Brassinosteroids and Plant Responses to Heavy Metal Stress. An Overview  [PDF]
Miriam Nú?ez Vázquez,Yanelis Reyes Guerrero,Lisbel Martínez González,Walfredo Torres de la Noval
Open Journal of Metal (OJMetal) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojmetal.2013.32a1005
Abstract: Soil contamination with heavy metals has become a world-wide problem, leading to the loss in agricultural productivity. Plants have a remarkable ability to take up and accumulate heavy metals from their external environment and it is well known that high levels of heavy metals affect different physiological and metabolic processes. Brassinosteroids are considered as the sixth class of plant hormones and they are essential for plant growth and development. These compounds are able of inducing abiotic stress tolerance in plants. In this paper, information about brassinosteroids and plant responses to heavy metal stress is reviewed.

Domínguez Hernández,Roberto; González Pérez,Miriam;
Educaci?3n M??dica Superior , 2006,
Abstract: the present curriculum of medical career is already 20 years-old, so this provides enough reasons for the analysis of its relevance. if the significant changes in higher education in general and medical education in particular are added together with the deep transformations occurring in the national healthcare system, particularly in primary care that is the main work setting of the graduate, then the analysis turns into an urgent need to be met. for these reasons, two main research objectives were set: the analysis of the present curriculum of medical career to identify its weaknesses, and the proposal of a scientifically founded system of principles for curricular renewal. deficiencies of the current curriculum were studied through consultation to experts, and then a system of principles for curricular renewal was enunciated
Soto Góngora,Sergio; Texis González,Miriam Guadalupe;
Revista Cubana de Estomatolog?-a , 2005,
Abstract: the use of bone grafts as an alternative to reconstruct osteal congenital or caused defects, such as traumatisms, oncological and infectious sequelae, is aimed at restoring the anatomical and functional integrity of an altered structure. during decades, investigators have tried to find in grafts certain characteristics that response to each of the reconstruction needs. this fact has led to the study and comparison of the benefits of some osteal structures that are potential donors and may increase the chances of success and considerably reduce the possible risks and complications during the graft taking. likewise, diverse implantation materials have been studied, but they do not have the natural capacity to induce the osteal regeneration process, which makes them inert biocompatible "filling" materials that do not substitute the characteristics of the grafts, but they can improve the results if they are used together. the present paper recommends the use of bone grafts as a viable, effective and current alternative as regards reconstruction.
DETECCIóN DE RESIDUOS ANTIMICROBIANOS EN TEJIDOS COMESTIBLES Y TETRACICLINA EN HUESO DE CERDO
Medina,Miriam Susana; González,Delia Guillermina; Ramírez,A;
Revista de Salud Animal , 2008,
Abstract: the presence of antimicrobial residues in tissues and tetracyclines in bones of pigs was researched in the slaughter house of the metropolitan zone of guadalajara, mexico. the study was organized in three stages using two different methods. the first stage researched the frequency of tetracyclines in pigs. from 277 pig carcasses tested, the 47% was positive to tetracyclines. in the second stage, the fluorescence visual detection in samples of femur, humerus and rib of pigs was conducted. from 172 bone samples, the 81% was positive. in the third stage, the presence of antimicrobial residues in tissues was researched using the three- plate microbiological method. from 62 pigs analyzed, the 50% was positive, the 27,4% negative and the 22,6% was uncertain. kidney, muscle and liver samples were 41,9%, 54.8% and 66,1% positive respectively. the incidence of antimicrobials in contaminated animals detected in this study showed evidences that slaughter is commonly carried out in animals containing antimicrobial residues at the guadalajara's slaughter house.
