Abstract: the aim of this work was to evaluate the dynamics of microcutting and minicutting techniques during rooting process, by monitoring root emergence and development in microcuttings and minicuttings of four eucalyptus grandis clones. microcuttings were obtained from in vitro rejuvenated plant-derived sprouts, whereas minicuttings from rooted sprouts derived from plants propagated through conventional cutting technique. the results suggest the greater rooting ability of the microcuttings as compared to the minicuttings, evidenced by the number of roots/cuttings, total root/cutting length, largest root/cutting length, mean length of roots/cutting and dry weight of roots.

Abstract: O presente estudo teve por objetivo avaliar a dinamica de enraizamento de microestacas e miniestacas, mediante o acompanhamento da emiss o e do desenvolvimento de raízes de quatro clones de Eucalyptus grandis. Foram utilizadas microestacas provenientes de brota es coletadas em plantas rejuvenescidas por micropropaga o e miniestacas oriundas de brota es coletadas de miniestacas enraizadas originadas de mudas propagadas pelo processo de estaquia convencional. Os resultados indicaram a maior habilidade de enraizamento das microestacas em rela o às miniestacas, evidenciada através do número de raízes/estaca, comprimento total de raiz/estaca, comprimento da maior raiz/estaca, comprimento médio de raízes/estaca e peso de matéria seca de raízes.

Abstract: genetic parameters estimated through statistical-genetic designs considering population and progeny effects are lacking for the pequi tree (caryocar brasiliense camb.). the aim of this study was to estimate genetic parameters and evaluate the efficiency of selection based on growth traits in the early stages. the experiment was carried out in carbonita, minas gerais, brazil, on january of 2005, using a randomized block design with 31 progenies, six replications and five plants per plot. from 2005 to 2008 the following traits were evaluated: plant height (in 2005; 2006; 2007 and 2008), stem diameter at ground level (in 2006; 2007; 2008) and crown diameter (in 2008). estimates for narrow-sense heritability at the individual level varied from 0.15 to 0.50. the genetic and phenotypic correlations between characteristics in the different years were positive and generally highly significant. estimates of the selection efficiency, obtained using the hamblin and zimmermann expression, ranged from medium to high for all traits. it was concluded that under the premise of a significant correlation between these traits and fruit production, selection for fruit production based on growth traits could be started at an early stage.

Abstract: four eucalyptus grandis clones were used to evaluate the effect of iba application (0, 1000, 2000 and 4000 mg/l) on the survival, rooting and vigor of microcuttings and minicuttings. regarding greenhouse exit survival and shade house exit rooting and survival at 50 days of age microcuttings and minicuttings, diverse clone responses were observed in relation to iba dosages. however, for all the tested clones no growth regulator effect was observed on height and root collar diameter for both microcutting and minicutting techniques. increased rooting indexes and survival of the minicutting were observed in the dosages of 1000 and 2000 mg/l iba in most of the clones. in general, no effect was observed on rooting and survival of the microcuttings; however similar or higher values to those obtained by minicutting technique were observed suggesting greater microcutting vigor, as compared to the minicutting.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of clonal gardens in the microcutting and minicutting techniques of four eucalyptus grandis clones regarding the survival, vigor and productive capacity of the microstumps and ministumps in successive collections of microcuttings and minicuttings. the microstumps were obtained from rejuvenated tissue explants through subculture in vitro, and the ministumps by minicuttings derived from conventional rooted cuttings. the ministumps and microstumps of e. grandis exhibited similar performance, i.e., high survival rate, vigor and productive capacity of vegetative propagation material.

Abstract: the objective of this paper was to evaluate the effect of dicamba and picloram on the induction of somatic embryogenesis in mature zygotic embryos, cotyledons and hypocotyls of eucalyptus grandis. callus induction was obtained in ms culture medium with dicamba (0.25; 0.5; 1.0 and 2.0 mg l-1) or picloram (0.5; 1.5; 5.0 and 10.0 mg l-1). treatments of cotyledonary explants with dicamba (0.5 mg l-1) or picloram (5.0 and 10.0 mg l-1) resulted in structures similar to somatic embryos, which appeared in different development stages. the histological analysis confirmed the presence of independent structures with an independent vascular system, suggesting that the structures are somatic embryos.
Eucalyptus pellita as a source of resistance to rust, ceratocystis wilt and leaf blight

Abstract: Rust (Puccinia psidii), ceratocystis wilt (Ceratocystis fimbriata) and cylindrocladium leaf blight (Cylindrocladium pteridis) are important diseases of eucalyptus. Planting of resistant genotypes is the most suitable control strategy of forest diseases under field condition. Resistance level of 23 Eucalyptus pellita clones was evaluated by artificial inoculations. Among the inoculated clones, 12 were resistant to rust, 16 to ceratocystis wilt and 12 to cylindrocladium leaf blight, and three of them were resistant to all three diseases. The high intra-specific variability found in this study demonstrates the importance of E. pellita as a disease resistance source to be employed for introgression of novel resistance genes in eucalyptus genetic breeding programs.
Eficiência das minicepas e microcepas na produ o de propágulos de clones de Eucalyptus grandis

Abstract: No presente estudo objetivou-se avaliar a eficiência dos jardins clonais nas técnicas de microestaquia e miniestaquia de quatro clones de Eucalyptus grandis, quanto a sobrevivência, vigor e capacidade produtiva das microcepas e minicepas em coletas sucessivas de microestacas e miniestacas. As microcepas utilizadas foram oriundas de mudas rejuvenescidas por micropropaga o, mediante subcultivos in vitro, e as minicepas, de miniestacas oriundas de plantas propagadas pelo método da estaquia convencional (macroestaquia). As minicepas e as microcepas apresentaram desempenho similar, tendo sido observado, para ambas, elevada taxa de sobrevivência, vigor e capacidade produtiva de material para propaga o vegetativa.
Efeito do AIB no enraizamento de miniestacas e microestacas de clones de Eucalyptus grandis W. Hill ex Maiden

Abstract: O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar o efeito da aplica o do regulador de crescimento AIB (0, 1.000, 2.000 e 4.000 mg/l) na sobrevivência, no enraizamento e no vigor das microestacas e miniestacas de quatro clones de Eucalyptus grandis. Com rela o às características de sobrevivência na saída da casa de vegeta o, ao enraizamento na saída da casa de sombra e à sobrevivência das mudas aos 50 dias de idade, observou-se diversidade de resposta dos clones em rela o às dosagens do AIB. Entretanto n o foi verificado efeito do AIB nas características altura e diametro do colo, tanto na microestaquia como na miniestaquia, dos quatro clones. Constatou-se aumento nos índices de enraizamento e de sobrevivência das miniestacas nas dosagens de 1.000 e 2.000 mg/l, na maioria dos clones. N o foi observado efeito no enraizamento e na sobrevivência das microestacas, entretanto ocorreram valores iguais ou superiores aos obtidos na miniestaquia, o que indica maior vigor das microestacas em rela o às miniestacas.
Survival and growth of eucalypts clones seedlings in response to organic fertilizer application

Abstract: This work aimed to evaluate the effect of Fert-Bokashi on survival and seedlings growth of two Eucalyptus urophylla clones propagated by minicutting technique. The experiment was conducted over a period of 28 days using a randomized block design and three replicates in an 6 x 2 factorial arrangement, with six Fert-Bokashi concentrations (0.0%, 0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5%, 0.7% and 0.9%) and two clones. Seedlings survival, height growth and shoot, root and total dry matter were evaluated. Experimental results demonstrated no significant effect of Fert- Bokashi on survival and seedlings growth of two Eucalyptus urophylla clones.
