Erythemal irradiance at the Magellan's region and Antarctic ozone hole 1999-2005
CASICCIA, C;ZAMORANO, F;HERNáNDEZ, A;
Atmósfera , 2008,
Abstract: the most austral zone of the southern cone of south america, which is sometimes under the influence of the antarctic ozone hole (aoh), occasionally receives enhanced levels of ultraviolet b radiation (uv-b: 280-320 nm). ultraviolet erythemal irradiance measurements began in 1999 by the university of magallanes in punta arenas (lat. 53.0° s; lon. 70.9° w), chile, with the installation of four instruments in different locations in the magallanes region, which is the southernmost region in chile and the nearest to the antarctic continent. data from solar light instruments, the brewer spectrophotometer (serial 180) and the total ozone mapping spectrometer (toms) from 1999 to 2005 for the magellan's region is presented in this paper. these data show a significant number of days in 2004 with low ozone concentrations, specifying that recovery of the ozone column at these latitudes is still uncertain. data of erythemal measurements from the stations that are part of the magallanes network were analyzed, with extra attention given to the spring-summer period when the activity of the aoh is more intense. on several occasions important decreases down to 20-53% in the total ozone column were observed. along with these decreases, increased levels of uv-b radiation were observed. when compared to normal daily concentration values of the total ozone, the days with increased uv-b levels reached values between 50 and 200% above normal at the different stations.

Abstract: cat-scratch disease (csd) has been recognized with increasing frequency in our country. although csd is a benign and self-limited disorder, in 5-25% of cases it can present with systemic complications including, among others, visceral, skin and bone manifestations. because of the unusual bone involvement reported in the literature, we regard it interesting to describe a medical case of vertebral osteomyelitis associated to csd and to discuss the eventual benefit of antimicrobial therapy on this disease.

Symmetry, Integrability and Geometry : Methods and Applications , 2013,
Abstract: The use of spectral methods to study birth-and-death processes was pioneered by S. Karlin and J. McGregor. Their expression for the transition probabilities was made explicit by them in a few cases. Here we complete their analysis and indicate a few applications of their very powerful method.

Abstract: the hotdog sandwich is one of the most popular fast food consumed in santiago, chile, which generally is consumed together with french fries. four types of hotdog sandwich plus french fries (food pack) were analyzed to determine the proximate composition and fatty acid profile. two hundred and our consumers were interviewed using a structured questionnaire based on nine questions related to which ingredients and fast food chains they preferred. samples were collected from the most popular fast food chains choosing five restaurants randomly. for proximate composition and fatty acids profile determinations, each analyzed sample was composed of five food pack units and the analyses were carried out in duplicate. for the hotdog pack analyzed, lipids and protein contents presented significant differences (p<0.05) with values ranging from 13 to 16 g/100g and 5 to 7 g/100g, respectively. the caloric contribution of these food packs ranged from 220 to 252 kcal. no significant differences were observed in the fatty acid profile, with pufa/sfa and c18:2/c18:3 ratios in the samples being near one and ten, respectively. these products are extremely high in fat since they cover more than 50% of the fat daily requirements
On the Application of the numerical Laplace transform for accurate electromagnetic transient analysis
Gómez Zamorano, P;Uribe Campos, F.A.;
Revista mexicana de física , 2007,
Abstract: this work presents an overview of a methodology based on the numerical laplace transform (nlt) and applied to the analysis of electromagnetic transient phenomena in power systems. the basic development of the method is described, with its main qualitative advantages as compared to conventional time domain methods, such as the method of characteristics and professional programs for transient simulation such as emtdc and atp/emtp. current practices for reducing errors derived from the truncation and discretization of the analytical equations are also discussed. finally, some important results obtained recently with this tool are shown. comparisons with time domain methods reveal a high accuracy of the numerical laplace transform in several studies.

Abstract: unreduced and reduced in hydrogen flow copper exchanged synthetic erionite, with a sio2/al2o3 molar ratio of 7.7, have been characterized by x-ray diffraction (xrd), uv-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (drs), and electron spin resonance spectroscopy (esr). the xrd patterns show that the reduction process does not change the zeolite structure, besides the reduced form at 450° c present diffraction lines assigned to copper metallic particles. the drs measurements have detected isolated cu2+ ions as well as plasma resonance peak of copper metallic nanoparticles. the esr simulation analysis of the spectra measured at 20°c indicates the presence of two different cu2+ ions sites localized in the erionite matrix. up to 450° c only one type of sites take place in the reduction process, participating in cu metal clusters and cu metal nanoparticles formation, keeping the cu2+ ions of the second site intact.
