A Novel Topology of Single-Phase AC-DC Integrated Boost-SEPIC (IBS) Converter Using Common Part Sharing Method (CPSM) for High Step-Up Applications  [PDF]

Abstract: A novel topology of Integrated Boost-SEPIC (IBS) AC-DC converter using common part sharing method (CPSM) has been proposed in this paper. Conventional boost converters with bridge rectifier configuration are inefficient due to limited voltage step-up ratio which may not be applicable for high step-up applications as in the case of micro generators. The proposed IBS topology is based on the common part sharing method capable of operating both for positive and negative half cycle of the input signal. Result and simulation were conducted using PSIM environment. The proposed AC-DC IBS topology eliminates the requirement of bridge rectifier achieving high efficiency (about 99%), improved power factor (0.75, leading) and lower THD (about 38.8%) which is within IEEE standard.

Abstract: A research project was carried out during 2007-08 at the Open University, UK to explore the suitable strategic policy & practices, and partnership possibilities for open, distance and e-learning (ODEL) programme for the postgraduate agricultural education in Bangladesh. The methodology followed was based on the searches on Internet, Journal articles, books, periodicals, brochures, proceedings, reports, attending lectures workshops, seminars, symposia, conferences, contacts, and visits to other Universities/Instition/Organisations for case studies. Under the new millennium context resurgence of global interest in web-based Open, distance and e-learning (ODEL) has been proved to be potentially useful strategy for human development issues, particularly due to the evolution of fast-growing as well as net-working new Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The study reveals that though ODEL has been found widely used in many reputed and world leading universities in UK for higher studies leading to degrees, diploma and certificates on arts, general & environmental sciences as well the commerce subjects, and trainings for professional developments etc. The application ODEL especially in higher agricultural education and training leading to MScs and PhDs is almost scanty except a few cases of Fisheries and Livestock, the two sections of Agriculture in the Universities like the University of Sterling, University of Edinburgh and the University of London (Royal Veterinary College) etc. But in cases of other major areas of Agricultural subjects such as the crop sciences including Agronomy, Soil science, Crop botany, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Genetics & Pl. Breeding, Agric. Extension Education, Agric. Chemistry, Biochemistry, Agro forestry, Biotechnology, Seed Sci. & Techno. Farm Structure, Farm Power & Machinery, Irrigation & Water Management, Food Tech. & Rural Farm Industry, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Finance, Agricultural Statistics, Ag. Cooperation & Ag. Marketing, Rural Development etc. the application of ODEL has not yet been found employed in anywhere except, a few recent endeavours under a limited scope in the Asian countries like India (IGNOU). ODEL extends the learning and self-development opportunities to those beyond the access to the conventional system due to professional, familial, economic, geographical etc. restrictions. Abstract: Education has been considered as a priority sector and a great challenge to the Bangladesh Government, with a view to transforming human potential into a productive workforce. The conventional face to face education system is not enough to cope with the need of an ever increasing population, rapid changes in human knowledge and the global context being changed. Education through open and distance learning (ODL) has been recognized as an important alternative in the country. Bangladesh Open University (BOU), established in 1992, has been mandated to improve the quality, relevance and efficiency of the education system with a view to eradicating illiteracy, developing human resources and alleviating poverty in the country. This article outlines the services provided by BOU, and explains how BOU utilizes its infrastructure and support services to deliver formal and non-formal programmes in basic and applied sciences, agriculture, technology, health, environment, education, language, teaching education, literature, population and gender issues to create awareness and promote knowledge. The impact of the programmes are reviewed and evaluated, based on feedback studies with target groups, and with particular reference to ODL in agriculture and rural development.
STRATEGIC INTERVENTION OF ODL IN DIPLOMA IN YOUTH DEVELOPMENT WORKS IN BANGLADESH

Abstract: Diploma in Youth Development Work (DYDW) imparted through distance mode which was introduced at Bangladesh Open University (BOU) in 1999 aiming at accessible and flexible learning opportunities to the young men and women involved in youth development activities and prepare the participating youth towards performing active and constructive role in the regeneration of their fellow youth to become effective partners in socio-economic development. The program feature and success and failure of the enrolled students have been discussed. Rural and urban, male and female, government and non-government, and gender issues were considered in the study for the enrolled students. Up to 2006, three cycles of the program have been completed and 25%, 27% and 16% of the students respectively of 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle could successfully complete. The dropout rate of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle were 51%, 41% and 67% respectively. The drop out rate is very high and increasing day by day. The reasons of high dropout rate might be due to language difficulty, lack of proper recommendation in high competitive job opportunities, lack of service incentives, financial support, scholarship/fellowship and recognition as cadre service by the Government. Service incentives to the diploma graduates have been suggested to reduce the attrition rate.

Abstract: For a w-hyponormal operator T acting on a separable complex Hilbert space H, we prove that: 1) the quasi-nilpotent part Ho(- λ) is equal to Ker(T- λI); 2) has Bishop’s propertyβ; 3) if σw (T)={0}, then it is a compact normal operator; 4) If T is an algebraically w-hyponormal operator, then it is polaroid and reguloid. Among other things, we prove that ifTn and Tn* are w-hyponormal, then T is normal.
Environmentally Harmful Low Density Waste Plastic Conversion into Kerosene Grade Fuel  [PDF]

Abstract: Plastics wastes from a municipal solid waste (MSW) plant have a high-energy content and are suitable for fuel generation. Thermal cracking is one of the possible ways to obtain petrochemical feedstock from polymer wastes. Municipal waste plastic of LDPE conversion to kerosene grade fuel experiments were carried out under atmospheric conditions at temperatures between 150℃ and 420℃. Low density polyethylene (LDPE) plastic waste (Code #2) was thermally depolymerized in batch process into stainless steel reactor without adding catalyst. The maximum kerosene grade fuel yield is 30%, other grade fuel 60%, light gas 6% and left over residue 4%. The composition, sulphur and Btu value of liquid products were determined by ASTM method. Produced fuel was analyzed by Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometer and FT-IR. Very high conversions from LDPE waste plastic to kerosene grade fuel (up to 35%) were obtained while using this technique. Detailed product analyses and characterization lead to a reasonable explanation of reaction pathways and mechanisms.
Studies on Bacterial Flora in a Farmed Catfish, Clarias Hybrid

Abstract: A ten months investigation was conducted to know the status of bacterial flora in the farmed hybrid catfish (Clarias hybrid) and respective pond water from the fish pond of a commercial fish farm of Bangladesh. The average total load in pond water, slime and kidney of fish varied from 2.1 103 to 4.1 106 CFU/ml of water, 5.6 103 to 4.4 109 CFU/g of slime and 1.8 101 to 2.7 104 CFU/g of kidney. Coryneforms and Flavobacterium were the dominant bacteria in the observed fish-organs and pond-water. Higher bacterial load was recorded in the months of September and October. Sensitivity of the isolated Aeromonads and Pseudomonads to various antibacterial agents was determined. Higher percentage of resistant Aeromonads and Pseudomonads were observed against oxytetracycline followed by erythromycin. On the contrary, the percentage of resistant Aeromonads and Pseudomonads was lower against oxolinic acid.
On generalized vector quasivariational-like inequality problems

Abstract: We introduce a class of generalized vector quasivariational-like inequality problems in Banach spaces. We derive some new existence results by using KKM-Fan theorem and an equivalent fixed point theorem. As an application of our results, we have obtained as special cases the existence results for vector quasi-equilibrium problems, generalized vector quasivariational inequality and vector quasi-optimization problems. The results of this paper generalize and unify the corresponding results of several authors and can be considered as a significant extension of the previously known results.
