officials, employees. This research introduces a new approach for modeling of company’s behavior based on Fuzzy Clustering Means (FCM). Fuzzy clustering is one of well-known unsupervised clustering techniques, which allows one piece of data belongs to two or more clusters. The data used in this research was obtained from Iran Stock Market and Accounting Research Database. According to the data between 2000 and 2009, 70 pairs of companies listed in Tehran Stock Exchange are selected as initial data set. Our experimental results showed that FCM approach obtains good prediction accuracy in developing a financial distress prediction model. Also, in effective features determination test the results show that features based on cash flows play more important role in clustering two classes.

Abstract: Thin bonded films have many applications (i.e. in information storage and processing systems, and etc.). In many cases, thin bonded films are in a state of residual tension, which can lead to film cracking and crack extension in one layer often accompanies failure in whole systems. In this paper, we analyze a channel crack advanced throughout thickness of an elastic thin film bonded to a dissimilar semi-infinite substrate material via finite element method (FEM). In order to simplify modeling, the problem is idealized as plane strain and a two-dimensional model of a film bonded to an elastic substrate is proposed for simulating channel crack in thin elastic film. Film is modeled by common 4-node and substrate by infinite 4-node meshes. The stress intensity factor (SIF) for cracked thin film has been obtained as a function of elastic mismatch between the substrate and the film. The results indicate that in elastic mismatch state, SIF is more than match state. On the other hand, mismatch state is more sensitive to crack than match state. And SIF has also increased by increasing Young’s modulus and Poisson ratio of film.
