Robust Power System Stabilizer Design Using Genetic Local Search Technique for Single Machine Connected to an Infinite Bus

Abstract: The genetic local search technique hybridizes the genetic algorithm and the local search (such as hill climbing) in order to eliminate the disadvantages in genetic algorithm. The parameters of the power system stabilizer (gain, phase lead time constant) are tuned by considering the single machine connected to infinite bus system. Here, power system stabilizer are used for damping low frequency local mode of oscillations. Eigen value analysis shows that the proposed GLSPSS based PSS have better performance compared with conventional and the Genetic Algorithm Based Power System Stabilizer (GAPSS). Integral of time multiplied absolute value of error (ITAE) is taken as the performance index of the selected system. Genetic and Evolutionary Algorithm (GEA) toolbox is used along with MATLAB/SIMULINK for simulation.

Distance Protection Settings Based Artificial Neural Network in Presence of TCSR on Electrical Transmission Line

Abstract: This research paper study the performance of distance relays setting based analytic (AM) and artificial neural network (ANN) method for a 400 kV high voltage transmission line in Eastern Algerian transmission networks at Sonelgaz Group compensated by series Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) i.e. Thyristor Controlled Series Reactor (TCSR) connected at midpoint of the electrical transmission line. The facts are used for controlling transmission voltage, power flow, reactive power, and damping of power system oscillations in high power transfer levels. This paper studies the effects of TCSR insertion on the total impedance of a transmission line protected by distance relay and the modified setting zone protection in capacitive and inductive boost mode for three zones. Two different techniques have been investigated in order to prevent circuit breaker nuisance tripping to improve the performances of the distance relay protection.
Impact of TCSC on Distance Protection Setting based Modified Particle Swarm Optimization Techniques

Abstract: This paper presents the application of the Modified Particle Swarm Optimization (MPSO) technique for optimal settings zones for MHO distance relay protect 400 kV single transmission line of Eastern Algerian transmission networks at Algerian Company of Electrical and Gas (Group Sonelgaz) compensated by series Flexible Alternative current Transmission System (FACTS) i.e. Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) connected at midpoint. The effects of TCSC insertion on the total impedance of a protected transmission line with respect to injected variable reactance value (X_(TCSC)) in capacitive and inductive boost mode depending of the firing angle (α) is considered. The modified setting zone protection for three zones (Z_(1), Z_(2) and Z_(3)) is have been investigate in order to prevent circuit breaker nuisance tripping and improve the performances of distance relay protection. In this work our aim is to compare the performance of the proposed MPSO algorithm with an analytical method (AM). The findings demonstrate the outstanding performance of the proposed MPSO in terms of computation speed, rate of convergence, and feasibility. The simulation results are compared with each other, and then the more perfect algorithm is considered.
Impact of SSSC on Measured Impedance in Single Phase to Ground Fault Condition on 220 kV Transmission Line

Abstract: This paper presents and compares the impact of SSSC on measured impedance for single phase to ground fault condition. The presence of Static Synchronous SSSC on a transmission line has a great influence on the ZRelay in distance protection. The protection of the high voltage 220 kV single circuit transmission line in eastern Algerian electrical transmission networks is affected in the case with resistance fault RF. The paper investigate the effect of Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) on the measured impedance (Relay) taking into account the distance fault point (n) and fault resistance (RF). The resultants simulation is performed in MATLAB software environment.

Abstract: This research paper presents a comparative study of the performance of distance protection for transmission line 400 kV in Algerian transmission networks at Group Sonelgaz (Algerian Company ofElectricity and Gas) compensated by two different series Flexible Alternative Current Transmission System (FACTS) i.e. GTO Controlled Series Capacitor (GCSC)and Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) connected at midpoint of an electrical transmission line.The facts are used for controlling transmission voltage, power flow and reactive power in high power transfer levels. This paper studies the effects of angle variation and controlled GCSC and TCSC insertion on the total impedance of a transmission line protected by MHO distance relay. The modified setting zone protection (resistance and reactance) in capacitive and inductive boost mode for three forward zones and one reverse zone are investigated in order to improve the performances of distance protection. The simulationresults are performed in MATLAB software.
Impact of Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor Insertion on Short-Circuit Calculation in Presence Phase to Earth Fault

Abstract: This research paper presents a study on phase to earth fault short-circuit calculation with fault resistance on a single transmission line 400 kV in eastern Algerian transmission networks at Algerian Company of Electricity and Gas (Sonelgaz Group) compensated by series Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) i.e. Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) installed in midline. The facts are used for controlling transmission voltage, power flow, reactive power, and damping of power system oscillations at high power transfer levels. The direct impacts of TCSC insertion on the total impedance, active power and reactive power a electrical transmission line and also parameters of short-circuit : symmetrical currents, line currents, symmetrical voltages and line voltages are carried out. More the effects of injected voltage by TCSC for three case studies are presented.
CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS FROM ALGERIAN FOENICULUM VULGARE AERIAL PARTS AND EVALUATION OF ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY

Abstract: Phytochemical study of the aerial parts of Foeniculum vulgare led to the isolation of seven compounds isolated for the first time from this species. After isolation and purification, these metabolites were characterized on the basis of spectroscopic analyses using 1D and 2D NMR as well as mass spectrometry. Furthermore, antimicrobial activity of the crude extract was evaluated using agar diffusion method. The antimicrobial test results showed that the crude extract had a great potential as antimicrobial activity against all 9 microorganisms especially fungal strains.
Using Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) for Harmonic Mitigation in Small Wind Turbines Generator

Abstract: Small wind turbines generators (SWTG) often use a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMGS) and a bridge rectifier for battery charging. With this simple load scheme, the wind turbine does not operate in its maximum electrical power in all operating conditions and voltage and current harmonics flows in permanent magnet synchronous generator stator, increasing heating and electrical losses. In this research, it is proposed a system for a small wind turbines generators with two main characteristics: maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and power factor correction (PFC) of permanent magnet synchronous generator. Proposed system is simulated in Psim. software, with a dynamic small wind turbines generators model. A bench test, which simulates the behavior of a small wind turbines generators, is developed for testing the proposed system in laboratory. Results show that proposed system increase power generated by permanent magnet synchronous generator and at the same time decreases harmonic content of voltage and current on the stator.
