Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma of the Tongue Presenting as an Ulcerative Lesion

Abstract: Malignant lymphoma may occur in the oral cavity and oropharynx, but is most commonly located in Waldeyer's ring, particularly in the palatine and lingual tonsil. The occurrence of malignant lymphoma in the tongue is very rare. Clinical features are nonspecific ulcerative lesions that do not heal. In the literature, the majority of casesare non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, diffuse large B cell type; however T-cell phenotype also may occur. We describe a 60-year-old man who presented with an ulcerative mass in the left lateral aspect of his tongue, unresponsive to medical therapy. After tissue biopsy, histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses confirmed a diagnosis of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, diffuse large B cell type.
Synovial Sarcoma of the Palatine Tonsil:Report of Two Cases and Review of theLiterature

Abstract: Here, we describe young men with synovial sarcoma in the palatine tonsil, who presented with a 3-4 month history of progressive sore throat, tonsillar ulcerativemass and bleeding. Clinical and radiological examinations revealed that the tumors arose from the palatine tonsil and extended to the parapharyngeal space. Both tumors were too advanced to remove completely; therefore, they underwent surgical debulking during tonsillectomy and partial pharyngectomy. Histopathological and immunohistochem-ical studies confirmed the diagnosis of synovial sarcoma of the palatine tonsil. Despite postoperative radiotherapy and systemic chemotherapy, they relapsed 18 and 22 months later. The first patient died from unresectable local recurrent disease three years after primary diagnosis, and the second patient is alive after 36 months, but suffers from unresectable locoregional recurrent disease and is receiving palliative chemotherapy and supportive care.
Loneliness and internet addiction in students of Hamadan University of medical sciences

Abstract: Introduction: This study intends to determine the relationship between loneliness and internet addiction in students of Hamadan University of medical sciences in 2013.Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive-analytic study, students of Hamadan University of medical sciences were research population that sample involved 130 people which have been selected through random sampling. To gather the data, Loneliness Scale and Internet Addiction Questionnaire was used as well as demographic variables questionnaire. To analyze the data SPSS was used.Results: The findings revealed the characteristics of the research population as follows: high internet addiction and relatively loneliness. Results showed significant relationship between the internet addiction and age, term and level of education, also factors such as marital status, gender and occupation have no significant relation with internet addiction. Analysis indicated there were no statistically significant differences between loneliness and age, term, level of education, marital status, gender and occupation.Discussion: Due to the relatively high rate of Internet addiction in the study population, the findings will be reported to relevant managers and officials, to be considered in planning future.
Allergic Fungal Sinusitis Presenting as a Paranasal Sinus Tumor

Abstract: We present a case of allergic fungal sinusitis (AFB) in a 20-year old man with few months' history of bilateral nasal obstruction and discharge with unilateral proptosis that underwent maxillary antrostomy due to the mass in paranasal sinuses. Histological examination of tissue showed branching fungal hyphae interspersed with allergic mucin without fungal invasion to soft tissue. The patient received local steroid for 4 months and had no problem during follow up. Fungal culture was performed and Bipolaris fungus grew. Although most dematiaceous fungal infections occur in immunocompetent patients, the incorrect diagnosis and insufficient treatment may be life threatening.
Vocal Cord Actinomycosis: A Case Report

Abstract: Introduction: Actinomycosis is a systemic chronic bacterial infection caused by Actinomyces Israelii, an anaerobic organism normally resident in the human mouth. However, the actinomycosis of the larynx is very rare, and only about 15 cases have been reported in the literature so far. Most of the cases reported occurred in patients who had previously undergone radiotherapy for laryngeal cancer. Case Report: Here we report a case of actinomycosis of the larynx in a 14-year-old shepherd boy who was not immunocompromised but had a history of tooth extraction two months prior to admission to the hospital and severe laryngitis one year prior to admission. Conclusion: Laryngeal actinomycosis might be related to poor oral hygiene and mucosal barrier disruption, as well as to being immunocompromised.

Abstract: p53 tumoral suppressor gene harbors a functional polymorphism which codes either arginine (arg) or proline (pro) in the protein p53 of codon 72. such polymorphism has been associated with the development or prognosis of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (hnscc). aim: we assessed codon 72 p53 allelic frequencies and genotypes in hnscc iranian patients. study design: case study. materials and methods: a total of 132 hnscc patients and 123 healthy controls were genotyped. dna source was from mononuclear cells of the peripheral blood. dna amplification was done by means of the allele-specific polymerase chain reaction. results: genotypes and allele distribution were not significantly different between patients and controls. moreover, no statistically significant association was found between the 72 and p53 codon tumor location, gender or age at the time of diagnosis. however, the pro/pro genotype was significantly increase in stage iv patients (30.8%) when compared to stages i-iii of the disease (11.1%) (p=0.03), and a significantly higher percentage of patients with the pro allele had and a risk increase in stage iv disease (or=2.2, 95% ci=1.2-4.2, p=0.01). conclusion: data revealed that the p53 polymorphism do not impact the risk of hnscc in iranians, nonetheless, it can affect tumor progression to a higher tumor stage.
Study on the Effect of Preparation Parameters of K2CO3/Al2O3 Sorbent on CO2 Capture Capacity at Flue Gas Operating Conditions  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper, study on the effect of preparation conditions of K2CO3/Al2O3 sorbent was done. Box-Behnken design was applied to study the influence of four parameters involve initial solution concentration, impregnation time and calcination step temperature and time. A quadratic model was used to correlate the sorbent capture capacity. The model was used to calculate the optimum conditions for preparing sorbent. From the analysis of variance (ANOVA), the most influential factor on each experimental design response was identified. The potassium-based sorbents used in this study were prepared by impregnating K2CO3 on Al2O3 support. The CO2 capture capacity was measured in the presence of H2O in a fixed-bed reactor at CO2 capture temperature of 60°C using breakthrough curves. The optimum sorbent prepared by this method showed CO2 capture capacity of 77.21 mg CO2/g sorbent. It was observed that the experimental values obtained were in good agreement with the values predicted by the model, with relatively small errors between the predicted and the actual values. The results obtained in this study can be used as basic data for study on design and operating condition optimization of CO2 capture process using these sorbents.

Abstract: Gas dispersion properties include bubble size ( ), gas holdup ( ) and bubble surface area flux ( ) and input power ( ) are effective parameters on flotation performance. During the last 10 years, some investigations have been carried out to measure these parameters in mechanical flotation cells. In this research, some models are created to estimate gas dispersion properties and input power by experimental data. Abstract: Streambed-sediment samples were collected in the Karvandar River Basin in the Sistan and Balouchestan province to determine the occurrence and distribution of lead in urban/rural and nonurban/rural areas of the basin. During fall 2012 and fall 2013, streambed sediment was collected at 30 sites, and the samples were analyzed for lead. The ranges in concentrations of lead in streambed sediments at urban/rural sites were orders of magnitude higher than the ranges of concentrations at nonurban/rural sites. Concentrations of lead at sites with different geologic settings were considered to be not statistically significant (t = 0.079, p = 0.93); however, concentrations of lead at these sites can be compared without substantial effects of natural geologic characteristics. Lead in streambed sediment was at concentrations that can adversely affect the aquatic biota in 48 percent of the urban/rural sites in the basin for both particle-size fractions. Lead concentrations in the <43 μm fraction were higher than the total particle-size fraction. Distribution patterns for lead indicate that grossly contamination (>SEL) does not exist throughout the entire drainage basin. A comparison between the sites close to the source and sites downstream indicated that the pattern of increasing concentrations was observed for lead with increasing distance from the source.
Facies Analysis, Depositional Environment of the Lower Permian Deposits of Chili Formation in Kalmard Block, Eastern Central Iran (Darin Section)  [PDF]

Abstract: Early Permian deposits in north of Kalmard region recognize with formal group of Khan; they have various features in the different place. This group includes four different formations from lower to the upper part: Chili, Sartakht and Hermez. These formations consist of carbonate rocks. Chili Formation has 104 m, thickness in Darin section and consists of limestone with intermediates of shale and marland sandstone. Lower boundary of this formation is disconformable with Gachal formation. The upper boundary is separated by unconformity from the upper part Sartakht formation according to the lithological characters and microscopic studies, cause identifications of beach, intertidal, open and semi-restricted lagoon, shoals and bar and open marine sub-environ- ments for the Chili Formation. Vertical changes of microfacies and depth changes curve show much more thickness of shoals and bar microfacies, and little thickness of open and semi-re- stricted lagoon and open marine microfacies. Deposits of Chili Formation in Darin section deposited in the gentle gradient Homoclinal ramp in the south of Paleotethys Ocean. Two depositional sequences have been identified in this formation, based on recognized Fusulinid, show age of Sakmarian, which has adaptation with Lower Absaroka III.
